    There is a common issue with Hunter (and possibly other) ceiling fans. There is a government required regulator in the fan that malfunctions and causes the lights not to work. This video shows how to bypass this regulator.
    Disclaimer: I recommend you replace, not remove the regulator as it could cause a fire.

    Great explanation of the cause and the repair for this particular problem. Easy to follow and straight to the point. You didn't go into too much detail as to become boring. Thanks.

    I installed a new Hunter fan. The fan worked but not the lights. When I wired it differently, the lights worked but not the fan. This is a LED fan so there's no wattage regulator or receiver to bypass. Here's how I fixed it. Follow original instructions the fan. I had an additional red wire coming out of my ceiling. I used the RED ceiling wire INSTEAD of the BLACK ceiling wire to connect to the black receiver wire. Then I capped off the BLACK ceiling wire alone. Followed all other connecting instructions. After 10 hours of trial & error and speaking with Hunter directly, problem solved. Hunter thought it was a bad motor engine or bad receiver. Problem finally solved.

    Easier fix: clip the black, red, white wires at the wattage regulator, strip the black and red wires, use one wire nut to connect the black and red, use a second wire nut to cap the unstripped white. No need to fiddle with the other wire nuts or wires.

  • @HisGraceisGreater

    What if your wires are purple, pink, Grey and brown? Nog sure if the black box in my fan is the regulator or just part of the fan.

    When you say "higher wattage bulbs" (around 5:35), you're meaning incandescent that are higher than recommended by the documentation of the fan? LEDs, being much lower wattage, wouldnt cause a problem, correct?

    I’m hoping that someone in the know re electrical issues can help me please. I just had a friend hook up a fan/light kit for me and the fan works but the lights don’t. The original light fixture had a pull chain and no switch on the wall for it. The new fan/light system also has pull chains …
    Could it be that the lights won’t work without there being a main switch?

    Hard to see what you're doing with your hands in the way. Please tell me where does the red wire go? Not sure if you said they all go together or not. I can't get the lights to turn off!

    • @TightWadDIY
      @TightWadDIY  ปีที่แล้ว

      Sorry. The camera angle was really bad. The red wire was just for the regulator on mine and isn’t used once you remove the regulator. Basically you join the black wire from the switch directly to the cluster of other black wires. You then clip the white wire from the regulator, strip it, and add it to the cluster of white wires.

    • @royloporto5489
      @royloporto5489 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@TightWadDIY Thank you so much for replying back. I think we might have different Hunter Fans. I put the blacks altogether, including the red wire, because after I cut the 3 wires the red one was connected to the inside bottom of the pull chain that turns the light on or off. The white was in the cluster of the other whites, so I just capped that one off. (that might be something I am not doing right) I can get the lights and fan to power on and light up, only problem is the lights will not turn off from the pull chain. That is the only way to turn the lights on, no remote or wall switch.

    • @GrillThisSmokeThat
      @GrillThisSmokeThat ปีที่แล้ว

      @@royloporto5489 Do you have one black wire going to and coming from the switch on the fixture? That switch just opens or closes the circuit for the lights. It’s usually a black wire which can be confusing since there are so many. The other black wires typically go to each of the bulbs so they need to be connected to the wire coming FROM the switch.

      I can’t film it because these fans aren’t in my own home. However, there is a black capacitor that controls the fan that can go bad. If you can locate it, order a new one with the same numbers then cut it out and splice the wires to the new one.
