Nick Offerman is a modern day Renaissance man. Master Carpenter, actor, author, whisky lover and hy all accounts a genuinely decent human being. Great tasting notes on this one Jon, i am fully in agreement about the summer dram aspect of this. I think this could have easily become unbalanced with too much more time in rum casks. The initial maturation in bourbon/sherry casks helps balance this and saves the experience. Great review Neighbour! 🥃
Offerman-less here. Just never picked it up even though definitely a Lagavulin fan, chill filtration and E150 be darned. Love the stuff, regardless. Will undoubtedly get a chance to try a dram of one of these expressions at some stage. Both sound good, especially the charred oak. Ah, that video! Absolute classic. Nick O/Ron S, gazing sternly and intently at the camera as if hanging on the viewer's every word, expression, or thought. Nothing else in the universe but him, a roaring fire, you...and that Lag 16. However, did you know that there is a 10 1/2 hour version? Yes, yes there is. Seriously, I kid you not! By the way, gotta say, if you recreated a 45 minute spinoff/spoof I'd absolutely watch it. Don't think I'd be able to help myself! 🤣🤣 Here's to a lazy Sunday...after the yard work is done. ☕☕ Marian 🇨🇦
LOL! I am aware there is a 10 1/2 version, but I have never watched it. I did whatch the 45 and enjoyed every minute. As you say .. his stare is priceless! I hope that lazy afternoon finds you. Cheers!

I got a bottle of the 4th edition coming my way and your review has got me looking forward to it. I am especially happy to hear your mention about a great summer dram. Thanks for sharing Jon. Cheers!
Hello Jon. This is a great review and it's super cool to see both side by side comparison. I agree that the 4th release is a good summer dram. I think this one could make a delicious and refreshing whisky highball. Cheers to a great summer🥃
Joel is comparing the Laphroaig 10 today and this Lagavulin. He gets a lot of brine and smoke too. This is a terrific summer Islay although I could have it all year. I didn’t get much rim. The charred oak is our fave Offerman!!
Wow 100CAN that’s about £58 here, this is 90 in our market so I never got tempted, what a great price in your market! I’m totally with you on rum finishes after a Smokehead that I’ve got (riot) it just didn’t work for me yet on their other (rebel) I enjoyed it but I’m unsure whether I’d blind buy a rum finish for good money anymore. Out of the two I think I’d go for the charred oak too although i really wish I’d gotten my hands on the stout cask they did, cheers!
Rum finishes seem to be popular right now. This one is good, and I think many people really enjoy it. If I wanted a peated cocktail, this just might be it! I wish you had too and I wish we both had the whole line. That woudl be great to shoot! Prices are all over the place. I know consumption of whisky is significantly down here, so that might be driving the price on a few releases. Thanks for dropping in!
I admit I bought a case!! I love the 3rd Edition the most but this one is right behind it! Love it! I am not usually a lover of rum casking! Interesting thoughts Jon! Did Offerman contribute to this distilling? Your Edmonton colleague who makes great whisky videos did a 45 min video! It’s 119 before taxes here. The case was cheaper!! Cheers!! 🍻
16 is still a favourite, but the price has made it very hard to keep on the shelf. I got a bit more flavour out of the 8 year, but agree with enjoying the Charred Oak.
@@WhiskyNeighbour it actually dropped $20 a bottle here in Ontario. For a while it was$145. Then it kept creeping up until it reached $185. Now, it's $165.

@whiskyonthewestcoast I agree, as I said, a hero of mine for sure! For peat in summer, this would be a favorite. Cheers!

Thanks again James! I could really see how the 4th could be a favourite for some. It's good, but I enjoyed the Charred Oak a little more.

Another great comparison… new Offerman is great summer dram!
Cheers 🥃
@@justwhisky Agreed, and thanks!
Nice on Jon! I really enjoyed all the Offermans released. My list would be, #1 Charred Oak #2 Rum Cask #3 Guinness Cask #4 First Release. Cheers Jon 🥃
@thewhiskyenthusiast great order! I might put Guiness ahead of Rum, but I don't have it on the shelf, so hard to recall. Thanks for sharing!

@christinecamley Dolph? Wow, I'll have to go watch! Also, glad you found a case!
@@WhiskyNeighbour Yes!! Lol! Dolph was fabulous! You will love the video!! Jon you have to make one too!! 🙂
I got charred oysters, that Lagavulin smoke that grabs me big time and charred pineapple. I didn’t find it too sweet’
@christinecamley Charred pineapple! Yes that is certainly there
Their 8 year old tasted like raw spirit and some black tea. It was a strong no buy for me. I like the charred iak 11 year old, but the 16 is so good.

I think it’s just bourbon and rum but I need to double check. I think I get a lot more brine and smoke!
@@christinecamley I was getting the brine, I would also agree with your charred pineapple note.
@@WhiskyNeighbour Hey you have a sophisticated palette so I am thrilled you picked up the charred pineapple!! 🙂
