    There is good and bad in Europe too. I am a European living in the US and I like my current dojo. They teach class in Japanese, they incorporate strength, balance, and flexibility training, they focus on stances, they show us bunkai, etc. I had to do heian nidan for the orange belt and heian godan for purple. As far as this video clip goes, I commend these kids for taking the time to learn something that benefits their body and mind and I will not criticize their stances and level of training. After all, I am to seek perfection of character and respect others...

    Some martial arts take a very long time to achieve their first dan, Now these days people are handing out black belts to 6 year olds, I think its getting out of hand

    @assassin465 yes 14 is a very good age to start because you will understand more what each move can do to someone and you can learn the history behind Shotokan ... i started at 18 and i have been in it for about a year and 2 months now

    Alex did great. He did mix up Heian Sandan with Heian Godon in the beginning though. My son age nine did the same thing.
    He looks great though. I hope he sticks with it.
    Os!

    On Okinawa in the 18 months I was there some friends started training soon after they hot there. 2 hours per day...5 days a week it was possible to achieve a black belt in that time. If a person was able to attend 2 classes it was possible to get 2 Dan. We were taught by no less than a 5th Dan. There was a 10th Dan on site to assist. His dojo.
    He was the only 10 Dan I have ever seen. He said he had been training for over 65 years in the Shorin Ryu
    Matsumura style. I still perform those kata to this day.

    @flexy270 My sensei Started at 8 and is now a 3rd Dan now .. we also have another Sensei that combined with our Dojo and he is also and 3rd they just need to find a 5th or 6th Dan to test them ... because you have to be 2 Dans higher than what you are testing :)

    those kids were amazing, just started karate with my 7 year old boy 6 months ago, we have 2 white blts completed, karate gradings are not for the faint hearted i think, it is a great discipline for young kids, defently stands to them in later life, tell those kids to keep up with the karate practise, believe me it takes guts to grade in front of people, well done again, oss.

    Seems pretty nerve wracking to have the sensei always yelling, "Fast as you can! Be the fastest!"

    How in the hell is this a McDojo?
    These are kids! And plus they are under belts!!
    They are not suppose to be "perfect".

    • @nickmoir4298
      @nickmoir4298 7 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Kids or not you don't grade unless you know proper technique. This is completely shameful to Shotokan karate.

    Shotokan??? Purple belt?????

  • @auberpig8
    @auberpig8 12 ปีที่แล้ว

    American Karate is so easy! Why are they doing heian Nidan for purple belt???!!! I'm in England and I did that for orange... Im also doing Purple belt and im doing heian yondan... This just shows the state of america at this moment...

    • @theogannon
      @theogannon 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      To be fair to them, Heian Nidan is a rather technical Kata, it's why you often find it given to you as one to do for your shodan or in competition

    • @charlieedwards8524
      @charlieedwards8524 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      If in England, you'd do heian nidan to get your yellow belt. You do kihon kata to get your orange

    • @cindyhua3951
      @cindyhua3951 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      "American Karate" lmao. In my dojo we did Heian Nidan for yellow.

    • @tam1ceyhun
      @tam1ceyhun 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      I'll do all Heian katas, Tekki Shodan, Bassai Dai, Kanku Dai, Enpi, Jion and Hangetsu for black belt, and yes, some kihon and kumite techniques too.

  • @PanicusVulgaris
    @PanicusVulgaris 12 ปีที่แล้ว

    @gamefreak9085 hard to say. I would say it's JKA. But seriously, it doesn't really matter. Shotokan is Shotokan, and today's divisions between great masters who used to train together and made names for themselves together are unfortunate. What matters is that this is a "McDojo" of a very low level, pretending to be Shotokan.

  • @PanicusVulgaris
    @PanicusVulgaris 12 ปีที่แล้ว

    @filipmath I agree with you 100% The only thing Americans are good at is pathetic yelling. They are lightyears behind European Shotokan. In 21 years living in USA I only met 5 or 6 Americans who could earn any kind of serious respect in Europe or Japan.
