    Thank you so much for posting this video. It is so enlightening! It really answered all the questions I had with the aikido version of Uke Nagaeshi. More power to you, sir!

    You might consider using your center power to move your weapon. Also, you might consider the concepts in the following video. th-cam.com/video/0tHwQd6oc6s/w-d-xo.htmlsi=5SOEVTnIZ5R2Oyz1

    I have always thought that the mindset of "don't do this or that to defend yourself because it will damage your weapon" is more of a Edo period or gendai budo mindset, not really a thing from war time koryu. Since if my life is on the line, the last thing I care about is the condition of my sword blade after I defended myself
    Also great points about how uke nagashi was taught in modern budo styles. Asayama Ichiden Ryu headmaster also explained that this method only work if the opponent cut a perfect vertical shomengiri, something you cannot just assume he 100% would do in a real fight. If he throw a yokomen or kesa, it will failed and you will get hurt

    Very good examples. I come from Nishio ryu AiKiDo (AiKi toho iai) but am a new student of KSR so some things are familiar but also Very different! I think my AiKiDo attitude will take a while to adjust. FWIW

    In the second variant where stepping through, this method is not an Aikido method strictly speaking. It is taught that way in the kata in both Yagyu Shinkage Ryu Kenjutsu and Shinto Ryu Kenjutsu / Kasumi Shinto Ryu Kenjutsu, off the top of my head , both Shinkage Ryu and Shinto Muso Ryu are Koryu Budo. Also your stepping off the wrong foot. It's the right foot that moves forward diagonally , not the left foot. You won't get cut if stepping through with the correct foot.

    Hi I watched your video with great interest as a lifelong Aikido practitioner and Uchi Deshi of 46 years experience. I can see you certainly have weapons skills I think you are misunderstanding Aiki Ken. There is no block and counter as you showed in your video in Aikido. And the exercise you showed at the end of the video is the most basic kind of block in Aiki ken. Aiki sword is based primarily on Kashima Ryu with elements of Itto Ryu and Katori Ryu. The systematisation is different and includes integration with Taijutsu But on a technical basis with the sword the main difference is the inclusion of musubi exercises, to increase flow. Functionally there is no difference between Aiki ken and Koryu ken. While there are many sensei doing different things with Aikido weapons I can only speak of bukiwaza taught by O’Sensei and Saito Sensei. Incidentally at a basic level we were taught to attack the wrists when deflecting from the very beginning of training even beginners

      Thank you. If you could make a video describing your thoughts, it would be much easier for me.
      I have very fond memories of training with Saito Sensei. I love his weapons work. Funny story. I first trained with Saito Sensei in Denver, and during the class he stopped everyone and asked me who my teacher was. I was so shocked I didn’t know what to say.
      My teacher was actually one of his older students, but I didn’t know the nature of their relationship, so I froze and didn’t say anything. To this day, I regret not saying his name. Some of my fondest memories in Aikido we’re definitely training with Saito Sensei’s students. The one that impressed me the most was someone I believe named Pat Hendricks. She had the most grounded center of any female I have ever trained with. I will never forget the experience of training with her.

    … still no video showing continuous stance pressure, moving forward with steps?

      @paulfrank1777  ปีที่แล้ว

      Are you referring to the video at the end of this comment ? I mentioned in this video where I demonstrate stance pressure related to the sword? I was going to make a video specific to Aikido is that the one you are requesting? th-cam.com/video/TkEUOitHP6U/w-d-xo.html

      Yes, the topic brought up at 11:35 and from 13:15. A continuous drive is “problematic” due to getting stuck/the transition phase. Another question; it seems you trained with Saito sensei, and I’ve always wondered WHY he dropped the tip of the bokken all the way down behind his back?

    • @paulfrank1777
      @paulfrank1777  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yes, the transition phase can very very problematic. I will try to clarify in another video. Hopefully I can get that done soon. I have always thought it was odd. That Saito Sensei brings his weapon all the way to his back. I do not know why he does this.
