Walking into the cockpit in leeds having just turned 18 and being greeted by this inside. I’d thought clubbing was just dance music and cheese. Finding a place with like minded people was truly mind blowing stuff.
I am forever grateful I was able to see them live at venue with 50 people in the crowd when they first toured the states. They played as if there were 10,000 people. One of the best shows I've ever seen. Saw them a couple years later without Pete. It was good, but not the same
This was the band that actually gave me tinnitus because of how loud I blasted them every single night for years. They absolutely defined my childhood, and my future exploration in music as a hobby.

Hands down the Best New Band to come out of the UK in the early 2000s! Them and The Strokes were the two most important bands that Revived Garage Rock N Roll!
The Libertines influenced me as a teenager alot. Sometimes, I would want to emulate my heroes, borrow from their rebelliousness, you know? It got to fever pitch sometimes, I was at a point when I would drink a can of Pepsi just before bedtime, for the buzz!
Nobody talks about that beautiful chemistry between Carl & Pete. Something special & amazing happened when these two special people met & tasked themselves with doing something wonderfully anarchic & enjoyable. A great time to be alive.
Just got into the Libertines properly after their new release wow what I’ve been missing out on for the past 20 years this The Ha ha wall, Music when the lights go out, last post on the bugle and the saga are my favourites but every time I listen to another Libertines tune it just clicks somehow addictive band for sure

im from canada and never even heard of these guys despite thinking I was pretty aware of rock coming out of the uk at the time. no idea how they dont get more love outside of the uk when bands like artic monkeys and franz ferdinand were huge here at the time.
Singing this tune every night out pissed with the boys, broke but stealing from supermarkets and blagging beers in pubs. Scoring young ones, finding parties, waking up and doing it all again. The fucking glory of youth. Bittersweet listening to this now
Indie bands from this era had the music video down to an art. I remember seeing this, pj Harvey's "good fortune" and white stripes "hardest button to button" all on MTV2. Way back when indie music was still authentic and the video actually complemented the song (so much cooler than the corny Hollywood style videos of the nineties) It was like a microcosm of indie culture that only lasted a few years.
Exactly. I feel lucky to have been a fan during my formative years, but gosh I miss it! And am sad that so much of it seems to be forgotten/underrated looking back.
As a teen I had this song set as a ringtone. I think that people in public transport loved when I was getting a call. Especially the moment when after the yell the music was coming brought some smiles and laughts.
His singing rambles through the music and makes me think of the typical mumbling that Jarvis Cocker do in his songs, but their tunes are far different and both attractive.
Hope can live forever in this party room. Happy, high in a good trip, with pretty girls, playing music, cool jackets, feeling into the clan, young! No problems, no bad consecuences of drugs.. Forever young.

Said sunshine I would n want to be in your shoes
And they chased me up three flights of stairs
Caught me in the lift how I sighed and said
Help 'cause you're impossible
But it's just like he's in another world
Doesn't see the danger on show
He'll wind up like Joseph bloody in a hole
And it's just like she's in another world
How they suit each other oh
But you never get close

Said they'd double their offer I was so bold

Doesn't see the danger on show
He'll end up like Joseph bloody in a hole
It's just like she's in another world
How they suit each other oh no
