I really like this format to talk about games from the last year. It really helps show off unique games I might have missed like Chained Echoes. If I had to give out one it would be the most unique award to Chants of Sennaar. It's a puzzle game where you play as a traveler that has to use contextual clues to learn the languages of the different people.
Fire Emblem Engage is easily my GOTY. It's everything I love about Fire Emblem and more, great gameplay, great music, great visuals and a super colorful and fun cast to make me want to replay the game over and over again so I can use them all with different classes and see all their supports.
As others are saying, this Award Show format rocks. 🙂 It allows you to showcase games that do certain things super well, and highlight titles which might not otherwise be part of a GOTY discussion. Games like Suika, which looks adorable and fun as all heck!
Really liked this different spin on the video :D And thank you for talking about Genshin Impact, the Fontaine Arc was seriously incredible so far, and these Characters grew so dear to me in just a few patches. It's really the best Arc of the Game so far, and it just seems to get better with every new region. Really excited for the future at this point~
Engage is my most played game of the year. I think the gameplay is absolutely brilliant. While I live the simplicity of older titles, it's also very fun and satisfying to make use of this game's huge toolbox and creative use of the Emblems to deal with the large amount of enemies it throws at you. As someone who likes to play these games multiple times and try out different strategies, it's kind of a dream and has only gotten better the more I've played it.
I look forward to one day replaying Engage myself 🙂 I put in well over 100 hours into it, the gameplay was just so fun and addicting, and I found the world and characters vibrant and charming.
Awesome video! Thank you for all your work on channel and super excited to see more of your videos next year, especially on TTYD, Persona 3, and Metaphor: Re Fantazio
I think I prefer this format to the game of the year videos, actually. I may not agree that TotK is game of the year worthy (from a critical perspective, individual GotY is fair game), but I can certainly agree its new mechanics are impressive and ambitious.
Fully agree with you one this, was getting a little annoying watch TOTK sweep and be treated like obvious pick when I have so many issues with it. But focusing on just the ultra hand/crafting primarily lets me more easily appreciate some of the good things about the game
The one hilarious thing about Metroid Prime Remastered that no one has ever brought up is how it now has an option for Federation Force's default control scheme with the Hybrid controls, because FF played like the GameCube but you could enable gyro for free aiming. It's that good, they allowed you to tap into FF's controls if you're somehow only used to that.
You're really selling me on Chained Echoes, when you described the Overdrive mechanic I was genuinely mad I hadn't thought of something like that myself. Such an interesting idea to keep you from just spamming one attack to win... Though I can see pairing up an increase and decrease attack and alternating to stay in green as a strategy, that still sounds like a satisfying system.
I love this idea and format. If only beacause everyone else was oing the same old GOTY bit and they all put TOTK at number one and felt like i didnt need to watch the whole thing. this is good content. Thanks Daniel
3H is in my top 3 FE games and is just one of my favorite games in general, so I was initially a little disappointed when I saw Engage would be going in a different direction. But I'm honestly glad that it did. The story may be a hot mess, but damn if it doesn't have the most fun game play in the series. And even the characters, while lacking in depth, I still found to be likeable and endearing. Engage scratches a very different itch compared to 3H and both games can co exist with each other.
Exactly!! If we can have the pros of 3H’s story/characters/lore, Engage’s gameplay, fidelity, and animations, and Shadows of Valentia’s gorgeous artstyle and character designs, I think that’ll be the perfect FE game
Agreed as well! Between an immaculate soundtrack, quality story, well developed cast and charming as heck presentation, this was one of my most enjoyable experiences this year 🙂
Hey Daniel, if Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door remake is your most anticipated game next year, maybe you'd be interested in Born of Bread? It's heavily inspired by that game, and is super adorable and charming, and funny to boot! It has some bugs to iron out, though, especially on consoles, but it's definitely got a lot of heart!
really enjoyed this format! i would like to provide my picks for your categories! Just a note, I am picking from the heart and do not care how obvious my choices may be. I am not trying to be alternative in any way :) Best Remake/Remaster - I cannot disagree with you here so I wont! Loved Metroid Prime Rematered! Shout out to Dead Space and Resi 4. And I know that it wasnt really a remaster, I enjoyed the re-release of Red Dead Redemption on the Switch. Just WOW! Best Immersive Feel - Alan Wake 2. While I was playing as Saga, I almost forgot I was playing Alan Wake. I was very compelled with the narrative, setting pacing, visuals, sound and just about everything! Shout out to Spiderman and the wingsuit! The feeling of speed was a great improvement! Also shout out to Coccon, so simple yet complex. What an experience! Thank you gamepass! Best DLC - Cyberpunk 2077 Phantom Liberty. Lets be honest here, this DLC was really about a re-do of the whole game. It is an expensive DLC, but it is worth it because sometimes it is worth paying for quality experiences. CD PR have redeemed themselves in my eyes. Shout out to Dead Cells; Return to Castlevania and Resi 4 Seperate Ways! Best of Late 2022 - I dont really have an entry here, I did get my Witcher 3 upgreaded to PS5 for free and loved playing through that again Best Returning Series - Street Fighter 6! I love everything that did with this game! So much better than SF5! Love that little single player mode where I created my fighter and had bouts with NPC's! Felt almost Yakuza like except that I was the baddie haha Most Addicting - Bomb Rush Cyberfunk. I was so happy this game came out, it brought back that arcade like grindy tricksy cool rad gameplay from jet set radio. I even love that graphics style. Great great fun! Best Sprite Art - I actually will agree that Sea of Stars is where it's at, but what about that beautiful little remake Star Ocean Second Story R and the impaccable Octopath Traveller 2? I have to agree, this art style has a place in gaming! Best Story - Bulders Gate 3. Easy winner in my opinion of 2 of your categories. Making your own story and the whole meaningful choices schtik, was not really accomplished until this game was made and blew eveyryones mind. Most Controversial - Forspoken. I know, just hear me out. I know that the majority of people hate this game and its character, but I am unsure if it is because of the memes or not! I actually enjoyed this game MORE than FF15 and think it did magic better than Hogwarts Legacy (which is criminally under appreciated btw). The art is great, really enjoyed the boss fights. LOVE the traversal! And I like Frey, and like that she isnt this perfect pretty girl. You can tell I am passionate about this game. It is my gem of 2023!! Most Ambitious - Zelda TOTK! Yes I completely agree. Pokemon Scarlet and Violet cannot run on the Switch, but somehow Zelda can.. This game tbf, woulld be an ambitious title on any system, but the fact that it works on the switch and even boots up is unbelievable! Shout out to Larian Studios that blew the minds of every AAA developer to the point they felt compelled to go online and make excuses about their inadequacy! Most Anticipated - Final Fantasy Rebirth. OMG I cannot wait to return to this epic story! FF7R is one of my all time fav games ever! ADD CATEGORY - MOST OVERLOOKED GAME - Remnant 2! This game is awesome, huge improvement from the first game which is pretty good, but this is glorious! People really do not talk about this one much which makes me a sad gangsta panda...
Was hoping the sprite art section would have mentioned cassette beasts. Something about making a full cast of collectable creatures with as much personality as they display while also having a fusion form for every possible combination really impressed me this year. Shame none of you mentioned it in your yearly favourites, was a personal favourite in this stacked year
A lot of people has told me that Chained Echoes is good. I really need to try it out. By the way, I loved FE Engage, the battle system and animation was so good.
I'm genuinely pleasantly surprised you mentioned Suika Game! I downloaded the game during the recent game trial on NSO and I had the urge to play the game every chance I had! I achieved my best score early on in the trial and I constantly wanted to go back and try to beat it. But I often screw myself stacking the bigger fruit on top of the smaller fruit wondering how I'm ever going to get them to touch (which often never happened lol)! I'm too much of a cheapskate to buy it now but maybe there will be a sale or maybe I'll just bite the bullet at some point 😂
Metroid Prime Remastered definitely deserves to be the best remake/remastered category. But Kirby: Return to Dreamland Deluxe & Super Mario RPG should also get an honorable mentioned. Paper Mario: The Thousand Year Door remake is gonna be getting that category next year whenever that game comes out and you bet I'm looking forward to it
Love these awards! I think the "Fashionably Late" award was a really cool idea. Though I'm not quite sure about giving Pikmin the "Best Returning Series" award. With Hey! Pikmin, Pikmin 3 Deluxe and Pikmin Bloom it didn't really feel as though the series was dormant, even if it has been a while since the last fully new "mainline" game
Have a happy new year, Daniel. Your video is charming, informative and entertaining. Let's play Tears of the Kingdom. My favourite goty is Octopath Traveler 2, although I haven't played it through. Keep on grinding, dude 😊😊!
Three Houses and Engage were both fantastic games for totally different reasons, so I get why people were disappointed by it, but also I thought trimming the fat that was the between-mission BS was a great move, and the gameplay felt much more ENGAGE-ing. : P I think the story and characters were much stronger in 3H, but for what it was, I think Engage did a decent job balancing unique new characters and fanservice-y returning characters.
To be honest, I feel like a lot of the criticisms raised against Engage were more that it failed in what it was trying to do outside of gameplay. The writing was dull to the point of not caring, the character designs feel like Genshin Impact characters trying to audition for the Hololive roster (something that’s even more glaring compared to the past protagonist that are in the game), & the hub world was poorly executed to the point where I would’ve preferred them to just not have the Somniel. It never had to be just more of Three Houses, & games like SoV prove that you can execute a simple story well. Engage simply failed to do that. Of course, if you just want some good-ass strategy, go ahead & pick up Engage. Just……skip all the cutscenes.
I do understand the complaint's of Engage's story/cutscenes, but as someone who couldn't get into 3H I honestly preferred what Engage did. Story is kind of goofy but in a charming way imo
Nope Spiderman 2 does suck, just another boring game for people who like movies over games with subpar and serviceable gameplay at best. Also TOTK was an embarrassment for taking 6 years to make this recycled trash.
Such a cool idea man. I hope this becomes a GVG staple!
i totally agree
I really like this format to talk about games from the last year. It really helps show off unique games I might have missed like Chained Echoes. I'm very proud of what you managed to accomplish while being at GVG. From a fellow Daniel to another, have a wonderful holiday
Daniel successfully pulls off a great awards show that's much better than the Game Awards!
As others are saying, this Award Show format rocks. 🙂 It allows you to showcase games that do certain things super well, and highlight titles which might not otherwise be part of a GOTY discussion. Games like Suika, which looks adorable and fun as all heck!
Really liked this different spin on the video :D

Excellent video, Daniel. So glad to have your talent and warmth be a part of this community
Next year Daniel's year-end review will just be top 10 fishing mini-games in 2024, and I'll be here for it. 👏👏👏
Man if FE Engage had good writing it would easily be my favourite game in the whole series... For now it's just comfortably in my top 5
Engage is my most played game of the year. I think the gameplay is absolutely brilliant. While I live the simplicity of older titles, it's also very fun and satisfying to make use of this game's huge toolbox and creative use of the Emblems to deal with the large amount of enemies it throws at you. Gameplay and visual polish goes hard, love it
Daniel recognized Arlo.
Kings recognize kings. 👑
Awesome video! Thank you for all your work on channel and super excited to see more of your videos next year, especially on TTYD, Persona 3, and Metaphor: Re Fantazio
Ditto! Man, we are getting spoiled for good RPGs next year, huh? 🙂
*Daniel begins talking in his intro, mentions game awards*
...I'm just imagining a sign popping up "Please wrap it up." lol
Daniel’s videos are just on a whole other level, man…
I think I prefer this format to the game of the year videos, actually. I may not agree that TotK is game of the year worthy (from a critical perspective, individual GotY is fair game), but I can certainly agree its new mechanics are impressive and ambitious.

Great video. I love the format. I never heard of Chained Echoes last year, now I've got to have it. So thanks for featuring it on the list 🤩
What a well crafted video, thank you for all the good vibes :)
I see why Daniel’s video went up last, he really went the extra mile!

Great video. I love the unique format to showcase the games. Plus there's a lot of great picks!
Daniel being the MVP as per usual
Finally the recognition of Suika that it deserves this year
Metroid Prime absolutely deserves the "Best Remake" award, but Ghost Trick should at least be part of the discussion.
100% agree, loved Ghost Trick this year
Agreed as well! Between an immaculate soundtrack, quality story, well developed cast and charming as heck presentation, this was one of my most enjoyable experiences this year 🙂
But that was less of a remake and more of an iPad port.
neither of those are even remakes lol
@@wenoay true
I'm not sure why you don't consider throwing bombs in the water in Tears of the Kingdom to be a fishing minigame. It's incredibly satisfying.
Lmaoooo
17:57 I think we can all agree Three Hopes was most under appreciated game of last year.
This is amazing Daniel! Y'all should do this every year from now on.☺
THANK YOU! FOR GIVING CHAINED ECHOES ATTENTION! SUCH A GOOD GAME!

hell yeah genshin impact i start in aug 2023 in 3.8 i have been loving genshin
Daniel we love you!!!
I wish Genshin wasn’t so freaking good so I could actually play some other games this year 😭
I'm genuinely pleasantly surprised you mentioned Suika Game! I downloaded the game during the recent game trial on NSO and I had the urge to play the game every chance I had! One year later and I am still waiting on my physical version of Chained Echoes. Even Limited Run is faster than First Press.
The best year-end list video award goes to Daniel.
I love this format! It’s really well done.
Excellent video format and script. Great work
That's what I ask myself every time I play a Monolift Soft game and games they had a hand in making
I'm a bit late here , but I'd like to say I enjoyed the categories, they were very well picked! Great list!
Love it, great format!! Only thing missing Best fishing award!! 🐟🐠🎣🎏🎣
Loved this video and format 😊
Loved this format. Great video and list👍🏼

Suika game appearing in an awards show is a surprise, but a welcomed one!
The GVGs has a nice ring to it. Maybe they’ll take over Geoff Keighley’s game awards 🙃
Have a happy new year, Daniel. Your video is charming, informative and entertaining. Let's play Tears of the Kingdom. My favourite goty is Octopath Traveler 2, although I haven't played it through. Keep on grinding, dude 😊😊!
I was literally doing my Genshin dailies while watching this and did a double take at 14:55
That mathcore drop was fire
One year after release and we’re still waiting for the physical release of Chained Echoes from First Press. I probably won’t order from them again.
Three Houses was my first FE. I bounced off the social stuff. I loved Engage.
I'm still sad that the Switch version of Genshin Impact is canceled (obviously) ahah.
Chained Echoes is so dope!!! I played the crap out of it, and the music is so dang good, especially the final boss!!
Three Houses and Engage were both fantastic games for totally different reasons, so I get why people were disappointed by it, but also I thought trimming the fat that was the between-mission BS was a great move, and the gameplay felt much more ENGAGE-ing. : P

TOTK not having fishing is a crime!
We love you Daniel! ❤
yeah I rly wanted to fuse a string to a stick and make a fishing rod in totk, so, :\ I gotta give my "most ambitious game" to Stray Gods instead
Not only Tears of the Kingdom failed at cooking, but I still cant play fetch with a dog by throwing a stick!! 😢
Great year of games mixed with the horrors of the industry and of humanity.
I've got 60 hours in Chained Echoes but somehow missed the turtle racing 🤔 Incredible game though, even better than Sea of stars.
You guys are gonna make me go broke. I keep going to amazon or ebay after every video of yours
I want our cherries to kiss and be friends too Daniel
🥺👉👈
10 times better than the VGA’s.
Yippee!
A better award show than TGA Daniel
I hate when you get a bad bounce and they fruit goes flying in Suika game.
Ohhh Suika Game.....
You are my favorite
Fire ♨now 🌟💗
Also, no mention of Mario RPG? TwT
He briefly touched on it during the Metroid remake segment.
He did mention it...
[ Wrap it up ] 😉
Glad u used this format and not top 10

pick one
Overlooked on this channel, it’s not a game I’d expect to see highlighted here.
I really wish the whole "Good Vibes" catchphrase would thizzle out already. People overuse it and it's kinda cringe at this point.
Nope Spiderman 2 does suck, just another boring game for people who like movies over games with subpar and serviceable gameplay at best. Also TOTK was an embarrassment for taking 6 years to make this recycled trash.
