  • Mudlarking in Scotland. As we get ready to ring in 2024, here's something from the dark and distant past, something that predates Scotland on a Shoestring. Our very first video from about a year ago !! We've come a long way since then, but we think you'll like this.
We'd been out with Willie from ‪@dirtysecretsofscotland‬ and thought we'd have a go at this TH-cam lark for ourselves. This is a wee video we made of a visit to two of our favourite Victorian (ish) dumps in Scotland. We head into the Scottish Borders for the first visit, then to a well known (and massive) dump near Edinburgh for a wee look at what the bottle diggers have left behind.
A huge thank you to everyone who's supported our wee channel so far, if you'd like to help support our wee adventures you can do it through through our Ko-Fi or Patreon.
If you'd like to buy DeNiro a biscuit (and he's a good boy, honest) you can via our Ko-Fi link at www.ko-fi.com/ScotlandOnAShoes....
If you'd like to become a patron of our wee channel we also have a patreon at / scotlandonashoestring

Yep, we are trying to make it self contained, a shoestring version of a proper camper.

Good to see diggers leave non value items in such a way for collectors have easy access to collectibles.

We’re always amazed what the serious diggers leave behind. Even nice wee ink bottles and suchlike.

This was a lot of fun. I can’t believe how many items are just inches below the surface or sticking out of an eroded bank. Some lovely bits of pottery, too. Feel free to do more videos like this. It’s the outdoors version of treasure hunting in charity shops. :) Did the little bird clean up well? Were you able to repair the tail?

You certainly need some rubber boots with you to go wading.
I'd get in so much trouble with all those bottles.
    Happy New Year 🎆

Yeah, I have to be careful what I bring home now.. or at least what Bex sees me bringing home.

I have had a fascination with beach glass or sea glass. Here in the US I go to Presque Isle in Erie Pennsylvania and spent hours over the years. It is an activity that shuts my mind off and is so peaceful. Enjoyed your video 😊

We love the solitude, nowhere more peaceful than an abandoned beach.

Iian, Thank you so much for taking us along on this trip to the tip. I thank the bird with no head was a chicken and the bone at the beginning of this video was a goats leg bone. I wish I had dumps around here that I could dig thou that would be so awesome. I hope you and yours have a Happy New Year!

Thank you. We found quite a lot of that goat (or maybe sheep). That dump is a very interesting place.

That was a fun mudlark with some interesting items. Some would have been quite nice if complete.
That wasn't too bad for a first video! I've seen much worse. 😁

At 4:47 & to the left of your hand there was what looked to be a glass purple pine cone that could have been a bottle stopper. . I wish you had noticed it.

      @scotlandonashoestring  6 หลายเดือนก่อน

Ooh, just looked back at that. I did think it was just a pine cone but looking at it now you could be onto something.

I enjoy you guys and the sweet dog, but being American, I have difficulty deciphering your beautiful accent. I've tried using the caption feature, but often you talk too quickly for the captions to keep pace. The scenes are so beautiful, I wish you'd spend a tad more time on each one. Here's me, complaining about free content. Please continue on. You have so many wonderful things to share....and wow, can your racing dog run! I'd hate to have to catch him!❤😂😊

Yeah, I sometimes listen to what I’ve filmed and think “nope, too fast”. I’ll keep working on it and hopefully be a bit more understandable.
