So many of these ppl are now actually on the other side and are happily singing "Standing by the river". They don't need to 'try to get a glimpse' anymore. They have reached that wonderful place.
In 1998, my fiancee took me to see these guys even though he didnt like southern gospel. That changed by the second song and he was hooked. They were singing a well known worship chorus and George asked all the bass singers, only, to sing the chorus and when they were done, George said, "Yall would like to have your throats cut." The crowd just laughed and applauded. When the concert was over, my hunny said to George, "Im one of them basses you were talking about." And George leaned in and said, "And youd like to have your throat cut too, wouldnt ya?" That was almost 20 years ago and we still talk about how George, jokingly, threatened my husbands life! My husband says having Georges threat was the best and will cherish it through eternity. I miss the Cathedrals so much! They were, are, and forever will be my favorite southern gospel group. I can say Oh What A Savior is my favorite song, of theirs, and get SO blessed by that song that all I can do is raise my hands and cry! George Younce, Glen Payne, and Roger Bennett, I miss you but I know that youre tearing it up in Glory and I cant wait to see you again.
After the farewell concert in Shreveport, Louisiana, I said the same thing to George Younce. He replied jokingly, "Well, you had better git while the gitting's good."
I heard without the Gospel music we would not have Contemporary Christian Music. Gospel music is part of the Heritage of Contemporary Christian Music and will always be in my book
Brother Glenn and Brother Younce will never be forgotten. I can all but see them singing for the Lord and Singing a song the Angels will never be able to Sing. Blessings to their families for sharing them with us. Love Your Ministry. Take care Everyone,,, from Texas
Trying to Get A Glimpse Standing by the river, (Deep and Wide) Gazing across the tide(the raging tide) Standing by the river(by the river) Trying to get a glimpse Of whats over on the other side, (other side.) Standing on the banks of the river Looking beyond, looking beyond (The river, Ooh) Standing on the banks of the river Looking for a home, Looking for a home (To Heaven, Ahh) Just to get a glimpse of my Jesus And that home up there on high Looking for the light of my Savior Up in the sky Standing there waiting for the boat man Ready to go, ready to go (To heaven, Ooh) Standing there waiting for the boatman On that shore, On that shore (Of Jordan, Ahh) Just to get a glimpse of that city And behold my Savior there Then I"ll know forever I'll be In my Saviors care. I was standing on the banks When I saw that ol ship take my momma home I was standing on the banks when daddy Crossed the river and left me all alone Now I'm standing on the banks Waiting for my ride to heavens golden shore And I'm, trying to get a glimpse of what's over on the other side
THE CATHEDRALS! I'm a Christian musician and actually a really good one. It would be so wonderful to be part of something big. But perhaps God has spared me that. I got to play with rock stars in the late seventies. I had groupies, a fan club and all the hash I dare except from the Greek Mafia. 🥶 I choose to believe that Christian bands put God first and whatever they do they do it in a manner that will honor God. Put unfortunately that's not always the case and in fact it could be the exception. I know a little about the Christian music business and I don't always see a lot of difference between them and secular music. One scripture comes to mind that says you don't muzzle the auction that tred out the grain. Talented Christian artists like Guy Penrod have a lot more grace than me. Guy's voice and anointing was exploited (which is OK) and most of the time he carried the rest of the group. The founding members of the group we're getting rich wild Guy Penrod was hardly paid enough to support him and his family. I don't care who you hang out with or how many albums do you have out or how many Dove awards you've received, you're not going to receive God's full blessing if you're doing that to somebody who brings such value added to your group. I don't need to name the group because you probably already know and besides, it is obvious. I've got 20 or 25 years on Guy. I was building an itinerant ministry teaching on worship before life ended as I knew it. So I know a few things having been saved for 67 years and having been filled with a Holy Ghost at 18. So if I honor a man of God like Guy Penrod, there's a good chance that what I have to say is accurate. The best way I can honor Guy Penrod just to say that I would be willing to play drums and backup vocals for guy on my own dime. But I'm 73 in dealing with complications from covid-19 and cancer and that will never happen with him or anybody else. When you're younger you believe that old people are just irrelevant to your life. But have you ever talked to one and ask them what they think about heaven? Old Christians are an untapped resource. We know things that the most learned Bible Scholar doesn't... Some things can only be caught and not taught. But oftentimes when I lay my head on my pillow knowing that I'm living on borrowed time I get a sense of excitement peace and well-being that younger people can't grasp and less the Spirit reveals it to them. Now you might think this is silly and that's okay... But I ponder on when I first step foot in heaven. Of course I want to see Jesus. Seeing him will be so huge that there's no way to even express how much I'm looking forward to it so I'm not even going to try.) but what I can express are two things. I will get to lead millions in the song of the redeemed. I will be given a Heavenly Gibson j-200 and be able to play it even supernatural. And I will have a voice like Guy Penrod. At 73 my voice is better than it ever has been. But I will never be able to sing like Guy Penrod this side of heaven. I know that may sound silly but I can honor guy that way because I know he will give that honor to the Lord. Maybe when we get there I can do a duet with guy and leave the multitudes into the Heavenly version of Revelation Song. The other thing I'm looking forward to is sitting down with my dad and playing guitar with him. He died before he ever heard me play guitar or sing praises to God. One last thing ya'll.... There have been a couple of times that during worship I found a thin spot in the veil. It's funny, I've heard it said so many times that the Angels join in with us in worship. And I'm sure that happens. But when you find yourself wafting into the HOLY OF HOLIES, (now hear this if you're a worship leader) you realize just like David in THE TAB, you have purposely or even by accident worship in spirit and in truth. You have given TAHILLA PRAISE...unscripted worship from your innermost being. You found yourself next to the mercy seat and it didn't kill you. And that's because instead of having to sacrifice an animal, you enter the house of the Lord with the sacrifice of praise. It is then that you realize that's the Angels aren't joining in with you, that's a very song you're leading the congregation in at that moment was instead, YOU JOINING THE ANGELS. Don't overthink it. You've simply become sensitive like a tuning fork. You used to be 440A so you couldn't sympathetically vibrate what's the angels. But somehow your spirit is now tuned to 432 HZ (so to speak). Then it hits you like a ton of bricks that the word SELAH is not a literary term and loses almost all of its power in that context. Instead you realize that it is a Holy Ghost directive to the worship leader exactly like it was in the Tabernacle of David. You just led people in a powerful and anointed song but God wants to take the truth that was in that song and make it bigger. So instead of going to the next song on your list, you gently play a chord progression... Even the chord progression to the song you just did. But instead of singing the song again you might say, "let's ask God to do what he wants to do right now". Then, as the worship leader you begin to sing prophetically. God will put the words in your mouth and they will probably even rhyme. You will take what God was trying to say in the previous song and allow people to understand it better and even claim it for themselves. This new song may have a catch phrase that you can tell the congregation to sing with you and claim it as they sing. But I guarantee you, if God is trying to talk about healing, people will get healed without anybody laying hands on them. If God is trying to talk about freedom, people will get set free. Because praise is the amen to prayer, you might find yourself leading the congregation simply singing thank you, thank you, thank you Lord. I mean why would God want you to ponder on something if he did not want to manifest corporately, the promise in his word, the miracle that he wants to give you or the healing you have been praising him for before you even received it. You'll know when the time is right but you will always always always address the congregation and say, "here is what God was saying...did anybody experience what God said he wanted to do." I promise you, people will stand up and say they've been healed or set free or filled with joy.... Have them come up where you can hold a microphone for them and ask them what God did. I guarantee you, as they testified other people will receive. Then have them testify. I'm telling you, God shows up when you lift him up. Will my intention was not to talk about the SELAH, but that's what it looks like in real time. But what I was wanting to say and clearly this was not the important part otherwise I wouldn't have spent so much time on the SELAH.... But when you found that thin spot in the veil and you find yourself in proximity of The Mercy Seat, the music and singing itself will become so beautiful that your earthly body would not be able to handle it if you heard it for any longer than just a moment or two. I've heard Heavenly music three times in my life but for less than 2 or 3 seconds. Otherwise you might end up kicking out of stained glass window.😵💫 So yeah, I'm pretty excited about getting dead and going to heaven. And it's all going to be way more better than I have heard seen or imagined. 1st Corinthians 2:9

Trying to Get A Glimpse
Standing by the river, (Deep and Wide)
Gazing across the tide(the raging tide)
Standing by the river(by the river)
Trying to get a glimpse
Of whats over on the other side, (other side.)
Standing on the banks of the river
Looking beyond, looking beyond (The river, Ooh)
Standing on the banks of the river
Looking for a home, Looking for a home (To Heaven, Ahh)
Just to get a glimpse of my Jesus
And that home up there on high
Looking for the light of my Savior
Up in the sky
Standing there waiting for the boat man
Ready to go, ready to go (To heaven, Ooh)
Standing there waiting for the boatman
On that shore, On that shore (Of Jordan, Ahh)
Just to get a glimpse of that city
And behold my Savior there
Then I"ll know forever I'll be In my Saviors care.
I was standing on the banks
When I saw that ol ship take my momma home
I was standing on the banks when daddy
Crossed the river and left me all alone
Now I'm standing on the banks
Waiting for my ride to heavens golden shore
And I'm, trying to get a glimpse of what's over on the other side
