One of Britain's best bands. Not given the credit they deserve, wrote some truly excellent music and fantastic live. I would give my left bollock to see these guys in concert.
I saw them live when they were a support act for Queens of the Stone age, I think it was in 2002. The entire gig was so good, the music the energy, everything about it was awesome. One of my favourite memories from my youth.
During my high school years, my suburban friend played this in his car as a starter to his driving playlist on his ipod in 2009. Me, growing up poor never knowing ever having such amenities next to him was blown away from hearing even the first second to the very end of this song. Later after a few years, he ended his life. When ever I remember that this song exists every now and then , I am brought back to then on a cold flagstaff night riding shotgun with no worries or lifegoals in mind. I always felt no one after matt felt the same vibe brought by this song. I am brought with happiness with comments feeling with such positivity
I served in the British Army, we got back from Iraq and my best mate Johnno was hit by a car in Newcastle when we were out on the piss… this was his favourite song… we played it at his funeral… we used to then drink to this and get smashed thinking of Johnno… whenever I hear this… I think of Johnno

Teenage years without TikTok or even smart phones, roaming the city, smuggling drink in our pockets and just being a good natured nuisance to others! I'm a high school teacher now and feel so lucky that my childhood in the 2000s was so technology free, so lucky!!
The Libertines were and still are a special band for a lot of people, I have the fondest memories of them and these times, getting off my rocker. Never forget that the Future king of England got married in his Libertines Jacket x
When Libertines were big, my brother was in a minor band, and apparently loads and loads of people had Petes mobile phone number. I think he'd just hang out and sesh with anyone, which is fair play in my book. But maybe that lifestyle got him into trouble a few times, could have been worse though, he's lucky probably
This song reminds me of the good old days, with people I no longer speak or engage with for various reasons. Sad, yet beautiful in a sense. Sad that friendships are bound by energy other than loyalty & beautiful to reflect on the memories. Just because we don't speak to the people, it doesn't mean we shouldn't smile, reflect, process & move forward. Happy Sunday. Stay blessed ✌🏼

The thing I love about the best of the Libertines' songs (like this one) is that they're chaotic, but still somehow hang together, returning to an underlying melody. Kind of like punk rock, in that they're not particularly sophisticated sonically, but quite unlike anything else, they have a complex structure that's satisfying. If that makes any sense? If the drugs hadn't got in the way, maybe they could have conquered the world.
two of the most dumbest and tired and untrue cliches about rock music: “it’s simple yet it’s still good!!!” , “it was made ON DRUGS!!!”.
