I got a vibe that he is a bit nervous on camera, and he reacts to that situation by laughing. Nothing bad about that! Of course I might be wrong. He seems like an intellingent and a good man!
THIS ! Tested needs more of THIS ! The problem solving and attention to detail that went into the design and creation of these little robots is inspiring. Thank you for having Alonso on and thank you for doing such an in depth exploration into the creation of his "pets". If possible an follow up episode about the programming that went into the bots would also be very informative.
I'd love to see an animated short featuring these little guys. No words. Everything completely communicated through the movement of these adorable personalities.
So these robots are cool, adorable and super creative, plus the custom work he put into teaching himself how to make them is seriously impressive. I already had major respect for him and then the bombshell at the end, "Oh by the way I built one that can jump over a human." !!!!
What Alonso talks about has always been something I've obsessed over in movies. I love non-verbal characters; Stitch, Toothless, R2, BB8... they have these moments that transcend verbal communication in every way and I really appreciate the awareness and attentiveness he's brought to that.
Actually it would be better with something a bit more advanced like the one used in china that people use as a friendship AI, and you can hold a conversation with it. But im sure those AI's are on the way very soon.
Sean is killing it with his videos at the moment. These robots are just this guys hobby, like WOW he is amazingly good my mind is blown away by the amount of time he would have spent to perfect the various parts to get them so perfect. I expect he has access to a lot of creative types at his job, but it's still a lot of work to do.
Alonso, you are simply awesome. Just having no ideas about how complicated a project could be, but to know what you want, is an amazing feature. please keep us updated on these cute Bots @Tested
So darn awesome. Love these robots. Great example of what you can make if you have a vision and the drive to research and learn. Can't wait to see what he makes next!
I wonder if he has ever seen Cosmo? He is one of the best sound communicating robots out there, he is also created by some guys who use to work at pixar, his personality is second to none! His robots are great as well! keep up the good work.
wow! its amazing! I really love how the blinking part was done with an OLED display and not with complex mechanisms! Really smart! Also the joystick mechanism converted to an ultra cute 3D printed robot..! It's just amazing!
I love how much detail you guys went into on this thing. While Adam and Norm often find neat new props or pieces they are very cool and it's great to hear discussion about the various techniques used in it's making, but discussing the programs used for the design (and obviously having a host as knowledgeable as Sean) and the other avenues the conversation took really takes this to another level of nerd-ery and shows the level of dedication to technology itself, instead of being a pop-nerd outlet. Great stuff.
Holy crow, I did a double take at the start of the video. They look like you animated them into the video straight out of a pixar movie! I can't believe the translation of that style and personality into the real world, that's incredible.
These are so good!!! I'd love to see a bottom eyelid added for more emotion! Like, if it's looking at you and then you look at it, it raises its lower lid. That'd be great. Get on that mass production!
i know Im asking the wrong place but does someone know a trick to get back into an Instagram account? I stupidly forgot the login password. I love any assistance you can offer me.
Those robots are so amazing and so well designed ! This is a beautiful work and it's still very pleasant to see a passionate person talk about his fascinating creations :D
Wouldn't the next iteration with expressive eyebrows be amazing? Just like the blinking action, I think eyebrows would add so much personality. These are so friggen cool!
Ok... I would totally buy one of these. I know a lot of other people have said this, but I'd buy one if all it did was look around, blink, and make the occasional "boop" noise. Just another example of not needing a lot of detail to give something a lot of personality. And there's no possibility for uncanny valley, so that's a win!
So the self-made springs are connected in series to the servo motors? That leads to really interesting dynamics! And all tuned by hand, I am impressed.
He totally needs to programs some pupils onto the blinking robot so you can see what its looking at, or programs them to change colors depending of how its feeling (like red for mad, blue for sad, etc) But he should totally do a Kickstarter or something and sell some of these.
Right now i am doing a lot of stuff with arduino's in school and i just get so much inspiration from this chanal! Right now for example i am building a self nevagating self rolling ball inspired by the bb8 stuff i saw on this chanal too and man this video make my hands itch so i already know what i will do for my next project :D keep these video's up i love them!!!
never seen a man this genuinly happy. Amazing to see and his robots are cool as heck :)
That's the happiness that money can't buy, close, but that's just genuine and pure joy right there :)
He's sooo precious.
LAKster
right? dude was all smiles. So happy that...... a skeptic might assume he was on drugs. However, I'm not that skeptic for once.
I got a vibe that he is a bit nervous on camera, and he reacts to that situation by laughing. Nothing bad about that! Of course I might be wrong. He seems like an intellingent and a good man!
LAKster thats a true disney cast member for ya
Alonso is the embodiment of Pixar in a person
I went to High School with Alonso, very happy to see him doing well. Always was a bright and positive artist!
Studio271 good to see people like that in this world
They are just sooooo cute
Oh my god these are absolutely adorable
The blinking robo is so cute!!!
I'd put on my desk, so he would be happy every time I'm back. Amazing!
That is the most smiling guy I've ever seen
If I had a job like that that allowed me near limitless creative freedom, I'd smile so much my face would probably stick that way.
This has to be the happiest man on earth BRING MORE OF THIS GUY STUFF PLEASE
Bring back Alonso! He's great on camera.. You rarely see anyone that takes so much joy from a hobby. Amazing robots too.. Creative and fun.
I'd love to see an animated short featuring these little guys. No words. Everything completely communicated through the movement of these adorable personalities.
And THAT'S why he works at Pixar. Absolutely amazing!!
So these robots are cool, adorable and super creative, plus the custom work he put into teaching himself how to make them is seriously impressive. I already had major respect for him and then the bombshell at the end, "Oh by the way I built one that can jump over a human." !!!!
We need a kickstarter for these! We all need a family of our own!
This guy is awesome!
What Alonso talks about has always been something I've obsessed over in movies. I love non-verbal characters; Stitch, Toothless, R2, BB8... they have these moments that transcend verbal communication in every way and I really appreciate the awareness and attentiveness he's brought to that.
I think this would be perfect with the Google Assistant built into it
Jared Long I was thinking Alexa support would be awesome.
Micro_Squid I personally prefer Google Assistant. I have no problem with Alexa, I just think any Assistant AI would be neat on this.
Yeah but it goes against the idea behind these robots.
Jared Long yeah men! Take my money!!
Actually it would be better with something a bit more advanced like the one used in china that people use as a friendship AI, and you can hold a conversation with it. But im sure those AI's are on the way very soon.
He really loves his robots. Brilliant.
Loved that interview. Alonso's joy shows in his creations and Sean's enthusiasm just complemented it. What a nice gleeful moment.
This is so amazing, seeing the guy genuinly happy and enjoying talking about his robots so much and interacting with them.
This is the best tested video ever. More of these two. They worked well together. Alonso makes me smile in fascination
Alonso, you are simply awesome. Just having no ideas about how complicated a project could be, but to know what you want, is an amazing feature. please keep us updated on these cute Bots @Tested
It's awesome how a guy that is expert in animations made a robot with no experience. Big like!
What did you do Alonso?! These are the ultimate weapon of cuteness.. The world can't be what once was.
Make Myra an actual product and I'll buy it as soon it's available, I'm sure it won't be just me ;)
I will buy it too
👍
It's crazy how something as simple as a blink can bring so much life to an object
Alonso is the most refreshingly enthusiastic person ever! great video
the love and happiness that come out of this man and his creations...wow....
This is so cool and the guy coming to talk about them has such passion it is insane! This is great. Next stop a real life big hero 6.
Damn! his toys looks as happy as him.
When he pointed at Mira and did the "Bang" and she reacted I just had this big happy grin on my face. That's so adorable!
I think these robots are Canadian
im not your buddy guy beep boop
im not your guy buddy boop beep
Nick Saunders im not your buddy friend bedebedebede
Canadians who've never seen South Park are reading this like "what are talking aboot, pal?".
Tancho K. don't pick the baby lol it looks like Ike
Alonso seems like a super sweet human being, making super sweet bots. This was great, plus no Norm!
Sean is probably your best interviewer cuz he knows what he is talking about
So darn awesome.
Bravo Alonso! Your joy and passion come through loud & clear here. So great to see you've found your calling very early in life. Keep it up!
Alonso seems really pleasant and his robots are adorable.
this is definitely one of my favorite tested videos!
Absolutely lovable. Amazing and inspiring how much effort he spent designing
HNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNGGGGGGGGG!!!!
did the official rpi channel just bust a nut in the comments?
Well, he used a Pi as the computer.
I managed to turn my HNNNNNGGG into actual words: www.raspberrypi.org/blog/mira-robot-alonso-martinez/
Me alucinan tus robots. Es posible hacerlos o se compran en algún sitio? Gracias
Agreed Raspberri Pi, too cute for words
Alonso and his robots are incredibly endearing. More please!
you have no idea how i am so amazed by this and i am a robotics student tho
Just another example why I love Tested.
Great video! Alonso's enthusiasm is infectious.
Very cool, great looking molds and castings! Thanks for posting!
The servos on the bouncing squishy bot are *Turnigy S3066-HV*.
24:55 the long-named wireless chip he can't quite remember, is likely the *NRF24L01*
Holy crow, I did a double take at the start of the video. They look like you animated them into the video straight out of a pixar movie! I can't believe the translation of that style and personality into the real world, that's incredible.
i love how Alonso himself looks like a Pixar animated character - super nice dude with super rad robots. this was excellent
Ahhh those lil baby bots are so cute! And the creator is so pleased with them, it's awesome!
These are so good!!!
I'd love to see a bottom eyelid added for more emotion! Like, if it's looking at you and then you look at it, it raises its lower lid. That'd be great. Get on that mass production!
what about the mushroom bot and the smallest guy???
Thats what im saying 😯😯
pretty sure the tiny one was just a model, not sure about the mushroom though.
George Yankovic yeah
OMG. that jumping robot is hilarious! I want one!
I love these!
i know Im asking the wrong place but does someone know a trick to get back into an Instagram account?
I stupidly forgot the login password. I love any assistance you can offer me.
@Albert Jesiah Instablaster :)
This Alonso is a happy dude, no question about it.
Those robots are so amazing and so well designed ! This is a beautiful work and it's still very pleasant to see a passionate person talk about his fascinating creations :D
his passion oozes when he explains :)
and the robot looks exactly like him!!
Wow he's so happy!
He shows so much Emotion on his face! 0.0
That joystick he reverse engineered was awesome. Also cool project and presentation.
This guy Alonso is really genius,,and see how happy he is .....
what a lovely guy. Love his work.
What a delight! Well done!
Alonso has some really nice robots. He's got a great skillset.
You should make one that mimics laughter when it hears it as its only way of communicating.
This was one of the best tested videos i have seen in a long time! Those robots are awesome, really liked em!
Did u know Alonso Martinez is my computer teachers brother?
These are amazing! So cool. And I love how he just kept trying things.
I met this guy at a conference in Santa Clara once! He's pretty nice and loved showing off his robots there.
Wouldn't the next iteration with expressive eyebrows be amazing? Just like the blinking action, I think eyebrows would add so much personality. These are so friggen cool!
That was awesome lads!
These robots are really incredible, great video.
These shall lead the most adorable robot uprising imaginable! I, for one, welcome our new marshmallow overlords! XD
Amazing work! That guy should take it to the market! Great animation!
Wow this guy is brilliant. I love how he uses the tools hes familiar with.
Yes! More of this kind of stuff, please!
Ok... I would totally buy one of these. I know a lot of other people have said this, but I'd buy one if all it did was look around, blink, and make the occasional "boop" noise. Just another example of not needing a lot of detail to give something a lot of personality. And there's no possibility for uncanny valley, so that's a win!
Of course it's someone from Pixar who makes something that looks so simple have so much personality. OMG I want one!!!
Migz Ventanilla which one the guy or the robot?😂😂
I think a kickstarter would be really successful
I would back this, these things are adorable!
Alonso is every bit as adorable as his robots.
So the self-made springs are connected in series to the servo motors? That leads to really interesting dynamics! And all tuned by hand, I am impressed.
Tested needs to partner with this man.
Is this on github anywhere? Would love to build one myself as a gift.
The eye implementation is awesome!
I am shocked the bouncy robot doesn't have a Pixar Lamp version....
Alonso: *_"Master Toy Maker."_*
Thing is i believe he makes them mostly with LOVE.
wow! very impressed! this guy is really talented. electronics and hardware-wise. 👍
I was smiling the whole time while watching this video
This guy is a genius! I want to buy each one of these!
That fella seems so happy and upbeat and excited. I wish i could be like that...no wonder pixar never hired me.
Everything about this video made my day. What a hero :D
Will there be any posting on thingiverse and instructions?
Wish he shared these robot plans I wanna make the bouncing one with the wii remote
Is he new to tested? I like him, nice to see another build man
I'd love to see more of this guy on tested!
He totally needs to programs some pupils onto the blinking robot so you can see what its looking at, or programs them to change colors depending of how its feeling (like red for mad, blue for sad, etc)
But he should totally do a Kickstarter or something and sell some of these.
This guy is legendary.
