true, and EVs CAN be good and viable for the right person under the right conditions. its not a problem that they exist but they DONT WANT to coexist, they want to TAKE OVER every other without actually being better than them in every aspect, the governments are enforcing that they should be sold or else. also they ignore their current flaws that still need a lot of polishing to actually be decently competitive.

@@Andrew-fq7pu I know where you're coming from, and don't get me wrong, I love the classics, but an old classic can be a lot of hard work and unreliable. I have a V6 3.5 Lexus IS 350 from 2012/13 with very low kms. It's modern enough to be reliable, comfortable and luxurious, while at the same time employing a tried and proven n/a V6 powertrain with six speed auto and rear wheel drive. The electric bits on it are common stuff too. It's considered a 'dinosaur' now, but it's the perfect blend of new and old.

You think cars pollute, watch this documentary. Freightened: The real price of Shipping. The 15 largest container ships pollute more than millions of cars. There are no pollution standards on the open sea where ships burn the cheapest most toxic fuel bunker oil. There are on any day 50,000 ships in international waters using this fuel. That is where the majority of pollution comes from world wide where no one can see them. They only burn less polluting fuel when in the territorial waters of countries. There are no standards for pollution on the open sea. That is why many ships fly foreign flags that allow this. Shipping companies use them to avoid countries own laws. So they pay very little taxes. We are being gaslighted by our own governments.

    12. Catastrophe. Floridian here. I live with hurricanes. We've upgraded our building standards and we have new mitigation systems for flooding which assist the water seeping back into the ground so hurricanes don't terrify us. But you know that about every 10 years you will be in one. We have taken steps so fewer power lines go down. But there will always be power lines down. It will take a week to get the power back up for everyone. Blizzards ice up power lines and take them down. Earthquakes and forest fires sever power lines. Many people just lock up and drive to another part of the state to get away from that. People who live in a disaster area top up the gas tank on their cars as a preparation when a hurricane is coming.
So reason 12 is that if there is a natural disaster you will lose electric power and you will lose the use of your only car.

Then on the road, ICE cars ran critically low on fuel as they crept along stop start congested roads getting very poor MPG consumption. Whereas, EVs only consumed energy when actually moving.

I’ve looked at cars hooked up and often they are pulling much much less. I’m not sitting round for an hour or so to get back home (and I love the ‘oh I go and have coffee or eat. Guess what. • @tid418
      @tid418 9 วันที่ผ่านมา +2

@@stevewilcock4767 That's a myth. In the early days, Betamax had better picture quality than VHS, but the maximum length a beta tape was much shorter than VHS... too short for most movies and also too short for people to record their favorite sporting events.
In time, the Betamax standard was extended, with lower tape speed options added for greater run times, along with thinner tape film, but that gave away the quality advantage Betamax had. It was still an improvement to most, as the limited run time was a much bigger deal than the relatively slight quality advantage Betamax had.
Even with that flaw addressed, the larger tape cassettes of VHS meant that at any given tape speed and thickness of the tape film itself, VHS would have the longer run time. To match VHS' run time, Betamax had to use lower tape speeds than VHS, and that meant worse quality, the opposite of how it had been previously.
Betamax was also a Sony standard whose licensing costs meant that a given Beta VCR or VCP would cost more than an equivalent VHS (JVC), which was licensed nearly for free. That meant there were a lot more VHS recorders and players on the market, which further reduced prices for consumers.
VHS won because it was a better standard when everything was considered. It is a popular myth that Beta was better, but it wasn't.

For every one else it's really not going to improve until the Technology does. Electric motors on their own are fine, even great. But we really need something other than huge battery packs for a power source. Batteries that take hours to charge if you don't want to shorten their life spans with an expensive super charger.

I LOVE THIS! AGREE WITH ALL THE POINTS. You had me there - I thought you would be a blinkered EV & China fanboy like the "Electric Viking" Australian. As a physicist, I am very skeptical of the wholesale conversion to EV's. The grid just can't handle it. And each country would need to make BILLIONS of investment in the grid in order to increase the energy delivery.
Sustainable energy sources are nice to have but the contribution of wind energy on a hot summer's day is negligible - just when everyone is running aircon or solar energy at night is zero. They can never be the only source. Nuclear power must be the backbone like the French have cleverly done. And it's even CO2 neutral.
Forget EV trucks on normal roads - how to you want to drive from Sydney to Cairns with an electric refrigerated 40 tonner? It's not going to happen. A transport company owner was once called before a US Senate Committee to talk about electrification of the transport fleets. He practically laughed in their faces. Any engineer can tell you this - you just have to understand the physics and crunch the numbers. No amount of wishful thinking will make the developed world go completely electric, and forget the developing world.
I drive a 2 litre Skoda estate (Czech VW Passat) that can regularly achieve 5.8l / 100km or nearly 50 miles per imperial gallon, 41 miles per US gallon AVERAGE on longer trips. It's a petrol (gas) engine. That's VERY efficient. 51.62 KW/h equivalent. or 67% of an _average_ EV efficiency and the heating is FREE. But for that I have best in class room and seating for 5. And I can drive over 1000 km on a tank. Regularly.
Your speech delivery reminds me somewhat of Pat Condell, author and a long time voice of reason in these crazy woke times.
All the best, Rob in Switzerland

Average fuel efficiency of transport truck 35-40 litres / 100km. 1 litre of diesel is equivalent to 8.9 kW/h. Equivalent total transport kW/h goods transport AND cars (but not service vehicles, emergency, security etc.) *31.8 billion kW/h*
ASSUMING electric vehicles are 3 times more efficient *EXTRA 10.6 billion kW/h REQUIRED*
*Generated 60 billion kW/h per year*
MINUS Industry 24 billion kW/h per year
MINUS Household 40 billion kW/h per year
NET DEFICIT 4 biillion kW/h (no electric vehicles)

If you don’t believe just check your mobile battery from when it’s new and after a year. This is actually analogous to EV's which you never truly own and you are always at the mercy of the manufacturer and charging stations.

I can't imagine how expensive it would be to have a car towed that far but it would certainly be more than I could afford, plus waiting for the vehicle to be fixed, perhaps for weeks. How would I get home, since we are a one driver / one car family? And being that this is mountain country, in Canada, I'm sure that it would be less stressful to tow an EV rather than drive one. Nope. I'll stick to my economy gasoline powered car ( that can be easily repaired at the mechanic's shop just 2 miles away from here in town ) that purrs along at about 1,100 rpm gently sipping fuel on the highway where I do most of my driving.

@@MartinHouston42no fires have been caused by an ev on a ship. Currently short haul ferries are adopting battery power, 999 thus far.
Two independent studies LASH Legislative assessment for safety hazards of fire and innovations in Ro-Ro ship environment
and Danish Institute of fire and security safety, research EV fire risk and mitigation in maritime industry.
Both closely studied the threat of EV fires and how to train crew to respond.
      Extracts;
      * EV fires are not more common/more likely than conventional vehicle fires.
      * The intensity of an EV fire is not necessarily more than that of a conventional car fire because most of the fire load comes from the materials used in the construction of the vehicle (plastics, interior etc) so the fire intensity is similar.
      * The fire growth rate of an EV fire is not faster than that of a conventional car fire.
      * Battery car fires can be controlled and extinguished by drencher systems among other methods.
      * It is highly unlikely that you will experience an electric shock from fighting a battery fire with water.
      * The re-ignition risk with an EV is higher than that of a conventional vehicle and the vehicle must be closely monitored after the fire has been extinguished
      Danish Institute report
      * All of the fires in the ELBAS tests could be extinguished safely.
      * The right equipment and training of crew is a critical aspect for lowering EV fire risks
      * ELBAS confirmed the effectiveness of drencher systems and boundary cooling.
In their executive summary, DBI finished on a positive note:
“In conclusion, the issue of EV fire safety onboard ships should not be a barrier to meeting the increasing market demand and support the green transition. The overall conclusion of the ELBAS project is that EV fires on ferries are not to be feared more than any other fire at sea. They can typically be dealt with using the correct technology, education, and training of shipboard personnel, as well as with coordinated cooperation between the ship and with emergency services on land.”

Simon, just a little addendum to the repair costs: It's not just the battery/high voltage electrical system that makes them expensive to repair, but also because many of those EVs are produced in a "gigacast" process, where the chassis is basically made just out of one single piece. They do this for two reasons: To save a little weight and cost, which they have to do because those are two main problems of EVs.
But that also means if you just got a little dent in your chassis it's very expensive or even impossible to repair, because they would have to replace the whole thing. But of course the EVangelicals don't care about such little details with their so evironment friendly throw away cars...

Charging is the issue, for not always obvious reasons. Many eateries who have nearby charging stations KNOW they have a somewhat captive audience, and if they are rural, they charge accordingly. High charge rates also mean high stresses on the charging infrastructure, especially in the "warmer months" such as Christmas, when "everyone" is on the road. Last year we had a significant amount of "Charger Aggro" around the FOUR charging points in our local shopping centre, with all the EV users queuing up waiting for their turn. Looking on the bright side, I gather the local KFC and McD's were having a very good time (with queues there too!)
