when I was young and dangerous I hated anyone in their late thirties and older . They seemed to be mean a grumpy . By the time I got to that age I understood Why . They had a world of experience and didn't want to put up with the younger generations BS . It's all part of learning what is and what isn't . I'm 70 years old now, what do I know is My trade was who I was . At 15 I knew I was going to be involved in the freedom of being a pipeline rig welder and being a part of a distinct group of tradesmen that do not have a regular type of job . I also enjoyed the freedom of unemployment . Enjoyed the Constant of never being in the same place for very long. The trade demanded the best of ones self I liked the challenge . Tradesman are the builders of nations it is something to be proud of.

not everyone in the young generation is bs tho i’m 18 about to receive my cdl’s and my twic card just to try and hit the pipelines there are young cats out here who are very serious in this field ESPECIALLY when you got a young cat like me that has no connections in this what so ever, your willing to do whatever to get in 💯!

You've got 2+ years on me. I'm 10/4/56. Anyway. I am a jack of all, primarily AWS D1.1/5.20 1" unlimited thicknes all positions and ASME certified. Metals design & fabrication is my forte'. I have the scars reflecting 50 years experience. "Safety 1st. Quality 2nd. Efficiency 3rd" in that priority is how I work.

It's just as important to know what you don't want to do, as to know what you do want to do. Try everything, something can be gleaned from every experience.

Starting cheap and filling the calendar and slowly bringing the price up to a real price is a great way to do a good service and build a client list. Build until it’s busy then raise your rates, then do it again, and again then you’re going to look up and see a billable rate you would have never imagine. I did that same thing with property management as a teenager and I didn’t even have a driver’s license yet…. Getting a client list filled up doing a great job and keeping enjoyable clients around. Then in 20 years you can get to a client list that you’d have over for dinner and then truly appreciate your help too😊

I just started my company this month. I’ve been doing jobs for free as long as they reimburse for material. Ppl keep telling me not to do this but they don’t understand I have very minimal experience. Im still in welding school I graduate this month. Thanks for your videos man you help me a lot.

Most of my experience comes from TIG welding doing roll cages and the like. I wanted to start my own business but i wasn't a good stick welder so I went to the community college to learn stick, passed my certifications easily and the instructor who was a boilermaker started showing me other things. Now I run a mobile business part time, still have my 9-5, but working for less is very true to get your name out there. Reputation is everything.

@@Cryptopatient because Tig is very difficult when you're doing mobile work. Wind is not your friend.

      @balzonyr4head 6 หลายเดือนก่อน

@@Cryptopatient make a Google business profile, get verified and then pay for Google ads. Then get some business cards, make a good design and go hand out business cards at other small businesses that you think your customer base would be. Farmer markets, metal supply places, equipment rental businesses etc. You can also maybe offer something someone else does not offer, like free estimates in a certain radius or something like that.
By far 90% of the business I have gotten has come from Google ads. Now I'm getting business from referrals but it's taken me 2 years to get to that point.

When I first saw photos of welders working high in the sky on skyscrapers and sitting on I-beams, I knew I had to become a welder. Years later, although I’ve never worked in the structural part of welding, I’m still fascinated with the thought of it. I would do it for the experience too. I’m with ya on that!

Great advice! I work for my familys ranch in south central Oklahoma and thats my day to day job but I weld on the side around here and got started by doing a lot of free or very discounted work. Don’t regret it at all I paid attention to material cost how long projects take so i could price things fairly for future jobs and built a lot of confidence without pissing off customers instead they were glad to see someone getting started. Maybe one day ill catch you on some back 40 here in Oklahoma!

Addictions counsellor right now, went to college for Justice Studies. I’m now starting college again in January for Welding and Fabrication. My goal is either pipe line or running my own truck someday. Definitely building my dream in the background.
There’s a lot of value in your videos! Thank you.

Austin… Thank you for your videos sir. I’ve learn a bunch.
I’m building my own pipe fence here at home and building my Overheads for the gates with 5” pipe. Your videos have allowed me how to Saddle these joints, and 45 deg these 5” Gussets while using the Blue Book layout.
The Blue Book doesn’t list layout measurements for the Gussets (Branches), but I got very close and walked it in with my grinder.
I’m patterning these overheads with the exact look of your job that you used 8” Risers and 6” Gussets.
    Anyway… Thank you again sir.

Aaron I really like your channel brother. I would be willing to look into the school that you have my wife and I are down here in Colbert Oklahoma, I just got set up with the machine and some tools. I’m primarily doing shop work right now because it pays good and it’s steady but I’m in the process of venturing out. I’m a pretty decent welder, but I am dyslexic, so I’m not the best and fastest fabricator I figure that’s where I need to improve … I really appreciate what it is that you do here you are a standup gentleman by the way I used to have a book as well, I worked for Wayne Holden out of Arkansas on the work when it kicked off there in 2006 and seven onwards

I started out in the agricultural fencing business in 2001. I bought a Miller Bobcat NT225 to use as a generator and do my own welding. People started noticing and soon I was getting stand-alone welding jobs. I think I did a few at $35.00/hr. I know I worked awhile for $45.00/hr. Time went on, my name got around, I started getting structural certifications, I acquired more skills, tools, equipment and basically I outlived the competition. Through all of it, I tried to never forget to give the credit to God, my Heavenly Father. I’ve been blessed and now I’m charging $100.00/hr (partly due to Bidenomics), thinking about going up another $10.00 an hour and I don’t look for work. The work finds me. Point is, you can do this with persistence, determination and don’t forget to give credit where credit is due.

I know you don’t do much pipeline style videos anymore, but as a helper myself I’m looking for better ways to segment custom degree fittings. Could you make a video on different techniques to ensure the closet possible cut on a 90 to get said degree fitting wanted?

This is a question that has been burning in my head for a couple days that of off topic to this specific video. BUT I was watching your pipe fencing build videos and I cause curious how you figure your height for your horizontals? Do you just measure (x’x”) from the ground to your specified height?

Get more work . Means do good work, show up on time stay late if needed , make emergency calls , do some free / cheap labor for your local elders or school ag programs etc . As word of mouth will make you not want to advertise no more for the amount of work that will roll in . An do good upstanding work an maybe extra an not charge for the little extra
