I'm a hunter from Germany and I'm very thankful how precice and respectful your presentation of our way of hunting and of our traditions in this video was. The stag you were able to shoot is one of the biggest german stags I've ever seen. Congratulations and a big Waidmannsheil to you, Pedro. You're welcome to come back at any time ;-)
Waidmannsheil.
Pedro, that is truly a Krona Hirsch ! Wiedmans Heill !! * Jager Sprache is yet again another language with 10,000 words in its vocabulary. I served in Berlin, GE (6-502 Infantry) 1985-88. Germany was still an occupied country and the Allies were granted 20% of the capitol game in a drawing by lottery. 1985, my first year, was going to school and passing the prufung, the second year was a Chamois in Bavaria, but the third year I won the lottery for a Red Stag in the state forest of Hanover north of Frankfurt. I hunted five days and on the last morning saw a lesser stag with does .....and then a 10 yr old Krona Hirsch came down out of the dark timber and they fought. It was like a movie. This was on a hill side across the valley from where I was and before range finders. We ran down hill for a hundred meters and the Forestman (guide) said I had to attempt the shot from where we were....no way to get closer.....this was before range finders. We estimated 330 meters. I made the shot standing and leaning against a tree....no other position was possible...my heart rate was up from running....and I wasted precious seconds discovering it was too steep to shoot prone or sitting and the stag had gotten up to the edge of the dark timber and one more step he would be gone. At the shot the stag dropped right where he stood across the valley. When we got back to the guest house hunters from three villages came with their horns and the bar tab was on me. An enormous amount of beer was poured. I had to wire Berlin to pay up so I could leave town. Local hunters brought two sets of antlers he had dropped in previous years. I will never forget passing through the check point between west and east Germany with the antlers in the back seat of the car and all the meat in the trunk (I paid the trophy fee and bought the whole deer :0) Later that fall/winter I had to ship the skull and antlers to the annual trophy show. There was an article in the newspaper, and I eventually received a gold medal. I have hunted for most of my 75 years but there has been nothing like taking that King of the German forest. Congrats on yours.

This video gave me goosebumps! You did such a great job presenting the core of this trendy term Quality Deer Managament as it's done by the people who perfected it, in Germany! This is how you grow throphy stags, this is the practice that we picked up in Bulgaria and the result is several world records from the 70s and 80s! Only downside of this method is that you don't get to shoot stags from 4 y.o. until they reach maturity. most of the hunting is done at the younger age class. As a guide myself I'm always amazed how disciplined and patient my german clients are and you showed the same qualities, and that's why you were rewarded with success! No doubt Tobias was impressed, he looked vary happy as well! Weidmannsheil! 🌿 Good luck on your next adventure!

Great video, hunting in Central Europe (Slovakia, Czech rep., Hungary) is very much based on traditions and customs during and after the hunt. That makes it all the more interesting, and mainly it's about human relationships and friendships... I think there's a lot more that you would experience if you hunted in Slovakia, for example. We have beautiful nature :)
Yes, now this part is off of my video list, too. 🙂 Amazing pictures and as we say in Germany translated: "With this stag you fell a tree." (because of the huge crown that looks like thick branches) By far the king of stags, the so called "Platzhirsch". King of the woods, majestic and elusive. Funny to hear your decision weigh - wait for a affordable stag that might not appear or plunder your banking account for a mature red stag from Germany. 😀 A bit difficult to see and count, but it looks like an even 18 pointer? Waidmannsheil! 🌳📯
