- The plaintiff owns a piano company and was hired by the defendant to bring his act to his venue once a month. The plaintiff claims the contract said the dates and pay were guaranteed. However, the defendant canceled a night and never paid, so the plaintiff is suing for wages owed. The defendant argues the plaintiff’s contract expired before the performance in question. Due to the weather, the defendant had to cancel.

There wasn't any reason for the venue not to pay them. They knew full well that contract was still in play. The Plaintiff's case was ironclad to ensure he doesn't get stiffed.

I’ve been to Marks show a bunch of times because he plays at a local venue near me and we all have so much fun. He is hilarious and him and his guys are extremely talented. I’m glad he got his money.

Yes, she also likes to call herself. A judge in that a courtroom which neither is true. She is not a practicing judge and that is not a courtroom. This is arbitration. Set up like a courtroom, purely arbitration though

Why do all the litigants hand the judge something to read & keep talking 🤦🏽♀️ And if the contract they signed freely specifically states $100 for every week late how can she change the contract?
I think they do it to try and distract the judge from key points of the contract that they know will harm their case. Just my thought.

I have a feeling the reason it didnt turn out well is because the Defendant didn't advertise very well....This sounds really neat...We had a DJ and Karaoke business from 1993-2009 and it went really well at places we worked....we also played at the venue for 3 nights Thursday was Karaoke and dance music to sent up the singers through out the night...Friday and Saturday was DJ music....We also did light and sound for local bands......
He should have just had them play in the rain for themselves.

Yeah, as soon as I heard that the defendant cancelled at the last minute I suspected the owner told him to and damn the verbal contract. These two guys go way back across multiple venues; cancelling wasn't the defendant's idea, especially when he had said in the previous email, "Bill me." The owner didn't want to.

I've seen the dueling pianos at a bar called Sing Sing in Denver.
I'm curious if he played at The Piano Bar in Dallas, TX. it's a dueling piano bar with lots of banter, with a lot of audience participation. It's a great venue, and lots of fun.

Although I agree with the plaintiff he should be paid. I would assume this claim would tarnish a good working relationship. The guy has hired him for 8 years at several venues. Idk if 800 was worth it.
One of the more clear cut cases; bar owner is an ass#$@+ and it was obvious they were responsible for paying. Most people don't know that in many jurisdictions small claims judges do not have to follow the law but can make decisions based on fairness and equity. Of course, television proceedings are actually binding arbitrations, but I would have like to see Milian increase the award due to defendant's bad faith.
Well the plaintiff may not have done a good job in the bar but he did in court. He shouldn't have got tips tho. That's not a guarantee also it's not guaranteed he will give it to the guys. He already paid them.
The defendants straight up lied. Hopefully the plaintiff doesn’t do something like that again.
What if someone gets hurt during the rain storm? That guy on the left would be liable for damages! Or get sued.

Milian seemed enamored with the plaintiff right from the get go which is why he won despite getting less than what he had asked for. I'd just wish she acted in the same manner to black folks who oftentimes get treated like shit amongst other things.
