- The march of the Lonach Highlanders through Strathdon in Aberdeenshire, Scotland, a historic part of the annual Lonach Gathering & Games. This film was prepared as part of the Virtual Gathering & Games for 2020.
The Highlanders, led by retired Police Officer James Mitchell on his bicycle, the Lonach Pipe Band and supporting Drum Majors from other bands, set off from the village of Bellabeg, stopping at significant properties for hospitality, a dram and stories, then cries of "Ho, ho, Lonach!" At the rear is Socks, the Lonach horse, ready to pick up any stragglers.
The Lonach Highlanders are all descendants from the Forbes, Wallace and Gordon clans, represented by the different tartans, who march with their weapons, including pikes and Lochaber axes. After the morning march through Strathdon, they gather at a hall for lunch and then march back to Bellabeg to enter the Highland Games arena.
My heritage is Scots...and it never fails that I get stirred listening to the skirl of the pipes and the bright snap of the snare drums and thumping bass drum.....I think its in our DNA....Thanks for the tartan pride, Dad!....

there was an old TV Western, entitled Sugarfoot, I think, where the lead character has relatives visiting from Scotland, and they kept (mis) pronouncing the name of your state as "Mitt-CHEE-gan. They had "Scottish "'bur-r-rs" (accents) and it was a running joke throughout the particular episode. (JUST AN IRRELVANT RAMBLING RECOLLECTION.)

I used to hate the pipes until a piper outside the Hollywood Bowl had me sit down next to him and just listen to the continual drone as he played then he played me a CD of pipers and also told me to listen to the bass and snare drummers which add greatness. nd now I love the pipes.
Yeah, you need to experience a massed pipe and drums. You can feel the reverberation in the air

In London the bands are escorted by the police on horseback in Scotland A Policeman on a bicycle!Love it
The Police man should be issued with a Police helmet with a Blue flashing light and red flashing glasses really.
In England we are already defunded down to one copper on a bike per every hundred square miles.
This tartan looks almost like my Keith (Austin) family tartan. I loved Scotland and it felt like I was at home there.

The bicycle escort was a very nice touch to this video. Noted only one lass (bagpiper) in the march...would be nice if "everyone" was included in this procession - might even double the size of march!
The Police Escort should be fitted with a Blue Light on his helmet, just saying.
