    Update Note on using Roon with the PM7000N:
    I do say in the film that the Roon interface eclipses the Heos control app, but you should also bear in mind that the PM7000N can be used over AirPlay 2 with Roon as a “Roon Tested” device. This means keeping sound quality to 16/44.1 ALAC (Apple Lossless Audio Codec) which Airplay 2 compresses all music too. So if you have a Roon Core server you’d be good to go with the PM7000N. Marantz are working on the PM7000N to be made “Roon Ready” for which higher quality streams would be available via Roon.

    I've had this amp since January and can't really fault its quality both in sound and build for the money. It is a one stop worry free option for great quality sound . As the reviewer says Heos app works fine. He forgot to add that it has Internet radio built in as well. Recommended

    I have this amp in my office setup hooked up to some hard-to-drive KEF LS50s and a REL subwoofer, and agree with your assessment of it completely - for $1000 in North America this amp is a killer of hifi pretensions. My main rig at home sports $5000 monoblocks, a $2000 preamp, a $5000 streamer/dac, a $500 ethernet switch/reclocker, $2000 of cables and power conditioning driving $6000 floorstanders sitting on $500 vibration isolation pads, and while I am NOT saying the Marantz sounds as good, it sounds close enough that I don't miss my main rig while I'm at work. Think about that. For 90% of the people who want something cheapish, great sounding AND convenient, this amp is a no-brainer. For example, it is less than half the $ of the NAD and NAIM all-in-ones! Traditional hifi will soon be on life-support if this amp is a sign of things to come imho, so I am also 100% agreeing with your choice of title for this review!

      Michael Mityok couldn’t agree more Michael. The measure of a good HiFi is how it tunes to musical enjoyment and there is more than one way to achieve that against ultra premium HiFi. Definitely not a HiFi snob therefore. I’m the same as I explained - £3500 speakers, £7k amps, £4k Mohican CD player atm, £7000 atc speakers a few weeks back I had. I’ve had amps before that are nowhere near this, a little more expensive and less wattage and quality. Cheers Simon

      Its really good to read positive comments such as yours above reference the Marantz PM7000N as I have been ready for a change within my own set up for over one year now. Going to get rid of my Arcam AVR600 and Arcam BDP300 player and have looked at all the well known products such as Bluesound, NAD M10/M33 and more and was prepared to spend around €5000 for a new system while keeping my Kef LS50 (even though I was looking at upgrading to Kef R3 but not sure if it would be a upgrade) This one box solution seems just perfect and if it drives my Kef LS50 even better then the Arcam then great. I have asked my local dealer to get this product in for me in silver and I cant wait to get it home and installed - great review, thank you.

    • @budgethometheaterandhifi
      @budgethometheaterandhifi ปีที่แล้ว

      @@ee123h9 Personally I am using a pair of Eosone RSF1000s. The amp is not extremely powerful (60 watts per channel), but it is 4 ohm stable so it will work well with most speakers. That being said, I think it is best suited for bookshelf-sized speakers (KEF, Monitor Audio, B&W, etc.) and larger speakers that have high sensitivity (above 90db).

    I have the Marantz NR1200. I use it as a preamp for 2.1 stereo within a 5.1 system which drives JBL L100t3 mains and JBL B380 sub. The sound is indeed detailed and crisp and Apple Music now sounds on par to SACD or even better. I’m inclined to think I like the Marantz over my Parasound P6.

    Tried Saturday, I will buy it today.
    I feel this may be a great gateway for someone who like to listen to music but scared about the costs, the space and the complexity that audiophile gear requires.
    While it may be a "little annoying" for the purists I guess this may be a great opportunity for an industry which is going to face hard times ahead against the tech giants.
    That's my 2 cents.
    Thank you for the review!

    • @13thnotehifireviews7
      @13thnotehifireviews7  4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Thank you. This amp is up there against some of the smaller niche brands at the price I’d say. Unsurprising because the giants have the bigger economies of scale and can do more for the cash. Also there is no messing around with apps and connectivity going tits up like you sometimes get with the smaller players. So I wouldn’t be thinking it doesn’t sit on audiophile street at a grand compared to an audiophile brands $1000 integrated. I was making the point it chips away at HiFi more expensive and hope that came across clear. I’ve owned audiophile brands like a Cyrus 6dac at around $1000 which are nowhere near as good as this for features, use, functionality. You’ve bought a gem!

    Thanks for a good review.
    Here comes something for you guys who is using Qobuz Streaming and like this Amp PM7000N but as HEOS App don't support Qobuz (which is a real bummer) you look for something else in spite loving the Marantz sound signature. I really do like the sound from this amplifier but not being able to use Qobuz is for me a showstopper. What happend I realized it is a UPnP streamer and it didn't say anything to me at first but after watching a John Darko YT video on subject of using BubbleUPnP app in your mobile to a UPnP streamer. So I loaded up the BubbleUPnP app to my phone and my Qobuz credentials. Then loading up the song to play and then by clicking on the casting symbols to choose a remote renderer and found the amplifier (which I believe was in operation the first time). Then amplifier founds the music and shows the song in the display and just plays the music. With the Heos app you control the volume and you are good to go to listen to your streming music now also from Qobuz. Yes it streams the high res 24 bit files from Qobuz via BubbleUPnP app.
    The only downside or querk is when you want to stop playing music you must use the BubbleUPnP app and not the HEOS app. What it does in the HEOS app it stops the music and seconds later start the next song.
    The cool thing is though, the amplifier from stand-by mode after choosing the song in the BubbleUPnP app fires up the amplifier and start playing in a few seconds.
    Remote control bye bye :-)

    • @13thnotehifireviews7
      @13thnotehifireviews7  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks for saying. Do you use other streaming services? I wouldn’t make it a showstopper if you do. I always advocate the quality of the amp and dac before the format, so long as you use Tidal HiFi quality and above. Most of what can be achieved in different amps and DACs makes up for hires or cd.

    Just as a take away from my other comments, if you are looking to match brands (amps, speakers), Marantz, Arcam and Monitor Audio really blends well, so worth a listen to, if you're on tne lookout:)
    You do need some good neutral sounding cables ( isoacoustics works really well ) as it can get a bit warm sounding. And added gaia feet myself which adds LOTS. But that's quite the investment to be honest.

    Thanks for the great review on this and the D11s. Coincidentally, I ordered the Marantz with D11 speakers (threw in a Powercube 2000 sub for good measure) at a local big box electronic store yesterday (before watching your reviews) after cycling through various speaker/amp combinations. The listening environment wasn’t the greatest, still, this combo stood out to me of the amps and bookshelf speakers I was considering and came close enough for my ear (and budget) when compared to a McIntosh 5300 I used as a reference. Your experience provides reassurance and has me looking forward all the more to hearing the system in my home. I was quite taken by some 9x expensive bookshelf speakers through a 3x more expensive amp at a local hi-fi shop. I’m trying to find a sweet spot between cost and performance for my small living space and am hopeful the Marantz + D11 combo lets me step away from a much larger purchase ;)

    Really good review!
    I like your style of presentation, not being hasty or otherwise overly swooshy. :) It´s a word, right?
    Regarding the theoretical limit of toslink: The connection is known in the pro audio world as ADAT and its normal mode is 8 channels at a maximum of 24 bit 48 kHz. Bump the SR to 96 kHz and the channel count goes down to 4. In hifi you really only need the 2 channels per cable, so 192 kHz is the normal top SR for stereo operation. If before you have encountered units with a limitation to 96 kHz, it has probably been because of converters chosen.

    You need to keep 'chipping away' at TH-cam: you definitely deserve more subs! I think owning Marantz gear is a rite of passage for us audiophiles.. Great sound to be had at sensible prices..
    Will you be reviewing the D11 and Neat speakers in the future? I used to own the D7s but I found the midrange to be a bit too recessed for my tastes so I moved them on.. However, the D11s are different beasts.. The Neat speakers look intriguing, too.
    Thanks for posting.

    • @13thnotehifireviews7
      @13thnotehifireviews7  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Anton Chigurgh thanks very much Anton as ever. My subs has gone up massively recently and I’m trying hard to do engaging videos as I hate these static videos of people still in front of the camera. I get bored easily. That’s my attitude as I want to spread the love of audio at all levels and we should do this I think. I realised the picture looks more dynamic putting key frames in when I’m talking to camera. Basically it’s on a tripod obviously and still, but I zoom the picture in slightly then add frames either side to make it appear the camera is hand held. Anyway giving away trade secrets....lol. I also do masking and blur transitions in the editing as I’m really enjoying the creative process of this as much as HiFi. Learning too. - I’d actually forgotten about my creative side. I think people have to be as much creative with video editing as into chosen field in doing TH-cam videos. Otherwise what’s the point?
      Interesting about d7’s. What do you have now Anton? D11’s? I’m favouring the neats. Not as full and big sounding as the DT’s but just something about them. Will explain fully in next film. Got a Hegel H120 integrated amp coming soon. Can’t wait...best wishes Simon

      @@13thnotehifireviews7 Simon, it's clearly evident that your production skills are improving! I thought exactly that when watching your last video..
      Re my speakers: I actually own a set of Tannoy XT8F which, on paper, are a huge downgrade when compared to my outgoing ATC SCM40s! However, I actually prefer the sound of the Tannoys. Admittedly they are a bit less 'hifi' but far more enjoyable to listen to. I found with the ATCs I was constantly seeking out well-recorded music because they were ruthless in exposing poor recordings. Sounds like a criticism but in some ways high praise: I owned them for over 3 years which speaks volumes..
      However, I have an urge to try a pair of Kef R7s or R11s when the finances allow! It's never-ending :)

    • @13thnotehifireviews7
      @13thnotehifireviews7  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Anton Chigurgh thanks for saying that. It does take days and days to do. Don’t play yourself down on the Tannoys though, although ATC’s are terrific . I listened to the 6 variety of your tannoy speakers and was taken aback as I’ve owned two sets of tannoys. One was quite embarrassing by today’s standards - I did buy them in 97 though - the mercury m3. I wanted kef coda 7 at the time, but I think they were too expensive. Had a cherry front panel, cost about £230 in the U.K., prob £400 now. Brother in law still has them. The speaker that got me on the audiophile journey about ten years ago was the tannoy dc6tse . Extremely dispersive with a Cyrus Audio amp I bought. I think what’s revealing about speakers (excuse pun) is how they’ve got so much better at price , as we go through the decades.

    Great review, I watched it three times already! I'm expecting to receive this Marantz in the next days and I will use it primarily as a stereo amp for my CD player and turntable and of course as a streamer. But I would like to connect it with my newly bought TCL TV as well. And here's a question. The amp's manual clearly states that connecting it with a source playing Dolby Atmos or DTS is not recommneded as it can cause distortion. Therefore I assume that using the optical input for the TV/Amp connection is to be avoided. Is that correct? Better just plug in RCA for audio from the TV set?

    • @ramondelgado6778

      use the optical output from the TV into the optical input on the PM7000N and tell the TV to output in "bitstream pcm" since the PM7000N is only a stereo (2 channel) integrated amplifier.

    The Marantz Nr1200 seems almost identical for $700 less. Is the price difference due to a better power supply in the 7000N?
    Although they're rated similar power with the cheaper Nr1200 actually listed with 15 more WPC into 8 Ohms

    First of all, excellent in depth review. I see the PM7000N is sometimes sold with Dali Oberon 5 f/s speakers or Monitor Audio Silver f/s speakers. My question is are these speakers well matched or would you recommend (bearing in mind my a budget of £1k for speakers) another brand. Can't afford the PMCs but what else would you recommend on a £1k speaker budget? Preferably floor standing, and would 4ohm be better?

    Hallo can anyone tell me please.
    I have a question regarding the Marantz pm7000n
    The output of my LG g7 phone via uapp is up to 24bit X 192khz
    I connect my phone to
    the pm7000n via cable because I use Qobuz and that's not in Heos.
    I use an RCA to 3.5mm cable adapter from the headphone jack to connect the RCA (red and white) end to one of the Audio inputs on the back of the PM7000n. That is under AUX settings.
    But I just found out
    from the user manual that
    THE DAC IS ONLY USED WHEN USING THE OPTICAL/ COAXIAL CONNECTIONS AND IT CAN ONLY REACH A MAXIMUM OF 192KHZ 24BITS BUT ONLY IF THE EXTERNAL SOURCE I HAVE CONNECTED INTO THE OPTICAL/ COAXIAL PORT IS CAPABLE OF 192KHZ 24 BIT.
    It doesn't mention phone audio connection
    IAM surprised that It says that
    THE DAC ONLY SWITCHES ON AND IS USED if anOptical/ Coaxial port is used. Otherwise it doesn't.
    I only just bought the amp and this isn't mentioned on any website and wasnt said by any sales person I spoke with. So iam quiet disappointed about this after spending over £600. I made lots of research b4hand and no one told me this, neither is it written anywhere on websites.
    Also NON of the streaming services EXCEPT Amazon, will Output up to 24bit 192khz VIA HEOS.
    QUESTION IF ANYONE KNOWS PLEASE.
    Because of the Dac not being switched on.... is an external cable output of 24bit 192khz into one of the inputs of the Amp a simple passing trough of 24bit 192khz or is it reduced to a lower quality?
    This info is so hidden that I only found out after a week and then talking with a Marantz person asking questions.
    Are all inputs at the back of the Amp configured for 24bit 192khz ?
    Or are they restricted like a normal Android phone? .
    Many thanks
    Dev

    At 2.50 its - "Babe I am going to leave you", from Led Zeppelin 1968. ( Joan Baez)

      Like a bit of Joan Baez, diamonds and rust etc. I wanted to use Francisco Tarrega (Recuerdos de la Alhambra) here - done by Mike oldfield and John Williams etc, but obviously copyrighted. One of my fav classical guitar pieces and just a lovely melody whatever you like th-cam.com/video/MDlQE9djIxE/w-d-xo.html th-cam.com/video/51OJ2eT7mGw/w-d-xo.html

    No Asahi Kasei AK4490 DAC chip on this model anymore, but a much cheaper DAC implementation, so its a no no go for me

    All said and done, it didn't make your 2020 'best of' list. Judging from this review I'd expected it would.

      It tends to be different shades of what’s good so is very hard to make the decision.

      It’s all about the DAC dear Watson. Not hires this, dsd that, MQA there, or cd.

    I’ve had mine 2 years. Here’s a listen of the PN7000 driving large towers, large room at reference level. I find it impressive how this little unit can fill a very large room. th-cam.com/video/t-VmUumO7mo/w-d-xo.html
