Fighting the Typhoon 战台风 Sun Jinyang Guzheng Ensemble Cambridge Concert 2020 3rd CUIMF

“Fighting the Typhoon” (战台风) is a representative guzheng solo piece by the prominent guzheng performer and composer - Miss Wang Changyuan. This piece is a dramatic depiction of harbour workers fighting against the forces of nature. Wang composed this work in 1965 when she was living in the dormitories of the Shanghai harbour and observing the workers there. In this piece, you will be able to experience the scenes of the bustling harbour, the typhoon approaching, the spirit of the harbour workers fighting against the typhoon, and at the end, where the workers celebrate for winning against the typhoon.
This piece was performed by the Chinese guzheng virtuoso - Mr Sun Jinyang, alongside his guzheng ensemble. After graduating from the prestigious Central Conservatory of Music, Sun is now a special guest performer of the China Central Television (CCTV) music channel’s programme - “Feng Hua Guo Yue（风华国乐）”.
