"its so destabilizing. My whole life means something different now." E X A C T L Y. Good on her for being so clear and to the point in a world that is consumed with pretending that "being positive" is somehow a cure for actual trauma. I dont know this actress; didn't watch the reboot shows of shows I watched as a teenager BUT now, from just this clip of an interview, I'm a fan of this actress AnnaLynne McCord.

CPTSD. We need a movement to force the APA to recognize CPTSD as a distinct and separate diagnosis from PTSD. The trauma is real and the distinction between them is vital to recognizing there are more symptoms with CPTSD and that treatment is often counter to recovery from PTSD. The International Classification of Diseases, 11th rev. Recognizes Complex PTSD as a separate diagnosis. As a sufferer, I cannot conceive of the possible reasons for the American Psychological Association to reject the distinction and classify them as the same. Doing so makes treatment identical which can be re-traumatizing to victims of CPTSD.

Thank you for covering this. Dissociative Identity Disorder is so misrepresented, undereducated, underfunded, underresearched, stigmatized. I have it, and I don’t have names for my alters but “we” experience and suffer from all the criteria, identity confusion, amnesia, voices, the cptsd. I’m always anxious and afraid to look at the comment sections because people think and say the most horrible stuff about DID, because they don’t know anything about it, come to their own wrong conclusions, and won’t listen to/think they know better than the people who live with it.
I’m 27 and disabled and fighting for my life every single day. And every single day I have to remind myself that because I literally don’t know that by default. I don’t recognize my partner, or the house I live in, or my pets, or my own reflection. I don’t have a concept of time. And no one knows I exist.
Please, allies, our community needs you more than ever. We can’t do it on our own. We really can’t. It’s exhausting enough as it is to have to defend/prove your existence. D:

    • @melissabeingmelissa
      @melissabeingmelissa 3 ปีที่แล้ว +7

I wrote this comment below just in case someone clicked to reply to insult me or call me fake. :
I have a severe disconnect between brain hemispheres. Parts of my brain go completely offline, or become under or over activated. My entire perception of reality depends on what alters are fronting. Every alter (alternative state of consciousness, usually separated by varying degrees of amnesia) has their own distinct physiological responses, and coinciding psychological profiles. It takes a lot of self-awareness to accommodate myselves, identify my given state, and rewire my neurobiology to begin healing.
I don’t work, so every day is dedicated to recovery. I study my multi-consciousness from the inside out in hopes of navigating this dissociative identity. (&finding the vocabulary and language to describe my experiences).
There are people who assume that everyone who is open about or ‘claims to have’ DID is doing it for attention and to scam people. I find that so insulting given what I personally go through and have been through. 🧠

Pstttt I wrote this comment for anyone about to search for other DID related videos:
One thing I want to say, before you go on TH-cam to find other channels run by DID systems, is not to judge what you’re hearing or assume what you’re hearing. Don’t take everything literally. Be prepared for your biases and quick conclusions, maybe even uncomfortable feelings. Some of you will be really confused and not like that. Some of you will feel uncertainty and doubt. Some of you might start to listen then brush it off and decide you’ve heard enough. Some of you might even be inclined to make fun or insult.
Look, just remember that objectively, the DID brain looks a certain way and is set up a certain way. Anyone would’ve gotten DID under the same factors and circumstances. Subjectively.... each person with DID is going to find their OWN words to describe their reality. Ok? In ways that they can understand. It’s up to YOU to translate what you hear.
The way that systems talk about themselves now, today in 2021, will change over the years. Remember that we don’t live in a traumainformed society, types of abuse is still accepted and normalized, survivors aren’t believed, or considered, and while treatment modalities are updated with growing research, not all Drs are trained & are relying on outdated information/old paradigms . This puts us behind! Families and friend are also generally unsupportive.
People with DID are doing the best they can. Speaking about themselves in the only ways they know how to.
There are BIG active anti-DID groups online who harass, cyber bully and discredit DID survivors. When they organize together, it’s ugly.
And unfortunately every day people find them and think they’re right so they join them.
That’s us why I’m writing this. For you, regular person reading. I’m just one person (....and privately I’m multiple people lol 😅), but this one person on the internet you’ll forget (👋🏻) is asking you to please stand up for our DID community when you have the chance.
Tell someone about DID who has never heard about it. There’s a chance omeone you know (or even yourself) will end up finding out you have it.

I have PTSD from a childhood trauma. My trauma didn't happen early enough in my development for me to develop DID, so I didn't develop with a fragmented personality that walls off different parts (I'm going by the explanations of the disorder from DissociaDID and other DID-diagnosed TH-camrs), but I _did_ have amnesia of what was done to me for about 4 years... until I hit puberty and learned some things during that time to bring the traumatic memory to the forefront of my mind and gave it the context necessary to finally _react_ to what had been done to me (I was confused when it happened, but old enough to know that _something_ wasn't right). Over a few months, at the age of 12-13, I realized that I had been assaulted by a caregiver when I was about 8-9 years old, and there are details in that memory that confirmed to me that it was a real memory of something that actually happened.
I didn't understand why, all of a sudden, I was only remembering it after years, as though there was this box sitting in the back of my mind's memory storage unit marked "uncategorized" that had suddenly been pulled out and opened. Now, though, I know that my young mind was trying to protect me by walling off the memory of an event I couldn't fully understand or process, in order for me to continue relying on the caregiver I had no other choice but to rely on.
As I understand it, in DID, the trauma happens earlier on in a child's development of their personality (and is usually a pattern of trauma...?), a young child develops alters (each with their own set of memories, etc) as a way of coping with the trauma of abuse, with different alters switching in depending on what the situation requires in order to protect the host body and personality, and the walling off of separate memories for each is like a more extreme and complex version of my unconscious walling off of what happened with my own traumatic memory.

The real issue is as follows.......most mental health professionals require cash payments, very high cash payments. They take few insurances, if on public assistance, well, treatment is ones a month if lucky. The USA has ignored and demonized mental health issues. As a retired Special Ed teacher I can tell you 90% of my children had serious daily issues to deal with, that you and I would be totally alarmed about! Affordable care and intervention early on is key to our future. I am of the negative side, 27 years is enough proof that we are headed down a spiral that me be irreversible. Blessings to all!

I envy the ability of performers and artists of all kinds to treat on their own time because they make enough money and have enough downtime to do so while the rest of us are expected to endure our daily struggle and subordinate treatment to off work hours and days off, 12 months a year. I'm not saying actors don't work hard, they absolutely do. I'm saying they don't work 12 months a year on the same project and therefore have the ability and time to dedicate massive focus to their recovery while my job resists and threatens my existence by monitoring my time off and needling me when it becomes excessive. And we wonder why suicide is on the rise? Duh.

_You know what_ ... ... *_is there any need for words to describe a Xmas Hallmark movie with a Radiant Beauty like Anna Lynne McCord ... It's simply a necessity to hear her voice, to watch her moves, to share ... her imaginary {I wish they all come true in her real life} thoughts_* ...
_The star for N.Y. Xmas-TV special, Hailey Andersson, is openly hurt on air by a frivolous still of her boyfiend with another woman. She rushes in her car out of the town when distracted by an incoming text message on the phone she escapes from a head-on collision, still crushing onto a by-road fence, which happens to be a Xmas stand of the local judge who will make an exaaaample, like 25 hours of social work into the children art center. Whilst her lucky collision rescapee hopes to win the Xmas Parade which could save the Art Center from closure by a 'sticky fingers' 50-50 sleathy mayor (secretly bribed by a real estate dealer & promoter, a modern peacetime pillager-&-plunderer)._
_Then the young woman rediscovers Xmas & remembers what it was all about, before she was hurt by other lifetime fences on her roadlife meant to be steady & sunshine clear but still full of bents & unexpected curves. Or may be she was meant to inspire another artist than herself, after all, that's what a soul mate is for - instantly eternal L.o.v.e. [cheers us all]._

You know what? The only thing talked about these days is mental health and I actually think that’s downplaying the severity of it. EVERYONE has issues and it’s good to talk about your mental health WITH A THERAPIST. I’m tired of people talking about their struggles. I’m tired of hearing about the sad stuff. I struggle too but why can’t we focus on anything happy? When is the last time we turned on the news and someone shared something great?
