Thank you Kent! I follow your channel religiously. Some day my 1983 240D 4 speed, Molly, might look an eighth as good as white lightning. Cleaning and detailing -all- of the rubber is 100% reasonable.
I have a 81 white 240d,looks about as good as that one,was lucky to of found it,got it after watching countless videos of you, great enthusiasm you have thanks alot
I remember back in the late 90s it was rumoured that Mercedes spares catalogue has all the parts to build a brand new, out of production model. So w123 or w124. If you had the money and expertise to build 1 that'd be an amazing project
Had a old chevy, would rest my knee against the door, would hit that knob, after a few years i gained enough sense to reposition it,was in my late teens, great video's
Kent, Loyal customer and subscriber here. Would be really great if you could spend some time in an episode talking about the increasing market sale prices of diesel W115s and W123s, and why you believe this phenomenon is occurring across the developed markets. A quick look on Bring a trailer and mercedesmotoring.com will highlight some astronomical increases in sale prices for a car that historically never got much love. Much appreciated!
I am not really into diesel Mercs, rather prefer the gas ones, but I think my opinion has begun changing. I was planning to get at some time a (MOPF1 preferably) W124 300E or 300E-24, though I've heard the latter is more susceptible to more issues than the M103 ones. The idea was to get a considerably "cheap" but ok condition one to work my way up into making it better (not excellent), and learn in that path. Yes of course "there's nothing more expensive than a cheap Mercedes", hence why I am inclining to a 300D W124. Could a Diesel W124 work as a "daily beater" without having to worry much about it? As long as I can keep it running, no matter how rough it looks, it'd be ok. Just to add more miles on it!
I'd like to get a diesel Mercedes to restore and learn about. I'm a Ford diesel mechanic currently. Do you recommend a particular make and model to get to learn on?
Hello Kent Subscriber here..🤗👍luv your videos! I own a 1984 300d that I luv and polish with the werks looking nice! But I have a sound that's bugging me it's like a whisper sound coming from the front I thought it might be my wheel bearings any tips? Thanks for making your videos fun to watch🤗👍
Humming sounds are usually bearings. Whisper sounds are usually caused by air ( door seal leak - some part whistling in the wind - sunroof seals - turbo charger / exhaust leak. Hard to say from afar... :-)
That's a very problematic crank, not Mercedes-Benz standards. We already had to replace 2 or 3 on our W201. My father wasn't happy when I broke the first one as a small kid and trown the parts out of the window, but turns out it was already broken and glued by the first owner. They should at least provide it cheap because that's quite cheap in quality.
What I have found if you keep the window channels and the crank mechanisms well lubricated they don't break, but I have to agree they are a weaker ( thinner) pot metal than the older style.
Hey Kent, this car is such an unbelivable jewel! The overall condition can't be better except your loving detailing! This car is a keeper!!!

King Of Master Bergsma.
For cleaning the rubber, can Simple Green be used for the degreaser or is Dawn Heavy Duty degreaser a key part of the recipe?

You are looking at one. My choice would be a 1982 to 1983 240D or a 1981 to 1985 300D / 300TD / 300CD 5 cylinder turbo diesel.
Kent, have you ever tried using an old electric toothbrush for scrubbing small areas? I'm going to try on my rolling restoration 450sl.
Hi Neil, I use a lot of small brushes but have never tried an electric tooth brush. I might give it a try...:-)
looks great!!!!!
Please tell me that this 240D will be offered for sale when you're done making videos with it.
