Great day on BERKS & HANTS Line, its such a GREAT line for stone trains.

- Its becoming a yearly event when I meet Dave who does a lot of filming on this awesome B&H line, but I must try and go back later this year as this was my first full day out since my illness, and I wasn't fully fit.

All what you have said about that line Colin is right, but its a terrible shame if you look at photos when the Westerns and class 50s used that line all the time how the scenic shots have now gone as everything is so overgrown.

In a word...BRILLIANT. I'd like to go back down there again one day with my camera.
A great line in a nice part of the country, but its not as good as it was when you went down there.

Looks like you had an excellent day out in Wilts there Mike!! Some great shots and locations as well as some decent sounds coming from the locos! Nice to see a double headed 66 there as well not too often that happens and the double 59 as well! Great to have a 60 thrown in the mix too

Another cracking spot there Mike, my word all the drivers were in good spirits, with plenty of great tones! As you say a great plsce for stone workings, love the 59's especially the 59/0's with the different headlight clusters. 602

Crikey, that's a good old load @4:00. Those wagons must gross over 100t each loaded, so that's a good three and a half thousand tonnes at least there

Why is it called the Berks and Hants line when it does NOT at any point go through Hampshire ?
Bit too complicated to explain here in detail but the line originally comprised of two routes built by the GWR. One from Reading to Hungerford and the other from Reading to Basingstoke. So one ran in Berkshire and the other into Hampshire. The Hungerford line was then extended to Devizes and Trowbridge with a shorter route from Patney to Westbury being built a while later. For some reason this line has had the Berks and Hants moniker ever since.
