    When I lived in the UK I went to buy a hybrid. Hit quite a few balls and was trying to decide which I liked the look of. The professional asked me to try another club and not to look what it was. Needless to say it was a 7 wood. Yes, I bought the 7 wood.

    I switched from my 3 hybrid which was my favorite club to a 7 wood four years ago, what a difference. I also got rid of my 3 wood for a 4 wood, i can get my 4 wood in the air all the time compared with the 3. A real game changer for senior golfers.

    Love my 7 wood. I cannot stress how much I love my 7w. Have never liked the shape or performance of hybrids, so the high lofted fairway woods have been a godsend. My bag goes 7W, 9W, and I even sometimes put in an 11 W.
    Happy holidays to you and yours

    I picked up a TM M6 7W at the end of the season (for me it was October) and it was the perfect 175 yard "point and shoot" club. I had tried a 3 hybrid with the same loft in the past but didn't find it nearly as easy to hit. Thanks!

    Interesting video. I first bought a 3 hybrid and I had trouble hitting it consistently. Consequently I took it out of the bag. Thereafter I got a 7 wood (and a 9 wood) and had immediate success with it. Recently I took my 3 wood out of the bag as I found I rarely used it and the results were no better than my 5 wood. I replaced it with the 3 hybrid.
    Consequently I have both clubs and use them for completely different purposes. 7 wood for fairways and good lies, and three hybrid for more distance out of the rough (the key to me was to treat it like an iron and not a small fairway wood) and punch shots and sometimes chipper around the green.

    I have had a 7-wood in the bag for years. My first one was the Callaway Steelhead Plus (the blue one) and it was replaced only about 2 years ago by the Sim 2. It is just so much easier to hit, I am confident with it, I can shape it and I can change the trajectory if I need to. I have experimented with a Callaway Rogue ST 3-hybrid and I struggled to get confident with it. It's a personal thing for sure, because I hit the stuffing out of my Rogue ST 5-hybrid with so much confidence. The 7 wood gives me what I am looking for so I stick with it.

    I've been thinking about switching to a 7 wood. Hybrid is hit or miss "some pun intended" for me. I hit my 5 wood very well, so it stands to reason a 7 wood might be something to try.

  • @pbode1
    @pbode1 9 หลายเดือนก่อน

    I recently bought myself a 5 wood, still busy working out if it can replace my 3H. It's longer from the tee, but equal on fairways. From rough the 3H "feels" easier, but haven't gotten enough stats yet from my lovely shotscope watch to determine if it's a less risk option for real. Still keep both in at the moment, like you said, the second argument would be the lower launch of a hybrid in windy weather.

  • @AllTradesGeorge
    @AllTradesGeorge 11 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

    I carry neither. There's a 15-20 yard gap between my 5w and my 4h...with room for only 14 clubs in my bag, I'm more concerned about gapping in my wedges than fairway woods and hybrids. It's also important to keep in mind that hybrids are not all created equal, and some designs are only slightly smaller heads than the fairway woods they're overlapping.
    If you're good enough that you're fine-tuning your hits at that range, more power to you. For myself? The rules only allow you to carry so many clubs. You will never have enough slots in your bag to carry "the perfect club" for every shot you find yourself having to take. On the three or four courses that I regularly play, I ~might~ use a 7w/3h once a round. Much more likely that I'd try choking up on my 5w or hitting it at 60-75% than reach for a club that I almost never use and therefore have almost no confidence in.

    Good stuff MSH. I go back and forth on hybrids vs. fairways. I'm surprised to see the fairway wood tackle the rough so good as I always thought that was the domain of the hybrid. I'm a slow swing speed player.

      5 hybrid and maybe 4 can get through the rough pretty good but the 3 is tough unless you are a very fast or steep swinger of the club. Thank you!

  • @Drycleanerguy
    @Drycleanerguy 11 หลายเดือนก่อน

    Per ShotScope, I hit my 3 hybrid 182 yards average, and my 7 wood 181 yards on average. That only tells a part of the story, however. The 7 wood always flies higher, and lands softer, plus it goes straight, while I hit the 3 hybrid left all the time. The bottom line is that I hit the green 18% of the time with my 7 wood, and 0% of the time with my 3 hybrid. The 3 hybrid left my bag months ago, and won't return. I use my 7 wood from tees, from the fairway, from the rough, from deep weeds, and from bunkers, and I almost always hit it well. I wouldn't trust the 3 hybrid for most of those shots, and I don't miss the 3 hybrid at all.

    New subscriber, enjoying your content and watching your great swing. Looking at replacing my 19* hybrid and 22.5* hybrid iron for clubs I can hit higher. I hit my 19* straight but far too low and I’m inconsistent with my 22.5* and only use it for punch shots. I’ve been teeing off with a 17* 4 wood because I haven’t figured out my driver. The more utility clubs to gap between my 5 iron would be a great help…

I have an old Tight Lies 7W I still like. I am 64 and swing speed is 87mph, as I get older it will drop. Can you review the reasons, benefits of a 9W and who & why one should play it.

    Really interesting and important for the amateur golfer. I think of what types of ball flights suit me and my golf course the best. I then write down the design characteristics of the golf club which will help me achieve this and what suits my eye. I take this information to eBay and buy some cheaper second hand older clubs to test my design hypothesis. From there I either have a cheaper club or clubs which work, or at least I have some good testing information to take to my PGA professional. The journey of testing and self learning is valuable for improving technique and understanding. Good video 👍🏌️

    Love your videos they are amazing! Question so i have a 4 hybrid that i hit inconstant its either a well struck ball or a chuck. I have a 5 wood in my bag that i hit so pure everytime and that goes about 210 so should i replace my 4 hybrid for a 7 wood? I hit my 4 hybrid about 185 would i get that yardage from a 7 wood or should i get a 9 wood?? Or do i need a hybrid in my bag and is it stupid to carry both a 5 wood and 7 wood? Sorry for this long question i just need answers lol

    • @mistahshorthitter
      @mistahshorthitter  ปีที่แล้ว

      I would look at the next club down and the gap your are filling. If you hit your 5 wood 210 what is your next longest club outside of the one your are replacing? If you hit it 175 that is a 35 yard gap and a good club may be a 190-195 yard club. If shafts etc are the same you are probably talking around 5 degrees of loft difference between your 5 wood and the next club. Personally, I would look at what shots do I need more often? If it's closer to 195 I would get the 7 Wood and if it's closer to 185 I'd look at a 9 Wood. Hope this helps!
