Videos like these make me want to get back into karate. I did karate for about 3 years (from when I was 7 until the dojo that I was at closed down when I was 10, and I was real close to getting my 3rd belt, at that time, so I was upset). If I got back into it (I'm 27, now), I know that I'd have to start as a white belt, again (which I wouldn't have an issue with), but I do wonder if I'm too old to get back into karate.
Very nice testing. Very similiar style of testing in my own dojo in Cypress, CA. You guys definitely don't give away belts. It took me 11 years to earn my black belt. Keep up the good work.
@@jorrisaddy6769 Lol. Our dojo is strict and makes people work for their black belts. On average it takes 7-10 years. To answer your question though, I broke a toe in my foot as a blue belt which held me back for several months. I also blew out my left knee which costed me six months. Then I had a few personal issues which set me back also for six months. Despite the challenges I got it done. Thanks for asking that question though.
@@michaelhubbard4023 yeah so say you had personal issues which affected your commitment to regular training and dojo attendance. But no matter how strict a dojo is, with regular training and normal commitment, it shouldn't take a student up to even 2 yrs to get to shodan, unless the student is not understanding and getting anything at all
@@jorrisaddy6769 True. But McDojos give black belts after two years. However depending on the style most martial art forms range between 5-10 years. My style is traditional shotokan karate. BJJ takes 10 years for their students to get black belts. The minimum in my dojo takes about 7 years. Where are you training?
Thank you very much! The artwork was done by a Denver local tattoo and mural artist Robin Munroe. Unfortunately, we had to move the Dojo in February 2018 and had to abandon the mural.
Im not sure if every dojo does this but during exams you may be tested on any of the previous katas but you never forget the "basic" movements like what they're doing

They really earned the brown belts, especially with the katas. Kudos to their Senseis.
And the artwork in your dojo is really cool
Thank you! We appreciate it. Good luck with your material arts journey
intresting, i worked for almost 6 years for my purple belt. my brown belt examination will be on sunday, this vid gives me strength yihiiiee
Good luck!!

You are never too old to do something you enjoy. We have many students who started late. Find a good Dojo and enjoy the journey. Good luck!

Michael Hubbard thank you Sir! Congratulations to you!
You mean 11 years to get to shodan? What were you doing in that dojo, sleeping?

Great school, excellent quality 👌 👏
Thank you very much!

Phenom Azure Thank you
The 3rd dan loves the sound of his own voice!
I don't think there is anything wrong with it. In fact, it is good orator skills, don't you agree?

Dwayn Rodriguez thank you, it is! We moved to a better location and a bigger place. Stay tuned - new artwork is coming shortly :)
what hes saying is give your life to a gift.
Not bad. Quite good Kata performances, I say.
opiskelu thank you. Work in process. Always!
Very great the first team
Thank you, stranger!
The asian kid was totally wonderful, totally deserved that belt
@@BeRoskiii- yep, too bad he is not training anymore
What style of karate is this?
ramone boyd Shotokan
@josephcrsn correct
Interesting! I wonder what the pass rate was for the brown belts?
In this group everyone passed. However, not always the test results in the success. Especially when it comes to purple and brown belt tests.
@@OkinawaDojobyKarateBrosDenverThey all passed? Seriously?

Brown belt????? Come on...they are level at yellow belt level..
Interesting feedback. Would you mind showing us a video of a "proper" brown belt level in karate?
@@OkinawaDojobyKarateBrosDenver how is bassai dai kanku dai performing for black belt AA for brown belt tekki shodan
@rock care, I don't think you know what you're talking about. They even did kata higher than their level for the test
We're all older now

I wonder if the people forget their old techniques when they rank up and if they do then the teacher is bad

@@nickcoker9092 yeah that's the standard practice. I was expecting to see one kata below their current belt from each person before their main katas

O hi was a really good Karateka! It is sad that he stoped his karate journey
There advanced kata,s not for brown belts realy odd to see ,,should be Bassai Di but performed well none the less
