Why do people think they are being cool using the word 'queer' as it is still an insult to many LGBs; in addition, it has become meaningless b/c now hetero men pretending to be women ('trans' AGPs) use it as do other straight people trying to be edgy. As for the movie, it was great, both actresses are so very talented.

Sad to see you make fun of an artform like that

There's a reason why Kate Winslet has been promoting Ammonite so relentlessly these last few months and that's because she's so bloody damn good in it. But Kate Winslet has nothing to apologise for or explain here, she is completely justified in taking this role and really brings it to life.
The problem is gay actors don't have as much choice as Kate Winslet, who didn't exactly create new opportunities here, did she now. Whether that could be due to what historians etc deemed controversial or shameful to add to their reports. Or perhaps they didn't deem something worthy of putting in the history books. As none of us alive now were there for a lot of these events in history we can't say for sure what happened. Only those that were alive at the time of these events etc can ever know for sure and all we'll ever know is what someone reported on. What they wrote down whether it was for an official sounding entry into the history books or something personal. So letters etc.
