    Not only are Kent's video superbly presented but the fact that the kits he provides are exactly what you would need! All car communities need a Kent!

    I initially focused on making my old Mercedes look pretty, knowing there were any number of mechanical issues to address. But I’m not particularly mechanical, so I did the stuff I could do and enjoy, while working with my mechanic on the tricky stuff. During the process, I LOVED walking in my garage and seeing this beautiful car, and I was highly motivated to keep the rolling restoration going.

    I like the idea of a rolling restoration that keeps you interested in completing the work and as an added bonus you can drive it and enjoy it now rather than some day. Thanks for the series in this restoration, looking forward to more updates.

    People complement me when driving my clean 240D but don't when it gets dirty. Keeps me motivated to keep it clean and running well

    Couldn't agree more Kent. I bought a 450SE last year that was left out for years. First thing I did was give it a good cut and polish. Came up beautiful. It's given me the motivation to look at other items for this rolling resto.

    Absolutely agree with Kent. Restoring a car is a human experience and humans are attracted to "pretty" things!

    I always reckon a clean well polished car goes better. I also talk to my W126 "Sadie" and tell her how good she looks. White Lightening looks amazing! The condition is so good. You've got a good one there, and she has wonderful home in which to enjoy life. Well done Kent.

    I’m excited Kent because that looks exactly like my car! Well except how shiny it is. Great presentations. Thanks for sharing.

    I did the same on my W123 230E. Even if your car is well maintained, you will find lots of grime hidden behind the trim. Mine is classic whtie, too. But with an olive green interior.

    I like my 300CE best when it's clean, tires dressed, windows, jambs, seals and plastic trim all glowing and awesome. I just stare at it for a long time....

    Awesome video Kent! I just acquired this same car last month and have started tinkering. This is going to be a great series to follow! Mine is missing some pieces for the climate control and other things in the engine compartment. One thing that would be really awesome would be some high res pictures of the engine compartment so I can see what I'm missing and how it all links up. (Google hasn't been as helpful as I would have liked) Thanks again!

    Really admire your every video and the way you deal with these old MBs, Kent! Tonns of useful and helpful information for old Benz owner with intelligent and positive presentation. I've spent lots of late evenings watching your channel. My best regards from the very West of Russia!
    P.s. due to close neighborhood with Germany we still have quite a lot of old Benzes cruising around our streets even nowadays. They're really as simple and reliable as Kalashnikov or T-34 tank. But most of them are so rusty, that even a bath of Miracle paint won't make them back alive)

    13:50 I think I'll get an optima or an AGM to stop any future issues.
    Gotta pull mine tonight and scout it out.
    Actually I put an optima in one of the wife's old cars, a 99.5 VW Jetta we got when it was 2yrs old.
    Best thing I ever did, I had ZERO issues with the wiring near the battery, like was so common with those cars.
    The acid fumes are not a good thing.

    Can I suggest that you include 60 new clips in your kit, as opposed to 58, as us "normies" have an inevitable tendency to lose or break a couple!!!

    Any suggestions on the best method to reduce the spiders in the paint, as I have the 1982 300CD driven by Dean Smith, famous UNC basketball coach that I am restoring.

    • @Mercedessource
      @Mercedessource  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi David, great project! I love the W123 turbo coupes. From my experience you only have two reasonable options. Keep the paint waxed so it does not get worse and "live with it" or do a very expensive repaint. When the paint cracks like this, if you want a new paint job to hold up over time you will have to strip the car to bare metal.

  • @davidl189

    Did White Lighting have any spider cracks in the paint as these older white MB have a tendency to do this.

    • @Mercedessource
      @Mercedessource  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      David, I have seen the same thing before, but the paint on this 240D is rock solid and came back to a deep shine with no haze or microscopic pitting in the paint. I am a big fan of original paint. All five of the last Mercedes I have acquired have beautiful original paint. 1981 White 300TD, 1986 Smoke silver 420SEL, 1983 Red 380SL, 1983 White 240D, and 1999 Silver SL500.

    • @Mercedessource
      @Mercedessource  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I don't bother on 30 plus year old cars. Too much work and expense. That is why almost all my Mercedes are convertibles or have sunroofs. :-)
