  • EXPLORING KADIKOY AND THE ASIAN SIDE 🇹🇷 A DIFFERENT SIDE OF ISTANBUL TURKEY
    We headed over to the Asian side of Istanbul and explored the Kadikoy neighbourhood. We explored the Moda area before grabbing some traditional Turkish food for lunch. We then headed to an amazing shopping centre before watching the sunset up at the Camlica Mosque.

    Hi guys! I'm a British expat living in Moda so I enjoyed seeing your impressions of Kadıköy which has become my home town. I had to link my HES code (issued by the Ministry of Health) to my İstanbulkart to get it reactivated last year. Did the official ask you for a code and/or covid status before activating your cards?

      @AshandKels  2 ปีที่แล้ว +7

      We had to show our health forms at the information desk and the guy did it for us! We’re on a bus to Izmir today and again the bus company asked for our HES code and we showed the health form ☺️

    Don't forget to try Lahmacun as well, with squeezed lemon - it's a must
    & also literally everyones favourite Turkish food is "Iskender Doner" which is Doner (red meat) + Turkish bread on a plate with tomatoe sauce, yogurt & melted red pepper butter. Best place to try it is "Kebapci Iskender - İskenderoğlu ve Evlatları". The shop is owned by the descendents of the guy who literally invented the "Iskender Kebap" dish hundreds of years ago & therefore the name of the shop & the name of the dish are literally named after him, Iskender - which is his first name. The shop was created by Iskender & has been around for hundreds of years - they only sell one dish & this is it
    Alternatively, there are many good Iskender Doner in Izmir too

    The reason you need to activate the cards seperately is because they needs to be associated with your HES codes or passport number. This way, if you make contact with anyone carrying the virus, the government will be able to notify you (contact tracing). I believe the HES codes or passport needs to be verified by an actual human being

    • @AshandKels
      @AshandKels  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      We thought so, seems like a new thing as before you were able to share one card between a people I believe? It makes sense, was an easy process once we knew where to go!

    2:07 Actually you didn't have to activete it before covid. HES code came up after covid and it needs your passport info and stuff. So giving all that info to a ticket machine wouln't be safe. Turkish citizens can match their card with their ID from an app but i don't really know if tourists can do it on their own.
