- The time has finally come... to rank EVERY SINGLE ONE of the existing idents that aired on BBC2 during the 1990s!
The sequences from this particular era are often considered to be some of the greatest of all time... but are they really that good though...? We go through a ton of these idents from this era, and put them into our very own tier list ranking! To see once and for all which ones are worthy of their 'legendary' status and which ones are just plain stinkers...

I assume 'paint pot' is a nod to the original paint but in reverse- instead of paint hitting the 2, it's 2s hitting the paint.
This is what I thought, and the time and again now. Deserved to be much higher than F for self-referential points alone. Maybe C or even B tier.
You are missing two Robot Wars themed idents, which featured a robot Two made to look like the house robots combined, deserves a place in history.
they should bring it back every 10 years.
Piant was shown with the colours of the CBBC iden used on Saturday morning when Saturday mash up was launched
For me personally the BBC 2 idents are probably my second favourite, my favourite set of TV idents of all time are the Central Television idents from the same period! They were the best ever in my opinion! I do still love these idents though, if I had to pick a favourite it would probably be the 'car' ident but I like the copper cut-out one too, I also love the sound effects to that one.🙂🙂🙂
I think they are the best idents, personally, but whether anyone else does or not I can't say that any of the idents since have been as good. I was happy when BBC 2 brought them back about 10 years ago, for a limited period.
Firecrackers and Neon are my favourites, of the "standard" batch.

That was fun. That was a cool decade-long stretch of idents. I think I like more of them than you do. Although not all of them are perfect, overall there’s a lot of personality there. They’re much more interesting than what some American channels chose to do around the same time. Thanks.

rubber duck should be A tier
BBC Idents were always top-tier quality in my eyes. Maybe as an American whose TV networks never really felt as good to watch, when we finally got BBC America in the late 90s, I couldn't get enough of the idents and southing announcer voice. Every time I would see them, you just got quiet and braced yourself for what I assumed was going to be some super quality documentary or their news program. The closest thing we had was the old Disney Channel idents of the 80s.
These idents shown still blow anything in the US out of the water.
Oh and Christmas-wise my favourite would have to be the 1993 one, brilliant sequence and definitely stood out from the other Christmas idents!🙂🙂🙂
Copper Cut-Out deserved better. Sober, but not boring - visually refreshing - versatile - easily one of the best of the set. Deserved to be retained past 1999 and showcased further, would love to see it in HD.
EDIT: BALLOON IN E-TIER?? But- but- but- the peace! The serenity! The music! Such a crisp, simple image!! Deserved far more.

Bbc two debts during the 90s were awesome during the 90s bbc two identical as best ever plus during mid 2000 the remote control twos I wanted one as. A kid awesome video
Excluding the specials, how do/did they decide which ident to use for each program?

There were some dissagreements in this list, for example I would put Wallace and Gromit in S

Neon (Unironically would have one if there was mass produced '2' night lamp lol), Diary, Woodpecker and Venus flytrap would go to S rank for me, but hey, everyone have their own tastes.
Adam, will you do a tier list of whole ident packages (e.g the Legendary tier would be:- BBC1 mirror globe, the Lambie-Nairn 2s (1991-2001), ITV regions, the original 4s, Weathergens etc).
The Animated 2 is not an ident, it is a sting that is kinda silmilar to that of Screen 2.
You could say that the bbc 2 Christmas ident of 1993 was both from 1993 and 1994 since it was used in the new year. But I’m just pulling at strings to help 1994 have an s tier. I pretty much agree with your list though apart from wet and windy which isn’t one of my favourites compared to the cinema reel one. But I get we all have different opinions and it is interesting how similar I feel about most of them.
What's funny is the accidental motif that keeps popping up: 2 make some decent Idents when they are carefully planned and designed. Any created in a rush fall flat
Presumed paint pot was simply the original reversed..
original a plain '2'with turquoise paint hitting it,
later one is plain paint(in a tin) with turquoise 2's hitting it .
They brought back the two’s once could they do it again?
Perhaps they could for a special occasion!

If I were to rank the BBC Two 1991-2001 idents, i would basically put all of them in S or A-tier. Even the dull idents would go in at least D, C or B-tier, but that’s just my silly opinion. Thanks for doing this tier list, it really makes me smile.👍👏👏👍
My favourites are Dog, Duck, Car, Swan & Woodpecker! Dog should've been in S tier! I agreed with a lot of the others! I would like to hear what the creators of these idents think about this 😂
You should rank the BBC one idents as well, including the hot air balloons etc!

Rembrandt looks like toast. I like that
I will be a bit biased but the Dalek 2 Ident is my favourite because obviously I’m a doctor who fan. But outside that I really like the duck ident Because takes me back when I use to love having bubble baths when I was 4 or 5 years old.
Paint Pot is a reverse of paint :-)
Some of them are a s tier, some…meh.
