  • In this video, I begin my process of making the 1978 Triumph Spitfire better. I will sell this car, not sure when, but in the meanwhile I need to make sure it is reliable, This video is mainly a shakedown test drive as I work out the issues and attempt to build back my confidence in this car.

Throw some Berryman fuel treatment in it.

Absolutely would not recommend an old British car, let alone any classic car as your only vehicle. Especially one that you will rely on to get you to and from work. To me, it makes more sense to buy a cheap beater to use as reliable transportation and have your project/classic car as a secondary extra vehicle

    Your steering wheel appears loose.

How in the world did you notice that? Good eye! Yes it’s always had some play in it but it doesn’t feel like it’s the bolts on the wheel itself. I watched back the video and you can see the hub has some play in it as well. I will make a note to remember to address this in the future :)

I really like THIS car, too. Having owned a Honda CRX for 11 years and over 200,000 miles has given me a real affinity for two-seat cars. Like @Gruesome’s Garage, I noticed the dodgy steering wheel. The bearings in the stem of my daily-driven bicycle MUST be replaced, too. My handlebars rattle and shake too much. Your travails with your steering would also give me pause. Please drive safely…in a safe car. Aloha!

@@bluesxt Just want you to be safe. Glad you are getting the Spit sorted out. My dad had a 68 GT6 when I was a kid, always had a soft spot for the Spitfire/GT6 .

When you first started it, it sounded like the choke was stuck on.
