I lived in Sausalito when this movie came out. Remember some of the runners of that era. A wonderful time to be alive ..

I'm glad some of you were able to find a decent dvd copy of this film. I have been trying to find one for years, as all I've got is an old vhs that isn't any better than this one, and my daughter, who died in 2005, is the little girl with the blonde ponytail who is standing in the water when all the runners enter it at the end.. Her father is also in the group of people congratulating Bruce Dern at the finish, before they all head for the water. I was working in Bolinas that day and they had gone over to Stinson Beach. I think my daughter was four or five. She was delighted at getting to have all the juice boxes she wanted while they were filming, lol! She's only on the screen for a short while, but long enough to tell it's her. Same with her dad. Since she died at age 28, it's meant a lot to me to find these memories here and there. Glad to see this again. ❤

I remember first watching this film at the Mill Valley Public Library on VHS in 2009 before my first Dipsea. I spent years trying to find a copy and finally on eBay, a DVD copy materialized in 2017 for $80 and I bought it in an instant. I'm racing my 14th Dipsea tomorrow and am glad to have found this online now - thanks Bill!

The DVD that's available has removed Pam Greer from the movie. Totally ridiculous that someone would edit a movie like that, so nice to see the original!

Pam Greer added an extremely valuable element to the plot. Not sure why she was removed from the DVD. She contributed another dimension to Wes's character.

That’s unbelievable. How can you cut Foxy Brown out of this film? She’s great in it and adds a much needed romantic element. Her and Bruce have nice chemistry. Luckily I have a vhs copy that still has her lovely performance.

Why this isn't available is a mystery. Great movie about beating the odds, and sticking it to assholes.
    Love the Marin scenery.

When this movie was made I was living and running in San Diego. Some of the local runners invested in the movie and were extras in it.

Thank you for posting this little known cinematic gem. Definitely one of Bruce Dern’s finest performances. Plus it’s got Foxy Brown and the guy from the Godfather who wakes up to the horse head in his bed.😳😆
    Good soundtrack too.
    This movie is a beauty.🎥🤌🏼

THANK YOU for uploading this. I did have the DVD somewhere once upon a time but can't find it, which really bums be out because you can't find the DVD anymore. I tend to watch and rewatch a lot of running movies, but none actually feel as real as this one, even the documentaries. The closest thing has probably been the old documentaries out there on classic UK fell runners like Joss Naylor.

Hey, thanks for uploading this! I'm really glad that I could finally see it. Aside from McFarland USA, it's probably the only Cross Country related movie out there. I did both Cross Country and Track all throughout High School, and am now President of a Club Running Team in College, so to see something like this means a whole lot to me.

Thank you so much! I still have my VHS copy of this. There was something about this movie (especially the race itself) that captured the magic of running. Having recently returned to running, the Dipsea (because of this movie) is a bucketlist item.

This film is about more than running. It is about corporate takeover of sports. It is about underpaid athletes. It is about the labor movement of the early 1900s. It is about cooperation and sharing vs. competing. It is about the human spirit.

@@donaldrapp9111 Donald, I know this is an old post, but wanted to add on to your comment. The Dipsea race organization does not take sponsorships as they want to avoid marketing takeover of their brand. There has been a water sponsor over the years, but only because that company was a smaller local Mill Valley company when they first started. Nike has approached them over the years, and they have politely deferred to try and keep the raise simply about the runners.
