I like to think when Tommy said "We exported the file" he meant that he and Joey held hands and clicked the mouse together while staring at each other passionately
Notice how when he says "my mother is very proud" there's a clear omission of WHO the mother is proud of, he could easily add in "of me" at the end but he never does The only feasible conclusion is that his mother is actually proud of Joey Kuras
this feels like another plot point that would enter the video as a joke only to then lead into a sections where HBG lays out mountains of evidence that Tommy's mom is more proud of Joey than Tommy
So I realized something very funny about the whole "worked with Miyamoto for 5 years" lie just to compound on the lies. I thought 5 years sounded a bit much for Metroid Prime because I remember hearing that Retro Studios went into crunch time to get the game out so I happened to check the development time frame and the WHOLE game took four years. So he's exaggerating not only how long he worked on the game, HE EXAGGERATED SO MUCH IT WENT PAST THE TOTAL DEVELOPMENT PERIOD. That also led to a really funny Wikipedia deep dive where I found in an IGN article that Miyamoto said, "As a matter of fact, we were about to present Metroid Prime to the Space World 2001 show, but it doesn't yet have good enough sound effects..." If I'm looking at the timeline right, that's around the time Tommy Tallerico Studios left. So not only did Tommy supposedly worked hand in hand with a guy who reportedly did not like Metroid, not only did he work with him LONGER than the total development period for the whole game, MIYAMOTO DIDN'T EVEN THINK HIS SOUND EFFECTS WERE GOOD ENOUGH. I'm dying, I can't with this.
He did this time-twisting shit a lot when promoting the Intellivision Amico. Every time he talked of Intellivision of the early 80's, he always says "we" like he was with the company originally. Intellivision wasn't even a company back then- it was the product made by Mattel. Tommy was pretending he was involved when he was 10-11 years old.
This comment cites its sources better than the half of the stuff in HBG's next video! Edit: I already commented on this comment and then forgot about it. I was wrong. It's both funny and terrible
Fun fact: Tommy's work on Sonic and the Black Knight is also fraudulent. Thanks to some incredible sleuthing from folks in the Sonic community, it seems that Tommy didn't compose any of the music in the game. He's credited as the composer of three tracks: Molten Mine, Great Megalith, and The Cauldron. These three songs are all taken from other games that Tommy Tallarico Studios worked on. Molten Mine is and Great Megalith are from the Game Black Dawn and The Cauldron is from Adrenix. Molten Mine and Great Megalith are both arranged by Jun Senoue (the Guitarist from Crush 40 and composer of many Sonic soundtracks), and The Cauldron (which is credited as "Arranged by Tommy Tallarico") is a straight game rip from Adrenix. All three song are composed by Todd Dennis who is unfortunately not credited on Sonic and the Black Knight. Both Dennis and Senoue are incredible composers, so check out the comparison for yourself Black Dawn - Action Theme -> Molten Mine Black Dawn - Track 6 -> Great Megalith Adrenix - Track 10 -> The Cauldron
It also seems that the Black Dawn Action Theme is used in the game Knockout Kings 2000 in the training mode. That game simply credits Audio to Tommy Tallarico Studios with Joey Kuras as Sound Designer. No mention of Todd.
Update for May 2023: Everyone at Intellivision has left Tommy, many of his fans have confessed or have been revealed to have been bought by Tommy through patreon donations, both his offices have shut down, and last I heard, he's being sued by an interior design company over unmade payments for the elaborate offices he requested. VGLive is still playing though.
One last little sprinkle to throw on top of all this. The joke Talarico keeps telling about his fountain and how it makes him have to use the bathroom? Yeah that's a joke from Friends. Joey got an apartment with a little waterfall fountain in there and he says the problem is it makes him have to use the bathroom. Even that joke is stolen... and ironically stolen from another Joey.
I love how Hbomb mentions that Tommy was on MTV Cribs around 9:48, and hints at the fact that he probably lied about it, and yet by the time the video finally starts talking about MTV Cribs, Hbomb's uncovered so many massive lies that you've completely forgotten about Cribs. The Tallerico Event Horizon is real
I think the big tragic thing with this whole situation is Tommy was a legitimatly very successful person who did work on some absurd amount of projects and companies, and ventures. He someone people should admire their career. But Tommy had some mental issues and ruined their reputation and career. Its tragic.
No joke, I had in fact completely forgotten about that by the time he got to the reveal. In fact, I'd forgotten so thoroughly that the reveal didn't even jog my memory of the foreshadowing. When I rewatched the video and I got to 9:42 I was like "AYO WAIT WAS THAT ALWAYS THERE?!"
@@AL-lh2ht Tommy's story honestly reminds me a lot of Brian Williams, who was a reporter from NBC News who got caught lying about a lot of the stories he told to others a while back. Brian also was one of the most successful news reporters that have ever lived, and so those fake stories that he told were never seriously questioned by others until someone came forward with the evidence.
From the Tommy Tallarico wiki "Misleading claims In November 2022, British TH-camr Harry "Hbomberguy" Brewis published a video essay which documented many of the high-profile claims that Tallarico had made concerning his career-including the number of video games he worked on, the number of Guinness World Records he earned, being the creator of the sound effect at the heart of his Roblox legal dispute, and being the first American to work on the Sonic the Hedgehog franchise-and concluded many were either gross exaggerations or knowingly false.[11][46][47] "
Update: i saw on twitter a post from like, 2021 where a james bond fan account tweeted about the soundtrack to a james bond videogame. They specifically mentioned Tallerico studios. Tommy retweeted it saying “it was so fun to make this!” I went to IMDB for that specific game, and youll never guess in one billion years whose name was on the credit list for sound design It was JOEY
WAIT would this have anything to do with that one time Dylan Mulvaney posted on Instagram with the James Bond theme and the audio is credited to Tommy Tallarico?!
So just an update since its been over a year since this video has been live: Tommy has been M.I.A ever since this dropped. Literally. Not a tweet. Not an interview. Nothing. Complete silence. Gone with the wind. Absolute insane levels of dissappearance. Anyways, congratulations on this massive W, HBG! EDIT: Its been recently revealed he has spent the last two years playing Backgammon. After his father's passing he devoted most of his time into Backgammon and recently won the Intermediate Championship in Monte Carlo.
He repeated the "My mother's very proud" line so much that I legit thought there was gonna be a reveal that his mother actually hates him or something lmao
I joke that he's cursed to say it every time he lies in exchange for nobody doing the basic research to disprove him. He's a warlock giving thanks to his patron- er, matron. (No shade on his mother irl, I don't know enough about her to judge, just- the repetition of that exact wording after primarily that particular lie does make me wonder if there's some nonmagical but still mental connection)
I don't know how many times I've watched this video, but I just realized something. If Tommy were to extend his loose qualifications for "games he has worked on" to include any game with his sound effects, then he could claim that he has worked on millions of Roblox games.
I'm guessing that Tommy insists on referencing his "7 foot waterfall" in every interview because the waterfall is actually 6 feet and he's hoping people will think he's tall standing next to it.
It would be really interesting if Miyamoto and Tommy had a lot of deep, meaningful interactions during the development of Metroid Prime, especially since Miyamoto doesn’t really speak English at all, and Tommy doesn’t seem to speak Japanese.
Tommy just kept assuming they were deep and meaningful when really Miyamoto was saying: “When will you go away, dumb American.” And similar words to that effect.
Tommy invented Japanese actually. The Japanese people used to speak English until Tommy became the first American to ever visit Japan, and they were like “just make a bunch of sounds for us and we’ll attribute meaning to them and make that our language”. He actually holds the Guinness world record for bestest language ever created.
It's so cringe listening to him try to invent a conversation between him and Miyamoto. "Like 'oh man, I really love all your Mario stuff', and he'd say 'oh man, I really love all - all your stuff ... that you do..." What stuff? Tell us, Tommy. Tell us specifically what things you did that Miyamoto would be aware of.
His mom is very proud that your mom is very proud. It gives her very proud feelings knowing that your mom ( who he is going to start claiming as his other mom as a result ) is proud that you ( him ) added a comment to this video and contributed ( and ended up making the video possible with this contribution )
you have contributed nothing of value to this video... heres $100,000,000 for all that effort though (also you now have the right to sell some t shirts with this videos title on it)
By commenting on this comment, I helped create you who created this comment and in turn, this video. I am so proud of you my child and I will happily subscribe to this channel that you definitely made on your own with no help at all.
"It only takes one person to hit "save" on a file, and that's the one thing you know Joey did." I'm imagining Tommy and Joey, one's hand entwined with the other's, slowly and sensually moving the mouse across the mouse pad, as "(I've Had) The Time of My Life" plays.
The whole description Tommy gives of him creating the sound "with" Joey brings to mind the image of Tommy, overbearing boss, looking over Joey's shoulder and micromanaging his creative process as he tries to do his job.
That sad little self-own gets me every fucking time. The minute pause, the almost imperceptible stumble, and all he can come up with is “the… stuff you do”. It’s painful.
When Tommy says "I Don't Lose" I'm just reminded of that kid at school who would never lose whatever game you played because they would always change the rules slightly every time to suit them.
"He even was on a British TV show where the presenter clearly hates his house" Me: "oh so he makes subtle backhanded compliments" Presenter: "This is absolutely hideous"
less than a month ago tommy was on stream at a backgammon tournament after winning a mid level side event claiming to have learned the game with his dying father in the past few years and becoming a good player very quickly. tommy has had an account on the american backgammon website that he logs into daily for almost 15 years. he's mentioned multiple times that he's a lifelong backgammon player. tommy might actually be a pathological liar
In the AtariAge forums he also said, 4 years ago, in addition to what you said, he also entered tournaments and won a few times in his class and nationally ranked at one point. He also claimed to be taught by one of the greatest modern players (Nack Ballard) but that could also be a lie. You can see for yourself on page 716 on the Amico mega thread. The "AmicoAge" Neocities website mirrored the web pages since the original was taken down.
I was in the choir for one of the VGL concerts. Each choir was contracted in the city where the show was playing. I distinctly remember him telling the audience that the choir had spent MONTHS learning the Russian words to the Tetris theme when 1. we had never spoken to him about it and 2. we spent maybe three rehearsals learning all the music because none of it was hard
@@mediabreakdown8963 Sorry, I wasn't clear! I do believe the choir association was paid but the singers personally did not see any money, as things like that go towards subsidizing our membership.
Rewatching this video a year later and finally thinking 'Tommy's a rich guy, he can afford to hang his pre-framed Guinness World Record certificates up on a wall, so what is happening?' and then realizing 'ohhhhhhh, he staggers them on the floor because if he hung them you could easily tell there were duplicates!'
I was thinking this exact thing while watching this! The way he shows them off is terrible - it's difficult to clean around without damaging them, they're more likely to get tripped on, it's really hard to show them off - but it's the only way to preserve his ego
I imagine it would have been funny once, like 20-25 years ago when Video Games were still seen as this whole "For Kids, waste of time" thing and not a real job that makes serious amounts of money. You could tell someone you're an audio engineer and music producer for VIDEO GAMES at a time when the only actual publicly well known audio producers were likely Dr. Dre and Nile Rodgers, with the face of the music being the artist instead of the producer being the big name like back in the 50s and 60s, and it would have been an embarrassing admission to some and brought questions of how much money there is in making sounds for kids' games. If you follow up the "yes I make sound for games" with "and yes my mother is very proud that I work on this waste of time aimed at kids" seems like it would illicit a laugh as a self burn from those who share that view that games were stupid.
Oh boy, so he forgot about the context that made his joke work in the first place and just get repeating it after said context became irrelevant... @@Whiteythereaper
@@Whiteythereaperyeah it’s wild to be making a “games are stupid” to people who care so much about video game production that they care what this absolute nobody has done and has to say solely because he’s seen as a video game production icon. Who do you think you’re talking to, Tommy?
My theory about this (and the "the waterfall makes me have to pee" line) is that Tommy believes that if he tells a story, or says a lie, the exact same way every time, it makes it more believable
I promise you that SOMEONE ELSE heard him talk about his "record" and then said 'your mother must be very proud lol' and Tommy uses it every time he can in an attempt to make it seem like his own joke
A few days ago, it was discovered that Tommy Tallarico's work on Sonic and the Black Knight is 100% stolen. He’s namely credited for the songs, "The Cauldron," which is a rearrangement of the 10th track in the ost for the PC game, Adrenix, "Molten Mine," which is a rearrangement of the song "Action Theme" from the ost for the PS1/SEGA Saturn game, Black Dawn, and "Great Megalith," which is a rearrangement of the 6th track in the ost for the same game. All three of these songs were composed by Todd Dennis, who worked at Tommy Tallarico studios when composing for those games. Tommy was credited as the composer for all three of these songs, with the arrangements coming from Sonic Team veteran, Jun Senoue. Tommy Tallarico had no part in creating any of the music for Sonic and the Black Knight. His studio owns the music that was arranged into these three songs, so thankfully it’s not an instance of plagiarism, but it's another example of Tommy Tallarico claiming credit for something he didn't do. He didn't just claim to be the first American to work on Sonic despite only working on Black Knight, he claimed this despite never working on Black Knight, or any Sonic game, at all.
@@samuelbarber6177 Or if he has a mother. Or if he uses a bathroom. Or if Tommy wants money. Or if he's the first ever American. You can't trust anything he says anymore.

It's so fun rewatching this and picking up on the forshadowing bits. Harry saying "He even was on MTV Cribs" while knowing what will happen 2 hours into the video, is so cynical. I love it
Hey, I am someone who habitually and impusively lies to make things sound more interesting than they are when i tell stories. The vast majority of my close friends have has multiple times where I've had to text them and apologize for just making things up mid story without warning or even noticing myself, often weeks after the fact. Watching Tommy talk *distinctly* feels like watching any time I end up with a recording of some bs i made up. I feel like he has just been doing it for so long without facing any negative consequences that it's festered and gotten more intense, to the point of criminality it seems(i want to give shoutouts to the one guy in my theatre class who openly and to my face just deadpanned and said "no you fucking didn't" and made me realize just how often i do that. Genuinely changed my life)
@@jessehammer123 There was a time in my life when I used to do this. Lied about all sorts of stupid shit, stuff no one would have cared about one way or the other. Lied so much that I'd lose track of what I told to who, and would sometimes forget what the truth actually was. As to why, I don't know that I could tell you, definitively. Social anxiety and insecurity would be the general direction I'd point, at least in my case. Eventually it came to a head (as these things often do) when an elaborate series of lies was rudely interrupted by the reality of the situation. Luckily for me, it wasn't interesting enough for Hareton Splimby to make a two hour video about it.
That meme from a few years ago of "______ been real quiet since this dropped" Was made for this video. Tommy has been practically hiding underground in Antarctica since this video came out. Which is good, because there aren't any waterfalls in Antarctica, so at least he doesn't spend as much time in the bathroom anymore.
I can understand how much damage he might have done, but this story is so unreal so I kept thinking to myself that maybe he has some kind of untreated medical condition or something? The scale of lying is on such absurd level so it overwhelming. On the other hand he is not the first man on earth who behaves like that, isn’t he? Maybe there is an anthropological or social or biological reason for behaving like that? Like some Cuckoo bird laying their eggs in other species nests or something like that? I can’t understand that and try to find SOME KIND of rational explanation because I can’t wrap my head around this story and my mind can’t figure out how is that even possible.
@@hibye-ht1fr I don't know, seems like even without his lies he achieved a lot for my taste. He is a musician, a composer, performed with orchestra his music, his music was used in games, he worked with great people a (I hope) helped them in some way to achieve their goals and (I hope) helped to create great games people like. Without lies, he looks like a professional in a field and many companies should want to work with him like they want with other musicians, composers, etc etc. One of the first concerning things - is an extremely expensive house and a Ferrari (maybe rented for a video, maybe he had bought it). He created a level of life that is hard to maintain even if you are a high-paid professional. I don't know, some things just didn't sum up in my mind and don't fit in a "simple" explanation. And I know that some medical conditions exist, which can be psychological or physiological in nature. Maybe I am wrong, but I try to understand this for myself first, and I have no clear explanation and that is part of my own research of why people do injustice and "bad" things in the first place. For some reason I don't do this thing, I don't steal, but I know that there are people who do that, I don't harm other people, but I know that there are people who feel fine doing that and I try to understand what move people to do harmful things because I don't do it for some reason, so there must be a reason who some people do? Or we all should fall into nihilism and stop caring? I don't know =(
Fun fact, Antarctica has a five-story tall waterfall called Blood Falls due to the water being filled with iron oxide. I realize that this is somewhat beside the point, but I just think it’s a neat bit of trivia.
I like to imagine this video plays in its entirety in Tallarico's nightmares, only for him to wake up in cold sweat, having to go to the bathroom from the sound of his 7ft. piss fountain.
4:22 “It’s true! Google 40% cops” oohhh, I’ve never come across your channel before but I love this and now I think I love you. Gonna binge more of your vids just cause of that
He pays 20 lawyers but he cant pay a handyman to fix those fucking lights falling out of the ceiling? I've seen this video 10+ times and I still can't get over that.
He lied! You know it. I know it. A million dollar home and he can't afford to keep the thing maintained or clean. Not even for an interview. If he said that he knows 20 lawyers, like at this point I would think he was exaggerating the numbers still. But to imply he has 20 on retainer just to protect his IPs or whatever? Tommy lies about the stupidest shit.
There's one small thing that Tommy says that bothers me every time I watch this video. For background, I'm an attorney. He says he has about 20 attorneys working for him. I'm going to take an educated guess and say that he doesn't. He probably hired a law firm consisting of about 20 attorneys. That does not mean that all 20 of those attorneys are working on his case. Probably around 3 to 4 attorneys are working on it. Usually, you would only have 20 attorneys representing somebody if that somebody is a huge corporation and the law firm is a huge international one. Just a small, petty thing I noticed.
I'm going to be even more petty. I don't think Tallarico has any _personal_ lawyers on retainer. See, I think being the wealthy Old Money inheritance type he is, having barely worked a day in his entire life, he has instead relied on the work of others to nearly the entirety of his possible ability. Why hire a lawyer when he could have got pops to speak on his behalf? (2009, United States vs Tallarico 1:10-MJ-00479) or simply reuse the retainer that Tallarico Studios has to hand?
I have no professional or academic background in law and yet it's also the thing he says that bothers me most as well. Like, as XanthinZarda hints at above me, the way he says it makes it sound like he has at least 20 lawyers _on personal retainer,_ which might be more insane than all his other lies put together for, I mean, any number of reasons. Of course, while it _sounding_ like that doesn't mean he _meant_ it like that but, given everything else, I think I'm on pretty solid ground believing that that's, give or take, what he meant to imply.
I thought the “I have SO MANY attorneys, you guys!” was a weird flex, but I don’t know enough about the field to know whether it was plausibly true for a rich weirdo like Tommy, so thank you for the knowledge!
@@Pineappolis I wonder if he just means that as like a total of all the lawyers he's ever worked with or thought of working with. And he just thinks that because they exist in his mind they all exist in real life just as he sees them in his mind. Why wouldn't all the lawyers in the world be working for this guy who has a very, very, very proud mom? Surely that is the only reason anything exists, because of this one man!
I find it hilarious that the basis for Tommy's "records" was so weak, even just the simple process of Kat researching them inadvertently got one revoked. That is astounding
Okay, so Tommy has posted online recently and good lord he's at it again. So apparently he's been taking up backgammon since stepping down from Intellivision and is now doing it competitively (kind of). He went down to Monte Carlo and is now telling people he's the world champion. Unsurprisingly this is greatly exaggerated because his win was in the intermediate division so it's basically that TED Talk shit all over again.
It all makes a lot more sense if you assume that Tommy's memory is wiped each time he goes to sleep and he has to put together everything from context clues, each lie is just him trying to put everything together with no context
The first time you mentioned his website i visited it to check it out and it automatically plays his music as soon as you enter the site. I didn't realize the music was coming from his site and I left the tab open while watching this vid. I watched like 1.5 hours of this vid with his music looping in the background before I realized lmao. Anyways major cred to Tommy Tallarico for scoring this video. 351 credits now.
I did the same thing on my most recent rewatch, but this weirdly added to the watching experience, even though I was confused for a moment because I did not remember the music being there. It wouldn't be surprising if Joey Kuras also composed the website music and Thomas The Tallarico Engine just claimed credit for it. You know, his mother is very proud!
I love the mental image of a guy in full plate armor traveling across America and planting Guinness Gamer Bibles wherever he goes like some sort of bizarro Johnny Appleseed.
The consistency is that he evolved it from "My uncle works at Nintendo" to "I work for Nintendo" to even "I single-handedly build and created Nintendo."
@@yashanaku12 And every one of its games was my idea from the ground up. I conceived of the Mario franchise and designed every Pokémon except the ones you don't like
1:47:55 Why the hell is Tommy crediting himself as Tommy V. Tallarico when we can see on court documents at 1:37:06 that his middle name is Andrew? Is Tommy claiming that his middle name is "Videogames"?
You have to remember that back in the day game companies wanted to keep their talent anonymous. After Warren, Jeff and I created Q*bert we were interviewed by game magazines. Gottlieb (owned by Columbia Pictures at that time) insisted that we use pseudonyms instead of our real names. Warren was D'ziner, Jeff was R'tiste and I was J Walkman. There were no credits on the game at that time, I was DDT in the default high score table. This situation fueled my dissatisfaction with my employee status and I left 12 months later. And trust me there was very little that a musician could do for a video game in the period of 1975- 1980. The technology was marginally there. Most of the cutting edge sound work was in Japan and Chicago (pinball). More evidence that Mr. T is telling porkies.
Oh wow, I opened this video randomly despite watching it months ago, only to discover this tiny piece of history in the comments! That's super interesting, thanks for your input! I hope hbomberguy gets to read what you said
What's especially funny about his supposed Miyamoto anecdote is that it sounds like the exact opposite of Miyamoto's personality and management style. Every other story anyone else has told about Miyamoto mentions how particular he is, especially when it comes to game design. He prioritizes gameplay above all else. There is no way in frozen hell that Miyamoto would have aspects of the gameplay be determined by the sound effects alone.
That and Miyamoto's management style seems to be to walk in, give cryptic advice and suggestions, walk away, and let the team figure out what he was trying to say.
Just found out HE DIDNT EVEN DO THE MUSIC FOR SONIC AND THE BLACK KNIGHT. Somebody who worked for him made the three songs, FOR A GAME THAT CAME OUT YEARS BEFORE apparently. So he just licensed the music to Sega, he didn’t compose anything directly FOR the Sonic franchise. TOMMY. GET THERAPY. PLEASE.
You know the coolest thing Joey Kuras did was not publicly coming out and saying "Hey no I made that". Because he doesn't care about clout. He puts what he works on in his official resume for potential employers and corrects people about mislabeling work he was officially credited for on the packaging. He isn't out here trying to look cool, he's just doing his job well and extremely professionally. Actual chad.
The entire video is fantastic and funny but the one thing that I keep laughing at about Tommy is his description of his interaction with Miyamoto. "Oh man I really love all your....Mario stuff!" "Oh man, I love all your....your STUFF!" is definitely an interaction that took place between two real humans who knew each other.
You'd think he'd have scripts pre-prepared and memorised for all these stories by now, but instead: "What Sonic game did you work on? Uhhhh.... one of them". "How long did you work on Prime for? Uhhhh... I wanna say like maybe five years?" "How many Guinness Records do you have? Uhhhh, about three. No, four! No, SEVEN!" He's the most unconvincing liar I've ever heard.
I don't think it's that unbelievable as a paraphrased conversation. _If_ Tommy met Miyamoto, Miyamoto would have known that Tommy worked in the industry but may not have known/been familiar with what exactly he worked on. So this could just be him politely responding to a compliment with something generic like "I was impressed with your work too." (Having said that, I'm still leaning towards this meeting never happened.)
@@kaspianepps7946 honestly if this really was a conversation him and miyamoto had that would make his lie 10x funnier it's like "hello mr miyamoto you make good mario games" "hello mr tallarico you're a great worker too" "GUYS *THE* SHIGERU MIYAMOTO NOTICED ME!!! I TOLD HIM I LIKE HIS MARIO STUFF AND HE TOLD ME HE LOVES *MY* um uhh STUFF TOO!!!!"
I've watched this video many times and it's always so funny to hear his last name, cause 'talarico' in Brasil is slang for people that steal/get involved with their friend's s/o. I wonder if his mother is proud of that
The reason Tommy gave Melee a 2.5 is because he lost to Miyamoto play-testing it while he and Miyamoto worked hand-in-hand on Metroid Prime. Losing in Smash for 5 years has gotta be rough.
About halfway through, I was so ready to write anything Tommy said off as a lie, that when the joke of "My mum is very proud" came up repeatedly, I was almost convinced it was setting up the reveal that Tommy doesn't have a mother
It turns out that Tommy did not make any of the music in Black Knight, even. He composed 0 songs in Sonic and the Black Knight. The song used is an arrangement of a prior-existing 1998 song by Tony Dennis. "The Cauldron" is an arrangement of a song from the 1998 game "Adrenix" for PC. Tommy took credit because Tony Dennis WORKED at TTS.
Once an H-Bomb video starts I rapidly move toward my computer knowing I only have approx 15 seconds to find another video because 15 seconds is all it takes for him to hook me into watching one of his 4hr marathon videos that i've already seen 100 times :P

1:47:31 He even gives a throwaway joke saying he "plagiarized" two authors for this section of the video, and credits them very directly. He felt awkward about how much he leaned on their work in 10ish minutes of a nearly 2 hour long smear peice that he felt the need to make a self-deprecating joke. THAT is the level of difference in respect he has for his media/journalistic peers and his own ethics compared to the people he's covering
What really gets me about this whole part at 39:56 is that at the end of the day Tommy owns the sound. He has the rights to it, he can demand money, in the grand scheme of things it is his. There is literally no reason for him to lie about who did the actual physical act of making the sound. It wouldn't impact his demands to Roblox. The only reason he has to lie about this is vanity.
Yeah it’s literally just to try and earn the respect of teenagers and children who’s primary concept of ownership is “I made it”, it’s to make the argument sound more compelling to who he knows are the only people outside of Roblox’s lawyers who truly care about what he’s asking for. Imagine being this desperate for your legacy to be “oof”
1:24:47 It's so weird how Tommy's chosen lie is: "We never reviewed smash bros." and not like: "I thought I rated it higher." or "It was scripted to say 'give it a low score'."
Pathological liars tend to do that. The lies just get bigger and bigger. It sounds like he heard that before and needed to lie about it previously so what we heard was probably the fourth or fifth version of the lie. The thing is with them, people hardly ever call them out about their lies on the spot so they think they can get away with more and more outlandish versions of the lie. I actually think these people need some kind of mental health help. They’re unhappy with themselves and want/need people to think they’re better than they are. Obviously that isn’t healthy.
I can't remember the full thing, but that's basically the very first line in something called "the narcissists' prayer" "I didn't do that, but if I did, it was justified"
Or he could just be cool and say “I changed my mind. It grew on me, I just needed more time to play it”. Admitting wrongdoing and saying that they only had a short time to review the content would make ppl give him a bit of slack.
You fake it till you make it. But the issue with Tommy is he *MADE* it, and then he kept faking it. He is, for all intents and purposes, a good musician. He did legitimately made music that was part of many people's childhood (let's not ignore that). He did not know to quit when he's ahead, got addicted to fame and ultimately he fell flat when his lies outdo his talents.
Yeah, on paper the dude was basically living every 12 year old boy's dream. Dude got paid a lot of money to work in video games and pretend he's a rock star and had a room full of Spider-Man stuff. Just take the win dude.
to be fair, the Dalai Lama got suckered into working with NXIVM. i know the Tommy version was bullshit, but we may be giving the Dalai Lama too much credit regardless
The way Tommy repeats his frequent lies word-for-word is actually really common amongst pathological liars. The word-for-word construction of the lie becomes the way they remember the lie so they can keep as consistent as possible.
As somebody who used to be a bit of a compulsive liar in high school, this is absolutely true. It becomes like a comedy bit - something you say in a very specific and engineered way to get a reaction. It was genuinely quite horrible in retrospect, not only for my friends, but to my own health too, but that tiny bit of dopamine I got whenever somebody believed my lies seemed absolutely worth it even through all the stress and effort of keeping up the lie. I can’t imagine how horrible it must be to think that your pathological lying could make or save you millions like Tommy must do - it would make even the nicest guys into absolute arseholes.
For me, the funniest part is still one where he thinks he invented a clever life hack, when in fact he confesses to a well-known kind of money laundering right in front of the feds. *Falsely confesses.*
At some point in the video, Tommy's lies get so absurd that you have to wonder if lying for literally no reason is his true passion in life, far exceeding his work on video games
@@Bighomie39 it's crazy because lying got him in even more trouble than if he had just told the truth. He cannot physically stop himself from lying. I choose to believe every time he stutters and looks away from the camera right before he tells a lie, it's him fighting the urge and losing
@@Bighomie39 Lying for no reason, or for such miniscule gains in reputation that it's essentially worthless, was how everyone became aware of the 2-3 known pathological liars I went to school with. Even 30 years later I still remember how a new guy in my friend group said he was hanging out with a guy we both knew when I called him and asked what he was doing - a guy who happened to be standing right next to me when I made the call. It almost made me offended that he would lie about something so mundane, and with such a high risk of being found out. Like, at least claim that you were somehow on a date with one of the hot girls none of us dared to talk to back then if you're gonna lie! I wouldn't have believed that either, but at least it would have been difficult to fact check.
Ive watched this video enough times to give hbomberguy an entire 2/3 of a penny single handedly, ive successfully helped to launch this video into the stratosphere and i think i deserve all profits made by the video
The fact that the takedown of Guinness as a legitimate records company (and the subsequent eradication of one of Tommy Tallarico's supposed records!) is basically a minor aside in this 2-hour-long biopic just cements it as one of the most rewatchable video essays/full-on documentaries on TH-cam. Well done, Kat! If we've learned anything from this, it's that you did all of the work!

To be fair, I don't believe that Tommy asked Roblox for $100 million. Not because I have any faith in Tommy being reasonable, but because that would mean the jackals at Roblox actually offered him $1 million, and I just don't believe that for a second.
That Roblox wanted to underpay him is probably the only believable thing about that story, but at this point Tommy could tell me the sky is blue and I would need to check
That was literally his plan. Thankfully, the Amico has no path to manufacturing and is missing enough certifications to make a milk carton missing kid blush.
Oh yeah, he claimed he would be the game designer for every game on the Amico (that was a lie) and that he would write music and produce sound effects for every game (he didn't).
No... literally. Notice how list of games he worked on has expanded by like 40 entries while working on Amico? Because he would've been in their credits once they release.
38:00 an indication of the fact that dear Tomas tallarico is lying is simply the fact that he even remembers making one small sound effect of many in a game.
Hi Hbomberguy! I’m sure you’ve probably seen this by now, but the video of the terminator sega cd visions video now says composed by Joey Kuras! I thought you would like to know so you can confirm that with you making these videos, you are absolutely having a positive effect on the gaming community as a whole. Love your stuff, and can’t wait for your next yearly upload!
Still waiting for a follow up. There are so many factual errors present in this video that were discovered afterwards. Tommy did not compose Earthworm Jim, nor MDK, nor Advent Rising. His contributions to Sonic & The Black Knight were just old songs from the PS1 game Black Dawn, and were composed by Todd Denis. He was not a "fairly successful composer". He never actually composed anything save maybe one or two games. The guy has spent his entire career as a professional conman, making other people do all the work and then taking all the credit, and of course profiting massively. Same with Video Games Live: Make money using other people's compositions and talent, while air-guitaring to a backing track. The guy is an absolute sham top to bottom.
Even if there are such errors (which wouldn’t be discovered without this vid uploaded in the first place) it does get your main point across - that Tommy lied about EVERYTHING
I sent this to my dad, who is a MASSIVE history buff and has always hammered into my head the importance of art being how we’re remembered. He grew up under my grandfather who was a consummate con artist, and my dad LITERALLY MADE A CAREER IN THE MILITARY out of picking out lies and finding the facts behind them, and he couldn’t even get 45 minutes in (ie, 15 minutes into the deep dive) before giving up just because of just. HOW MUCH and HOW MANY Tommy’s lies are. ETA: it was actually 45 minutes, not 40, so I corrected this. His exact words were “I managed to make it to 45 minutes before my head exploded and I died.”
The lies…. There’s SO MANY LIES… I empathise with your dad, I’ve had to skip the parts where Tommy is saying the same lie for the third time just to avoid dying of pure cringe….
This video has insane rewatchability because tommy lied about so many things I don’t remember most of them and they’re a surprise on second and third time watches lmao
Having had a breakthrough today, I can't be the only one who sort of sympathises with Tommy, stolen credit notwithstanding. Guy’s a massive liar, of course, but why? One commenter noted that a lot of his achievements seem very much real, and that that *still* wasn’t enough for a guy parking his literal Ferrari in a literal mansion. But honestly, I don’t think I would’ve fared much better than him in his position. I’ve done a lot of creative work in various formats, one of my games has its own fan Discord where I’m basically a superstar, and yet I still struggle with a self-concept that I’m a loser with nothing to like about me. Now I catch myself pining for the “cool famous Internet creator guy” tier, and that’s where Etika was when the pain killed him. As such, I can completely picture that however much Tommy achieved, this hollow pain kept moving the goalposts behind his back, blinding him to his value, making him feel like a failure again. There’s a painful irony in impostor syndrome creating an actual impostor. I also wouldn’t be surprised if, for his actual achievements, he’d had to lie his way into a position where he *could* start working for them at all. That’s not a mark against him, it’s literally how you get a job. In that context, his recurring “my mother’s very proud” rings like a dark echo of hurt. It actually brings to mind "Jimmy" in "Money Game Pt. 3."
You know, Tommy could have avoided a lot of this by changing the self credit ever so slightly. "I built a huge game sound and music studio. Tallarico studios is responsible for some of the biggest game sounds in history, like Tony Hawk's sound effects and the famous Oof! My boy Joey Kuras is one of the most prolific sound designers in game history, and he came out of my studio!" That alone would give proper credit while maintaining Tommy's delusions of importance.
The saddest part of this story is just looking at the stuff that we 100% know about Tommy that's true, he's lived a pretty cool life and had a really cool career. He actually has worked on a lot of game, he hosted a TV show, he's done symphony shows, and he made a ton of money will a house he loves. Yet he still feels the need to inflate his accomplishments, grift this console, and steal credit for even minor things. Could've just lived his life but he's gone out of his way to tank is reputation
It's like Barry Bonds. Before the steroids he was already a sure-thing hall of famer. But he had to have more, got it the wrong way, and now everyone looks down at him. Really sad
Now the real question is : how many of his real achievements did he get without lying ? And is he a pathological liar who doesn't even realize what he does, or a greedy asshole with an oversized ego trying to scam people ?
@@JoelBergerPhD Ehhhh, it's slight exageration to say before the steroids he was a SURE-THING hall of famer. On his way for sure, I just don't know if his career ended then he would be 100% guaranteed to get in, The BBWA is a trashfire after all. But that's obviously quibbling on minor verbiage. Actually, forget that, I looked up when he started and then rechecked his stats. You were right. I had made assumptions based on a much earlier start to steroids. I also kinda forgot he already had 3 MVPs. I was young in the early 90s.
Honestly, Tommy could've lived his life as just a well respected video games musician had he not lied about literally everything. Like, I'm not even saying he should be a saint or anything, but if he were just honest and truthful, the worst thing he could ever be known for was for giving Melee a 2.5, which is something he could've owned up to and probably merchandised. Instead he lied about it ever existing, he lied about making the OOF, he took credit for everything his coworker ever made, and now he's being exposed for fraud. It really isn't that hard to just not lie, but if I had to guess, Tommy's got issues.
That's the crushing low self-esteem. No matter what he's done, he sees himself as not enough, so he can't help always building on the lie. It's how he went from not being on Cribs, to "yeah I was" to "a couple of times" and you can see in his face that he knows it's a lie. It's one of the few times where he's visibly aware and ashamed of what he's saying. He pauses before saying it because he knows how ridiculous it is but he can't help himself.
That's what gets me too. There are things that he *has* legitimately accomplished and can be proud of: owning a moderately successful video game sound studio, being a prolific composer in his own right, and forming an orchestra specifically for video game music is a really cool idea. There is no reason *at all* for the *extent* of things that he has made up about himself. The fake Guinness World Records and repurposed house tour footage were sad, but the claiming of credit for others' work and lying about who was employed at his company were straight-up vile.
@@chubomikz7104 the problem is, he probably got there by lying. Lying about his capabilities, job history, resources, contacts. Its likely he escaped consequences early by legitimately being talented enough to cover for the fact that he lied, but that couldn't last forever.
Yup, up until about 2018 everyone simply accepted what he'd put out into the world. Some folks behind the scenes had some horror stories but otherwise his own mythmaking had worked. Then the Amico happened (this video barely scraped the surface about how deep of a scam that thing was, it's worthy of a 2 hour video in it's own right), the OOF thing and his story came crashing down. Now, from what I understand, he might actually be in a some financial trouble since he's been found out to be auctioning off some of that memorabilia from his house recently. On top of that, his reputation is irrevocably damaged which I imagine isn't going to help his Video Games Live shows which he's back to doing after stepping away from the Amico debacle.
I was honestly surprised that didn't come up. That and "Tommy V. Tallarico" -- I was half expecting a "by the way, we checked and his middle name is Kevin."
If anyone is coming back to this video, hi, and I found an interview where Tommy says he’s good friends with Stan Lee. I guess they hung out together with Shigeru Miyamoto and Jamie Lee Curtis to talk about Micheal Jackson’s work on Sonic 3.

Tommy Tallarico is literally the Butch Hartman of video games. Huge ego, lying about or exaggerating his role in the industry, a failed crowdfunding campaign, the list goes on.
Beyond the "My mother is very proud" regurgitated line, one I'd always hear from Tommy Tallarico in interviews is when he refers to someone, ANYBODY (a celebrity, a game industry person) as "a good buddy of mine". I would love to see a supercut of that someday.
There isn't a supercut but I think "A selection of people Tommy has claimed to be close friends with" from r/Intellivision_Amico will set you down a path of madness.
I have never wanted to be famous, however in this moment if I had the ability I would take a glossy headshot of Tommy to every "good friend" and ask "who is this man? Do you know him?" Because I guarantee you they would not
There's a good chance this video is more well-known than Tommy was before it was uploaded. In a fitting kind of retribution, Tommy has been introduced to many as a (highly probable) liar rather than as an inhumanly accomplished game composer.
@@EmperorSpectro Its tragic really, Tommy was really a very successful person who contributed to many projects and ventures, a career most would inspire to have. The only feasible conclusion is that his mother is actually proud of Joey Kuras
nice of tommy to notice this oopsie he used to do

Tommy's Batman villain origin is that his mother always preferred Joey over him.
That's the only reasonable conclusion. After watching the video, I'm also proud of Joey Kuras.

HIS MOTHER MAY BE PROUD, BUT MIYAMOTO DEFINITELY WASNT
He did this time-twisting shit a lot when promoting the Intellivision Amico. Every time he talked of Intellivision of the early 80's, he always says "we" like he was with the company originally. Intellivision wasn't even a company back then- it was the product made by Mattel. Tommy was pretending he was involved when he was 10-11 years old.

Both Dennis and Senoue are incredible composers, so check out the comparison for yourself
Black Dawn - Action Theme -> Molten Mine
Black Dawn - Track 6 -> Great Megalith
Adrenix - Track 10 -> The Cauldron
It also seems that the Black Dawn Action Theme is used in the game Knockout Kings 2000 in the training mode. That game simply credits Audio to Tommy Tallarico Studios with Joey Kuras as Sound Designer. No mention of Todd.

That makes so much sense
Oh, that's brilliant.
That's a little too good for a guess.
It would be really interesting if Miyamoto and Tommy had a lot of deep, meaningful interactions during the development of Metroid Prime, especially since Miyamoto doesn’t really speak English at all, and Tommy doesn’t seem to speak Japanese.
Tommy actually composed his English into music in such a way it became a universal language or something.
Tommy just kept assuming they were deep and meaningful when really Miyamoto was saying: “When will you go away, dumb American.” And similar words to that effect.
They had a Disney’s Pocahontas style epiphany and could suddenly understand each other perfectly, you just don’t get how good at sound design Tommy is
Tommy invented Japanese actually.
"Like 'oh man, I really love all your Mario stuff', and he'd say 'oh man, I really love all - all your stuff ... that you do..."
What stuff? Tell us, Tommy. Tell us specifically what things you did that Miyamoto would be aware of.

I promise you the “My mother’s very proud” line got a laugh once decades ago and he’s been chasing that high ever since.

At this point I’m starting to doubt whether he ever worked on any video-games whatsoever. Or even that his name is Tommy.

As to why, I don't know that I could tell you, definitively. Social anxiety and insecurity would be the general direction I'd point, at least in my case.

Without lies, he looks like a professional in a field and many companies should want to work with him like they want with other musicians, composers, etc etc.
One of the first concerning things - is an extremely expensive house and a Ferrari (maybe rented for a video, maybe he had bought it). He created a level of life that is hard to maintain even if you are a high-paid professional. I don't know, some things just didn't sum up in my mind and don't fit in a "simple" explanation. And I know that some medical conditions exist, which can be psychological or physiological in nature. For some reason I don't do this thing, I don't steal, but I know that there are people who do that, I don't harm other people, but I know that there are people who feel fine doing that and I try to understand what move people to do harmful things because I don't do it for some reason, so there must be a reason who some people do?

Nice to see you here Jack!
I think the truth is he pays money to a law firm that employs many lawyers.
Or he could be doing an Alex Jones and has just gone through that many attornies

The only reason he has to lie about this is vanity.
capitalism sucks
True. And now Roblox removed the sound, so the fans lost an iconic Roblox symbol, and Tommy gets nothing. Nobody wins. Well done Tommy.
Yeah it’s literally just to try and earn the respect of teenagers and children who’s primary concept of ownership is “I made it”, it’s to make the argument sound more compelling to who he knows are the only people outside of Roblox’s lawyers who truly care about what he’s asking for.
I can't remember the full thing, but that's basically the very first line in something called "the narcissists' prayer"
"I didn't do that, but if I did, it was justified"
Or he could just be cool and say “I changed my mind. It grew on me, I just needed more time to play it”.
Admitting wrongdoing and saying that they only had a short time to review the content would make ppl give him a bit of slack.
You fake it till you make it. But the issue with Tommy is he *MADE* it, and then he kept faking it.

As somebody who used to be a bit of a compulsive liar in high school, this is absolutely true. It was genuinely quite horrible in retrospect, not only for my friends, but to my own health too, but that tiny bit of dopamine I got whenever somebody believed my lies seemed absolutely worth it even through all the stress and effort of keeping up the lie.

If the Amico becomes an actual thing, every game available for the console will be added to Tommy’s list of games he’s worked on.
That was literally his plan. Thankfully, the Amico has no path to manufacturing and is missing enough certifications to make a milk carton missing kid blush.

Wow. That's horrid.
Tommy wanted us to think he was the Thomas Edison of video game music, but it turns out he's actually the Thomas Edison of video game music

This is my 5th time back and I’m still getting surprised 🤣
@@lecapitaineisonyoutoob Subsequent investigation has shown most of those "actual achievements" are also bullshit.
I think the issue is a lot of the successful career probably stems from that exploitation and stolen credit
Hulk Hogan also told these kinds of tall tales.
... still does, certainly is still alive last I checked.
It sounds like he's a pathological liar that's just scrambling to keep up with the shit he makes up
That's what gets me too.
Fun fact - Tommy doesn't even have a mother. Joey created him... it's always Joey...
