    My Enyaq IV80x is my 5th BEV & my best so far, I'm based in Dublin we frequently drive to Belfast & back on a single charge. I'm off to France tomorrow towing a box trailer, did the same thing a year ago. Last October we did 800+ km on a single journey with one 30 minute top-up charge on the way. The car has done 25,000km stress free in my first year with the car.

    Thank you for reviewing the Skoda Enyak. I had decided that it was the better VW group's EV of choice because of several key features that it doesn't share with it's other cousins. First is avoiding the stupid 2 buttons for 4 windows on the door. The other, is making a tray out of the hole under the centre console, thus making it more usable than the ID4 hump. Finally, the steering wheel's buttons are exactly that. Buttons. In the ID4, with my clumsy fingers, I would be constantly, inadvertantly, turning something on/off and that could maybe be dangerous!

    Great review Marek, thank you for posting, I’m a huge Škoda fan, I do love the Enyaq, however such an eye watering price, coupled with nearly every ‘simply clever’ feature a paid for option, does not deliver the value for money ethos most seasoned Škoda owners are accustomed to, I think I will stay with my humble Fabia, for now at least!!❤️.

    • @Iceberg1313
      @Iceberg1313 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      The options probably wouldn't be too bad IF they had done like with the new Octavia Combi I have. I could pick which individual items I wanted but no someone in Skoda thought they had a great idea and placed these into all inclusive bundles instead with crap you neither wanted or needed. I was interested in the Enyaq until I saw the route they took with the options list and decided hell no, I'll wait another couple of years until they realise there are some things that are better left alone. For me their biggest 2 mistakes were the basic charging rate for the vehicle and no heat pump. For me to add that to the vehicle was almost an extra 2000 euro and I decided I'll wait. Then again I've been out in a Kia EV6 last week so maybe I won't be waiting that long for them to figure out what should be standard.

    You said that a software update while driving. Is it possible to set updates to happen when I choose? If such a thing happens when I am in a busy intersection, in the busy city streets, stopping there for longer isn't a good thing. So can you set it up to just notify you that there is an update, but to choose when to install it?

    • @MarekDrivesENG
      @MarekDrivesENG  5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Under normal circumstances it should never happen on the move. When there's an update available, you get a prompt on the central screen, and the update takes place only when the car is parked.
      In hindsight maybe this wasn't an update, but just a glitch. Or maybe it was caused by someone forcing an ongoing update to stop. Hard to tell, as VAG software was an absolute nightmare back then.

    Hi Marek - nice review and fair review. According to what you'd answered me recently, I expected something more.... merciless. :-) But as I mentioned before: Your verdict was fair and benevolent.
    I never drove the Enyaq yet - only sat in it for a couple of minutes. It's not quite as roomy as in a Kodiaq, but it's a big Skoda and so it's pretty comfy inside. I also like the style of (most) interior looks. So if I decided to buy an EV, the Enyaq was in my Top 3. Yes: It's expensive. *All* EVs are! So driving an EV is nothing for the poor. And yes: The option's list is endless and you can easily spend a second fortune on options. On the other hand: This grants the the oportunity to configure *your* car just like *you* want it. This is more complex an maybe more complicated as for example the Koreans do it, where you have the choice only between a low-spec, a mid-spec and a full-spec version and not much between it. But as you compare full-spec with full-spec, you may find out: Both are expensive in a similar way.
    The main issue with all EVs is however the range-and-recharge-matter. Maybe in a couple of years somebody will find a way that makes recharging as quickly as refueling a conventionel car at the gas station. From the moment recharging is a question of 2-5 minutes rather than half or full hours, EVs may become a real alternative. Until then the conventionel cumbusters will remain the major bloc of cars. I would guess: At least the next 10 -15 years.

      @@MarekDrives absolutely right! I'm afraid, this problem only gets worse the more people decide to drive EVs. So imagine 80 % people drive EVs (instead of 1,2 % in Germany momentarily). Let's consider most of them charge their EVs at home over night, and let's consider the vast majority never drives more than 200 km per day. Even let's consider there are 10 times more recharging stations than there are now (a figure I think absolutely unrealistic in a country that needs ten years to build a road and 20 to build an airport). So let's imagine all this - and you still don't have enough to prevent hours and hours of waiting for a free charger whenever you have to go more than 300 km from A to B. Even if all gas stations offered chargers as well, that wouldn't be enough

    • @MarekDrives
      @MarekDrives 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I imagine there will be some sort of central system for charge planning, where you could reserve a charging spot 15-20 minutes ahead of your arrival. Of course that's assuming the other person charging is not an asshole, and they will move their car promptly. And yes, there may be a penalty for those occupying charging spots overtime, etc. It is possible to manage this with technology. It's just a bit early.
      Also, I don't think we're actually going to go all-electric within the announced 10-15 year period, because at the zero hour some politician will say "we're not ready, the goals are too ambitious, let's roll it back another decade". And the best thing is, neither the current, nor the future politicians will ever be held accountable for those decisions :)

    Did you guys know that the first EV was developed in 1890-91 by William Morrison. ALready then they had EV's and an infrasturcture to charge them. However it became so popular that it wasn't possbile anymore to provide charging service to everyone. Besides that, they have invented the kickstarter so that u never had to start your gasoil motor manually, which made EV's unpractical.

  • @lewraz
    @lewraz 8 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

    This is why you have to learn about how EV battery works. Watch some Bjørn Nyland videos, especially 1000km challenges, he explains there how to optimize EV trip. You should never charge during the road trip to more than what is needed to get to next fast charger. This way your charging stop will take as long as it takes you to do toilet and coffee routines, not more. 10 to 20mins max. Driving style and habit has to change. It is not a diesel to drive from full tank to the empty and then fill up to full again. But then most of normal persons don't drive for 4 or 5 hours without stop. So for most of family trips it is even better to have more short stops and hit the road again, than to sit in the car until everyone goes crazy.

    • @MarekDrivesENG
      @MarekDrivesENG  8 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Excellent. I'm sure it works in Norway, where fast chargers are in abundance. In Poland (and AFAIK some other parts of Europe as well) DC chargers (forget HPC) are rare, they are often single CCS plug, they are often out of order, and they often output less power than stated. So in Poland, whenever you find a working charger, you charge for as long, as you have time, rather than for as long as you need to get to the next charger, because the next charger may not work or be occupied.

    8:26 The average consumption on the trip = 23,5 kWh. The net battery capacity = 77kWh. The price per kWh on GreenWay 50kWh fast chargers in Poland = EUR 0.45. The result is a maximum range of just over 300km on a trip like this, and the cost is EUR 34,65. It is almost impossible, certainly not reasonable, to use the total battery capacity between charging on a road trip, so the distance traveled will be even less than 300km/charge, while time loss due to charging will only increase. To me, this seems like a car only suitable for city driving or weekend trips. As a company rep. car - OK. I understand your reactions to the facts above, however, be aware that your personal preferences are not likely to be implemented. Why? These are business-driven decisions by companies that are putting in a lot of hard work in maxing out their profits. No, that was last year. Now it's something like 45k. I use German prices for my reviews in English. However in Poland the difference between last year and this year is only about 1200 euro (that's pretty much a currency exchange adjustment). The only problem is the 12+ months waiting period.

    I test-drove one a few weeks ago but ordered an Audi Q4 E-Tron instead. When I specced the Enyaq up to the same as the spec I wanted on the Audi (leather, fast charger, towbar) the leasing cost for the Audi was cheaper. The only advantage the Enyaq had was boot space - other than that I thought the Audi was better so ordered one. Both are really nice cars but for me an Audi for less than a Skoda was a no-brainier.

    2 hours extra each way says it all!
    EVs are for early adaptor fans and tech nerds, not normal people using cars as conveniences in the real world. You are paying more money for more hassle with an EV and that's not even taking into account, temperature fluctuations, coal gating, battery life considerations, pre-conditioning, charge rates, the home charger purchase and installation costs etc......then you have the fact that in the short term your latest EV will possibly be redundant and worth nothing 2nd hand with battery tech and charging advances.
    Why you'd buy something like an EV6 over a Golf R for less money is crazy currently.

    • @MarekDrivesENG
      @MarekDrivesENG  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Depends where you live. I'm currently in Vienna, where it too me 4 hours to charge an EV in Poland and Czechia. In Austria there are 350 kW chargers every couple dozen kilometers.

  • @tomaszbudnik521
    @tomaszbudnik521 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    6:43 and here is biggest problem with currently produced EV's... They have a good range where you can easily charge them and they don't when you need it :)
    that's why I'll rather choose PHEV which is good enough in city center and much better than EV outside when you need to make long fast trip.
    11:00 seems like again VAG is implementing fancy systems quickly and after implementation is testing them on customers :)

Electric cars are in fact cleaner than ICE cars in 95% of the world, according to a joint study by the Universities of Cambridge, Exeter, and Nijmegen. The only exceptions are places where coal still makes up the majority of the electricity generation mix, such as Poland, the study said (Sorry Marek:).

    It took the worse from VW MEB and put them on a Skoda, really bad that is no longer cheaper and clever as other Skoda.
    Concerning the range anxiety, that is not about the car but about the charging network.
    That's why as you told, Tesla are far superior to other EV cars, they have their own charging network which is far more developed than the other charging network, at least in Italy, but i think in Poland is the same, and then they have a total integration between the navigation and the charging stops.

    • @MarekDrives
      @MarekDrives 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      In Poland Tesla superchargers are not very common either, but between the SC network, and whatever else is available, Tesla makes most sense as an EV. As a car I think they are terrible, but that's just me :)

    Re: VW ID4, they are just starting to arrive in Canada but not my province of Ontario. Apparently it won't come here until next year. Also, the ID4 next software update will add 135 Kw charging which reduces wait times by 9 mins.
