    Not sure how I missed this when first posted, but it's definitely cool that they have intimate events like this. Anyways, while I appreciate that Marantz doesn't forget their heritage (at least in terms of marketing), it's too bad that they make nothing like those older units anymore. While the new Marantz amps/receivers do have a slightly warmer/less sterile sound than their competitors, they are still a far cry from that golden solid-state sound they had in the 70's. I'm going to guess that the 2270 wasn't hooked up for a reason...
    And next time you talk to Marantz, please tell them that not everyone in North America wants a black amp/receiver. Why they don't offer us silver (at least on their "made in Japan" models) is beyond me.

    Now that I'm a proud (!) owner of a PM7000N, let me share my thoughts. First, finally, after all the other amps, Spotify sounds good! Second, you just cannot imagine the amount of bass this thing spits out, granted you do have Klipsch speakers like me. I mean, listening to Steve Roach's Infinite Shores put me at the center of our galaxy under a minute! Other than those, it has the same warm sound that makes you wonder whether you bought a tube amp. I especially like the convenience of Internet radio and the screen that displays all the necessary information. Again, there is no such thing as album cover art or unnecessary (!) stuff here, but it has all the relevant info, so that you can use it to research your favorite compositions. The rear isn't cluttered. It has very nice speaker connectors which accept banana plugs as well. There are two optical inputs and three analog inputs excluding the phono. Yes, you can hoop up a subwoofer too, although I cannot see a reason for doing so. I just love its simplicity and precision. The only thing lacking here is the golden color of the old Marantz amps which was according to me one of the features.

    I wonder how this compare to the NR1200 that they just released for $599 and has HDMI inputs?

    I have a 2220B with a 6200 turntable. Simple, beautiful sounding unit. Kind of skeptical about modern Marantz preserving that seventies warmth but,
    no doubt they sound better than many comparable contemporary units. I also have an Sr4120; like to keep things simple.

    Above the 2270 was the Marantz 19, which I use daily. $1000 in 1973 which was a lot of money then. The 2270 had 70 watts per channel which would blow away today's weak receiver amps. Huge power transistors in the output stage. And a real tuner, not a chip. And no ICs, all discrete transistors.

    • @joentell
      @joentell  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I wish I had some of those big boy amps. My Marantz 2220b is only 20wpc but it seems like way more. I love that thing.

    • @amazoidal
      @amazoidal 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      You can run that receiver all day at max. The output transistors are huge and that means high current. My 19 has only 50 watts a channel but it drives two pairs of ELAC B6.2 loud at 25% volume. Check out the size of the heat sinks on your receiver. On my 19, each heat sink takes up the entire side of the receiver.

      I'm a 2270 owner. It's interesting that they had the 2270 there but didn't do a listening comparison to their new product which at 60 Watts per side is close to the 70 of the 2270.

      Your 2270 is probably worth more than the new Marantz. When I bought my 19, they were using a 2270 for the amp because it had more power. A real 70 watts and it was under-rated. Huge heat sinks.

    I had a Marantz 2325 that was a monster! but i was offered alot of bread for it so i sold it ,and bought the 2018 Pioneer Elite Sx-N30 Hi-ReS class AB amp 85/100/120 that was 799.00US new, And i still can't find better for me for the money its a preamp streamer with integrated amp power that you can shut down internal power and use the 2 full range preouts and 2 subwoofer preouts and plays DSD5.6 all gold connection 5 analog 4 digital wifi/BT and Aureus 830a dac detachable IEC , I need to do an indepth review on it ,the internals componetes are all toshiba/ nichicon/Panasonic pretty crazy it was a big hit in the UK i only use in direct mode and as a preamp just so clean sounding thanks joe once i can find a preamp under 1k to replace it, J-N-T i want to send the Pioneer Elite SX-N30 to you!! to me it beat my Yamaha as801 so bad i sent the Yamaha back lol Thing is i'm a Yamaha fan !!!! Hi Joe, so I'm curious which sounds better 2270 or 7000N? I haven't been impressed with the earlier amps like 6006 etc. I'm hoping the 7000N is better.

    Nice room. Nice speakers. I'm sure the Marantz sounds fine. But, my 2265 weighs almost 36 pounds and I can guarantee that it will smoke the new unit power wise, lol!
    The PM7000N weighs about 23.7 lbs by comparison. New tech, sure. And, it is true that a near 24lbs unit for 60 watts x 2 @ 8 ohms is pretty respectable these days! So I'm sure
    it sounds good.

      60w x 2 @ 8ohm at 27lbs is respectable? The Outlaw RR2160 weighs 27lbs. It puts out a true 110w x 2 (or more as measured).

      @cnhhnc 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@amazoidal That's a beautiful golden era Marantz. Considered by some, to be the best receiver Marantz ever put out. I bet it sounds AMAZING!
      The 2265 sounds pretty nice on my vintage Polk Monitor 10As. I can only imagine what they'd sound like on a 19! Enjoy! They just don't make them like that anymore!

    • @cnhhnc
      @cnhhnc 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@JPWinters That Outlaw is a great piece. And, no doubt, more powerful than the Marantz. It is also over three pounds heavier, if that matters. Gross weight is not the best measure. And certainly, it becomes meaningless if you have a class D amp, but it's not a bad indicator of power just not the final word. Modern typologies do allow you to build a little lighter but, look at something like a Pass Labs INT-25 integrated which is a class A design, 51 lbs.

  • @JPWinters
    @JPWinters 5 ปีที่แล้ว +3

    Thanks for the video Joe. Think I'll buy the Outlaw RR2160, Lol.
    On another note, are these new "two-channel stereo receivers" like the Onkyo TX-8270, Denon DRA-800H, etc, really any better than their AVR sister products? These products cost 500 bucks. You can get a pretty good sister AVR (especially last year's model on closeout) for 500 bucks. That would be a good video.

    Yes, but how did it sound?

    • @joentell
      @joentell  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      I wasn't reviewing it. Too hard to analyze an amplifier when the speakers and the room is totally different. It's hard enough to hear differences in amps when A/B'ing them back to back. Pretty impossible in this situation.

    • @openbafflespeakerbuilder9863
      @openbafflespeakerbuilder9863 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@joentell I wasn't expecting a review and I guess I equated "listening experience" with "listening impressions". And it looks like I'm not alone by @d tasca's comment. It did look like a fun time with lots of tasty refreshments. I disagree with your assessment of needing to A/B to hear if an amplifier sounds good unless you are directly comparing two amps to see which one you prefer in any given system. And I certainly understand system synergy as well as weak links in a system. But if the sound is pleasing in a simple system such as the one you experienced one can assume the amp plays a major part. If it doesn't sound good then maybe it's the speakers or the amp or the TT , etc..

    • @joentell
      @joentell  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      The system sounded very good, but I don't know what contributed the most to that. If I were to guess, I honestly would attribute it to the speakers. Is it possible that if they connected it to a $150 class D amp, it might still sound excellent? Sure. In my experience, the quality of the speakers are disproportionately responsible for the overall sound quality of a system.

    • @openbafflespeakerbuilder9863
      @openbafflespeakerbuilder9863 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@joentell Now that I completely agree with, you have to start with a good pair of speakers and work backwards from there. But a good pair of speakers will also tell you a lot about the amp.
