Amazing how 23 years later, this classic game still holds up. I am glad that I was able to play it when it first came out in 1991. I didn't sleep or do homework for a week.
This seriously was the best Football game I ever played when I was a kid. Hell, I still play it to this day. They make recreations of it with current team rosters. I'd love to get my hands on one!
Been waiting a while for this review. Couldn't agree with you more. We used to log way too many hours playing this game and drinking Mellow Yellow late into the night. To this day it's still easy as hell to find someone to play with.
I like how you dont just think ur funny by reviewing bad games, i do like avgn and irate gamer but you're the best game reviewer and the most honest Keep it up :)
Simply the best football game ever made! I play this game at the start of every season and play it all the way thru to the super bowl to this day. Madden can suck it. Go saints!!!!
This is, without a doubt, my favorite football game of all time! Imo, no one's done it better. I have the 2007 rom hack and it's still amazing with new stats. Heck, even the new DS version wasn't as good as this one.
when you still to this day have people travel to play in Tecmo Super Bowl tournaments, you know this is a kick ass game. the biggest one is in Madison, WI. (They get over 200 players)
I always liked playing CB's and Safeties on defense...I was all about getting INT's and trying to return them for touchdowns lol. Deion Sanders was my favorite...I once got 15 INT's in a season using him and several of those taken back for TD's
This is a great game my only complaint is not the games fault but this was the year before Favre took the league by storm and Don Majkowski was the Packers QB. We were happy to have Magic Man until we saw the Legend that was Favre came in when he was injured and gave GB a come from behind win and never looked back.
The thing that amazes me so much is how they got all logos, team colors, stats and names in on a cartridge that was usually only 100-200kb! The typical readme.txt file is bigger!
If you really want to dork out, you can do this. Five friends and I got together and drafted an AFC team and an NFC team. Then we played a season of Pro Bowls against each other, plugging in our rosters as the Pro Bowl teams first. It was a blast!
I'm not familiar with the rules and strategies of HandEgg, but I'm thinking of learning them just to be able to play this awesome looking/sounding game. An all-around great review, Aqualung.
two questions: 1. anyone know what song is playing at the end of this review? 2. What did you think of the three year mode in the SNES version of the game?
Easily the best NES football game and one of the best football games in home video game history!!! Great review...the worst football video game was NES football, the one that had the diagonal angle....it was a trainwreck...
I enjoyed TSB a lot. Every season, I played both the Jets on AFC and the Giants on NFC. During the Superbowl, I set both teams on computer so I had a Subway Bowl.
This game was way ahead of its time...I love Madden, very realistic...but as far as realistic games go, this one is about as real as it gets for a freakin Nintendo game. Great game that I still play sometimes...for some reason I can't beat the fucking Steelers most of the time, but in the playoffs I usually whip that ass so I'm happy lol
Great review. Does holding start and reset erase the previous season? Because I got a used copy that's stuck with the Cowboys as champs whenever I try to play season mode.
You probably figured it out after 9 years, but if not, you go to the schedule page when the season is over and press a or b I can't remember which and the option to reset the season comes up.
PlayItBogart used to have a video on here where he showed us a homebrew cartridge of Tecmo Superbowl...it had the entire list of NFL teams and rosters from 2007.
There's at least quite a few of the Tecmo Bowl games in the Tecmo Bowl franchise. Here's the order of Tecmo Bowl games in the franchise that the Tecmo Bowl games appear in (I'm ONLY going to include the ORIGINAL versions, not mobile phones/virtual console versions or anything like that) Tecmo Bowl (Arcade) (1987) - Tecmo Bowl (NES/Famicom) (1989/1990) - Tecmo Bowl (Game Boy) (1991) - Tecmo Super Bowl (NES) (1991) - Tecmo Super Bowl (Super Nintendo/Sega Genesis) (1993) - Tecmo Super Bowl II: Special Edition (Super Nintendo/Sega Genesis) (1994) - (Tecmo Super Bowl III: Final Edition) (Super Nintendo/Sega Genesis) (1995) - Tecmo Super Bowl (PlayStation) (1996) (that one should've been called Tecmo Super Bowl IV due to it's extreme similarity to Tecmo Super Bowl III: Final Edition) - Tecmo Bowl: Kickoff (Nintendo DS) (2008) - Tecmo Bowl: Throwback (Xbox Live Arcade/PlayStation Network, Xbox 360/PlayStation 3) (2010)
manualLaborer You're overtly disrespecting one of the greatest and most beloved games of all time on any video game system. Don't mistake me as your friend either, I'm certainly not that. If graphics mean that much to you, then what in the hell are you doing watching 8 bit gameplay??
LuckyDT my dearest friend, my fandom reaches back to the Atari 2600 - where if you lost the booklet, you had no idea what those blocks represented. 8-bit was an amazing improvement, i grew up on NES, and have many ROMs on my phone's NES emulator. i think you need to play the game "pull the tampon out of my vagina because i take everything too seriously". not sure if you could beat level-1.
Cheers for being an old school gamer, I know ALL about those instruction booklets, and how fucked your are without them. I played on a Commodore 64, where without the booklet, you can't START the game. So, that said, I fail to see what the rest of you post is supposed to mean honestly, so I'll just leave it at that.
I love that somebody hacked this rom and put the most updated roster into it. I wish more basketball games had that happen to them. At least NBA Jam Online Edition recently updated their rosters, so we can can actually see Steve Nash on the court as a Laker for once. j/k
OMG you could save the game after turning it off? me and my cousin just kept the game on and turned the TV off and tried to complete seasons in no more then two days...
Still my favorite sports video game of all time...QB Eagles owns your ass! The only bad part about this game was that your teammates couldn't tackle for shit. If the running back got past the line of scrimmage, it was a 30 yard minimum gain pretty much every single time...
Amazing how 23 years later, this classic game still holds up. I am glad that I was able to play it when it first came out in 1991. I didn't sleep or do homework for a week.
Yeah, i was a Tecmo nerd myself.
Me too..I grew up an oiler/ bills fan growing up...loved tha kgun and run and shoot offenses
Cherished this game with all my heart as a kid.
The greatest football game ever made, for any console. Bar none.
This seriously was the best Football game I ever played when I was a kid. Hell, I still play it to this day.
They make recreations of it with current team rosters. I'd love to get my hands on one!

Wow! The cutscenes where the football is kicked or caught in the air are amazing! I loved every one of them. This game is quite outstanding!
Aqualung, you never cease to amaze me. keep making reviews and walkthroughs cuz i love watching them. especially your commentary makes me laugh too.
This is the best football game ever. It was well ahead of its day many years ago, and it is still fun to play today.
Tecmo made the best sports games for the NES.
One of my personal favorites on the NES.
Tecmo Super-Bowl is one helluva good game... I still play it even today....
"this game means fucking business" - I love it - thumbs up
I like how you dont just think ur funny by reviewing bad games, i do like avgn and irate gamer but you're the best game reviewer and the most honest
Keep it up :)
Simply the best football game ever made! I play this game at the start of every season and play it all the way thru to the super bowl to this day. Madden can suck it. Go saints!!!!
I remember when i was young my dad would have his friend over and they would play this game for hours on end.
This was one of the greatest football games ever made without a doubt.
This is, without a doubt, my favorite football game of all time! Imo, no one's done it better. I have the 2007 rom hack and it's still amazing with new stats.

The song comes from this game. It plays when you finish the regular season and the standings and playoff matchups are displayed.
I always liked playing CB's and Safeties on defense...I was all about getting INT's and trying to return them for touchdowns lol. Deion Sanders was my favorite...I once got 15 INT's in a season using him and several of those taken back for TD's

Raiders. It's been a rough 11 years, but I never jump ship.
great review this is one of my favorite games
thank you brentfan1. thats really nice of you to say that.
yup easily the best football game ever made
If you really want to dork out, you can do this. Five friends and I got together and drafted an AFC team and an NFC team. Then we played a season of Pro Bowls against each other, plugging in our rosters as the Pro Bowl teams first. It was a blast!
Greatest sports game on the NES.
best sports game ever....I could pop this sucker in any day of the week
This is a football video game after my own heart. I love this game, both NES and SNES versions.
Haha,Love this dude’s review.
I'm not familiar with the rules and strategies of HandEgg, but I'm thinking of learning them just to be able to play this awesome looking/sounding game. An all-around great review, Aqualung.
nice review.
Another great review thanks man!
from what I remember the SNES version had a "3 year mode" where you played three different NFL seasons but I THINK that was was it
two questions:
1. anyone know what song is playing at the end of this review?
2. What did you think of the three year mode in the SNES version of the game?
does anyone know why the dots below the plays change color? theres no mention of it anywhere on the internment
this game was awesome.
I dont care what madden fans say, this game is more fun.
Easily the best NES football game and one of the best football games in home video game history!!! Great review...the worst football video game was NES football, the one that had the diagonal angle....it was a trainwreck...
One of the Best of All Time.
Wow, I've never played this but the game was so impressive for it's time.
I enjoyed TSB a lot. Every season, I played both the Jets on AFC and the Giants on NFC. During the Superbowl, I set both teams on computer so I had a Subway Bowl.
best football game of all time..good review
And Mighty Bomb Jack is fun. That needs to make a comeback.
This game was way ahead of its time...I love Madden, very realistic...but as far as realistic games go, this one is about as real as it gets for a freakin Nintendo game. I agree. THe music on this made me want to play it. It was just too hard core :O
PlayItBogart used to have a video on here where he showed us a homebrew cartridge of Tecmo Superbowl...it had the entire list of NFL teams and rosters from 2007.
Me too. In fact, I'm proud of my boys, the Giants whipping their asses for the second time in a row!
There's at least quite a few of the Tecmo Bowl games in the Tecmo Bowl franchise. Great review; greater game. The NE accent adds some flair to the review.
such an amazing game!
oh crap, this is a video game? i thought I was watching a clip of the super bowl. i was like who are the tecmos. what an amazing age we live in.
And what a fucking idiot you sound like.
LuckyDT what's the problem friend?

FYI they remade the SNES version as a download for $10 on XBLA/PSN.
This game blows Madden out of the water ANY DAY of the week. The best football game ever made.
I love that somebody hacked this rom and put the most updated roster into it.
I wish more basketball games had that happen to them.
At least NBA Jam Online Edition recently updated their rosters, so we can can actually see Steve Nash on the court as a Laker for once. j/k
i remember picking the raiders and giveing the ball to bo jackson for a td all the time bo knows
OMG you could save the game after turning it off? me and my cousin just kept the game on and turned the TV off and tried to complete seasons in no more then two days...
I love this game! Good improvements from the first one.
Not that it matters, but first comment I guess? Don't see what is so special.
wow didn't expect a sports game review... but this game always was a cut above the other football games for sure. :)
Thanks man!
ditto to what 10yearnascarfan typed.
Still my favorite sports video game of all time...QB Eagles owns your ass!
The only bad part about this game was that your teammates couldn't tackle for shit. If the running back got past the line of scrimmage, it was a 30 yard minimum gain pretty much every single time...
