Jethro, did you get abducted by aliens? Good to see you back! Iain Tyrrell was in Cape Town recently to tune some Weber carbs on an old Aston at a small museum. Still lots of classic cars in the country.
Yep I saw that video with Iain Tyrell, at this really great museum in the Western Cape ,really enjoyed that video and Tyrell really knows his stuff. So very glad that Jethro is back,watching his videos are therapeutic and informative at the same time
Your first video I have watched and I've already subscribed to your channel, thank you! I have a quick question if you have time. I have a very early 45 DCOE with leather seals (not a brass shaft though, it's a steel shaft). I want to replace the bearings with sealed units thus eliminating the leather seals, can I use the same shaft or would it be recommended to use the later steel shaft with everything else remaining the same? Thank you once again!
Hi. Great video!. Its great that you state the part number for bearings - real cheap to get hold of. Will 2RS bearing seal completely, or do I still need to fit leather gasket - i didnt see them in your video? Can I recycle the washers, or do you replace them. If I can just fit the bearing its a real money saving solution compared to the total Weber kit.
This would have helped me in 2003 when I had a Ford Cortina with the 2 liter Pinto engine. It had a double Weber carburettor and no matter what you did to the damn thing, it ran worse. New needles, worse, new jets, worse, complete cleanup with every seal and diaphragm, worse, new coldstart spring, worse, new spindle bearing, car would run like an absolute Schweinehund, hunting, rough running, idle too high, idle so low it would die, conclusion, carburetors do not work. The only thing worse is carburettor in combination with two stroke engine. Then you have something that physically cannot run as it is impossible to function in any way. No wonder I like diesels

Hmm I don't know of anywhere that has a list like that published. I built up my tool collection bit by bit as I went along. These cars don't require very many specialised tools for general restoration. It's easier to get the tools as you tackle each job.
Do you apply any lubrication to the shaft when you reassemble? Or is it meant to be dry? I'm refurbing my 40 dcoe 2s. I've used sealed bearings as an upgrade.
I have rebuilt diffs before, but they were mostly just quick refreshes of fairly good diffs. I’ll be doing a couple of diff builds on the channel soon, one for my 1300 Ti and one for my GTV.

The same seals should work just fine 👍

The rubber sealed bearings are already sealed as they arrive. I just clean up the washers and re-use them if they're in good shape.

Jethro Bronner does your GTV have an LSD? I’m planning to refresh mine next so I’d love to see one of those rebuilt :)
No my 1750 GTV just has an open 4.3:1 diff. But the 4.1:1 I'm building for the Ti will be limited slip.
How do I remove the spring wrapped around where the pin sits?
