Great list, and you have Ys 3: Oath in Felghana there, YESSS!! It’s my favorite Ys game, and you’re not kidding about the EXCELLENT sound track. Sooo good!
I recently tried Chrono Trigger and it was just fine. I get that it was probably a 10/10 when it released, but people putting it on the "Best RPG/JRPG games of all time" lists made me going in with expectations and none were met
@@Shinky One of the best feature for that game is the Dragon Gene. I love ability to mix em and get whacky stuff. And hilariously enough, I don't remember anyone using that mechanic ever since it was released, weird.
I haven’t played Lufia 2 myself (I plan to this year) and FF6 I feel would be 10/10 but it takes a major dive in the world of ruin, though I know I’m alone with that opinion
@@Shinky I dont see why. Looking for your friends is really cool. It develops the story of most of them as well as their personalities. Not to mention that the fact that the world of ruin is even a thing, and the events that lead to it are quite a thing. But yeah I think you'll enjoy Lufia 2.
@benjamindeh873 it’s the fact that the ongoing plot goes to a standstill, and it focuses solely on character development. I would have preferred that character development be woven into the overall story. It’s not bad, it’s just an aspect I wasn’t a huge fan of. I’m well aware that I’m alone in that regard.
Amazing list as I would also put these as 10/10! I still need to play through the Lunar games (maybe skip Dragon Song haha). Other JRPGs for me are FF6, FFX, and FF7 Remake/Rebirth, Xenoblade 3, many Zelda's, and Jade Cocoon to name a small few
@@Shinky im so glad to hear 3 is on your list it was one of the only games i came here hoping to hear. also a great list for recommendations tbh i gotta go back and play more of star ocean 2
I love the original Lunar 1 and 2 on the Sega CD. The first game is quite a bit different than the Saturn/PS1 remake. Not storywise, just with the gameplay and world-building. You get an extensive list of magic spells to learn (except for Kyle, who just gets a handful of sword arts). But Alex doesn't start with anything at all. When you meet up with Nash the first time, you really feel how absolutely powerful magic is. And how it really puts magic users in a league of their own. (Which just makes Kyle even more impressive, since he only gets sword skills but can still smackdown with the best of them).
Here's my top ten in no particular order Final Fantasy VI Final Fantasy IX Xenosaga Episode 1 Dragon Quest XI Chrono Trigger Lost Odyssey Suikoden II Tales of Xillia Ys VIII Trails of Cold Steel III
Great JRPGs one and all! Opinions being subjective non-withstanding, these titles deserve to be played at least once for the experience of nothing else. What better way to know if one likes it or not. 😋
Infinite Undiscovery is something I really enjoy but…it’s more because it’s so jank that I like it. And honestly I haven’t played White Knight Chronicles
ARPGs and JRPGs are pretty distinct genres. ALttP is a 10/10 game for sure but it has no place on a JRPG list. Same with Yakuza. If we are being this loose with it why not include Dark Souls? No FF 3, 4, 5, 7, or 10 either... you sure made some choices here.
I tried to limit it to one game per series. I’ll give you link to the past, but the Yakuza games are so heavy with action JRPG elements I’d feel it’s just a more combat centric action RPG
@@Shinky Well these things definitely aren't set in stone with their definitions, but to me a JRPG has menu-based combat. If character movement and action timing (not including ATB gauges) are performed by the player then it just seems out of scope of the JRPG category. Your list seems to be RPG's that are made in Japan which... I guess you wouldn't be wrong to call those JRPG's either lol.
Honestly it’s not one of my favorites, of course I haven’t played it in ages. I recall not being a huge fan of the large cast but that soundtrack was peak!
Great video as always! I agree with your list absolutely. I don't have anything to add to it since my favorite series tend to be fun, but definitely are very much not 10/10 games. I'm just a degen. Looking at you Hyperdimension Neptunia. LOL
Neptunia does what it sets out for very well…but honestly it’s just average in the grand scope of RPGs. Though hey, props on making games 20 years later with the same assets you started out with
@@Shinky To each their own of course but for me KH3 was absolute dog shit. KH2 though is peak for sure but I don't know if I'd go as far as to call it a masterpiece.
I agree with most except your “fact”. What is a “fact” is that you are completely wrong. Ocarina of Time is the best Zelda. I love A Link to the Past too but the fact is that Ocarina of Time is the best lol
@@Shinky I personally didn't enjoy that much A Link to the Past. While I loved the beginning, it started feeling a little, I don't know how to explain, just didn't feel it. That's the best way to explain I suppose. Still an amazing game, I'm glad people enjoyed it more than me.
@Shinky love your videos, but if your going off of facts Metacritic and IGN have link to the last at a 95% where OoT is at 99%, I’m a snes guy myself, so obviously Metacritic is wrong, but those are the facts.

Oath in Felghana is my favorite Ys title as well! I love it so so much
Man of culture to mention Ys! The true fans know!
It’s up there as one of my favorite series =)
Lots of awesome games on this list! Yay for Star Ocean: The Second Story!!!
Star Ocean Second Story is fantastic in every single aspect! One of my favourites of all time
The Trails series, especially Trails through Azure is definitely a 10/10.
Oh absolutely. Trails through Azure is up there as one of the best games of all time
Lol all trails game are garbage and boring , ugly graphics and the story is so cringe and long
@@vstampde8066 now now, be nice. There’s no need to argue over opinions
Ima say it, i think kh1 is better than kh2, but i can respect the fact that kh is actually recognized and honestly imo kh1, 2, and 3 are all 10/10s
Story of KH1 is absolutely better, it was before it started to get incredibly confusing.
@@Shinky i also prefer the more platformer type of qorld designs but i understand the world design truly js comes down to personal preference
@snakeking5825 totally valid points. The worlds in KH1 were more fun to traverse for sure

To each their own, as far as I’m concerned it does everything right
Both Breath of Fire 3 and 4 for me are the best. Shame, CAPCOM refuses to revive this franchise.
I was gonna put BoF3 on the list, it’s one of my favourites.

my top 10 jrpg 10/10
1-dragon quest 8 (3ds version, better by far from ps2 version)
2- xenoblad chronicols 1
3- valkery profile 2
4- wild armes 2
5- finalfantesy 9
6- shinmegami tensei 5 vengence
7- persona 5 royale
8- alundra 1
9- baten kaitos origins
10- secret of mana snes

I would definitely recommend it. Though it could be nostalgia coloring my perception of these older titles.
Good list. Missing Lufia 2, Legend of Legaia and Skies of Arcadia
Okay to be fair, when I made this list I hadn’t played Lufia 2 yet. And I still haven’t played Legaia or finished Arcadia.
A Link to the Past, woohoo! For me it's definitely Xenoblade Definitive Edition, that game is a god damn masterpiece ❤ Great list, Shinky!
One of these days I’ll play Xenoblade 3…

Oh yeah Chrono Trigger/KH2/Yakuza 0/Star Ocean 2 is absolutely a 10/10!

Disagree about the KH2 worlds. They felt empty and basically followed the movie storylines whereas KH felt like the worlds were alive.

Glad to see dragon quest on here I still need to play the first grandia loved the second
It was honestly very hard to pick what dragon quest I wanted on this list. Since so many of them are 10/10.
