    Thanks for the update. Overall, it seems that the costume worked well for you.

    I've done the same thing with one of my outfits. It's been built up for function as the years have gone by.
    I got some shoulder armour because I thought it was cool and had an underbust I was keen to wear with it. I liked the "ranger/archer" look with the long shirt coming down to points around the knees. I also liked the idea of "short" sleeves so my hands were free but I liked the medieval type draping sleeve. Wore it to the medieval and Al seemed pretty cool. Started wearing it to my larp group and found some issues.
    When I held the bow to shoot, the sleeve flap got in the way of the string and I didn't like that, so I started to roll it up out of the way. Eventually I made another shirt with the ends at a point still but without sleeves as I thought it would also be cool to show of the "muscles" as I fought.
    I wore the new shirt and armour to a pirate ball and found that didn't work because now I had no layer of protection from my armour straps rubbing on my skin. So I made another shirt with one sleeve for armour protection.
    Eventually I wanted to add fur to the outfit within the empty spaces. I really like Avatar Korra's half skirt thing so I made one out of fur. I was able to find a furry scarf of some kind of similar fur style that I was able to pick apart and use as a covering over the shoulder that didn't have armour on it. I had one elastic band connecting them in place around my ribs and one under my arm to keep that stable too. Now I had the same problem as the sleeveless armour before with the elastic band for the shoulder fur... So I made another shirt!
    The final shirt over the years of wearing this out fit has on the front a long flap that comes to a point. Because I wear a half skirt that it open at the front the front flap looks quite nice and I took away the flap at the back because there was no need for it with the fur there now. One sleeve to protect me from my shoulder armour straps and the other side still sleeveless BUT an added flap under the armpit so the elastic band doesn't rub on my skin.
    I had a similar issue with sword placement on the belt too. I got a new sword that was bigger so when it was on my belt it was on my left side. But having my bow in my left hand I would knock it and I didn't like it so I changed it over to rest on my right side.
    It'll be really good to see how your outfit could progress over the years with many years of use and character development determining what will be more useful to them.

      Thanks for the story! It is one of my favourite things with larp costumes, how they become alive and more than just simple costumes after the years. I did indeed film the making of the costume, and then made this video with the intent to just follow it as it changes over the events. With the summer event coming up I also plan to make one on the adaptations I make for the warmth. I hope to be able to look back in a few years and see all of the changes in the videos :)

    My Scavvy costume has been evolving since day 1, both during the events, and in between. I'm happy to see that the tradition is being honoured. ;-)

      Of course! You can't think of every single thing before hand, such as weapon placement. Which reminds me, I need to hide a few more weapons in this costume I think.

    1:10 That's interesting that they don't allow you to shoot, but don't give you a workaround. In one of the groups that I joined a while back, you could simply pull back your bow and aim it at them, and... I think they called it a mercy shot? So essentially you'd draw your bow at them, declare mercy, and it'd count as if it were a normal shot, that way you could take them out, without actually shooting them at such a short range

      There is something like it at the event: in case you already have your bow drawn and someone still comes charging up to you, you can call 'point blank' in which case it is an automatic hit. But when you notice combat getting really close to you and for some reason you can't backup (or if you ran out of arrows) you will still need to draw a melee weapon, and ehm, preferably quickly ;)

    Great practical idea for keeping things pretty but functioning in game!

      Thanks! I do think for larp every thing should be added/changed with practicality in mind.

    Hi Mariska. Do you shoot left handed because your left eye is the dominant one? That's my "problem" too. But I shoot right handed none the less. I do it with both eyes open, so it dosen't really matter. Maybe this would work for you too? Nice work btw. Greetings from Germany 👍

      I am indeed shooting like this because my left eye is dominant (just like my left leg, I am weird like that) I have done normal archery for quite a while so I am so used to one-eyed left hand shooting that I can't really do it the other way round. But thanks for the tip nonetheless!

    Hi, yes, hi, hello, new here. Couldn't you also draw the dagger from your left hip with your left hand, and have it be a quicker draw since your hand doesn't have to go as far and you don't have to move your other hand out of the way?
    Although that assumes you'd be comfortable with a reverse grip on the dagger. Which, since you're trading places with it, I'm going to guess that you're going for a standard grip on the dagger. Nevermind! Ignore me (unless you don't want to)

    • @MarisArmoury
      @MarisArmoury  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I am indeed not too fond of a reverse grip. Aside from that, I have since also upgraded to a short sword because I am not going to use my bow at night, and a short sword is a bit nicer to use as main weapon. That is, not to say it is my only backup weapon, with all the pockets it works great to just stash daggers everywhere ;)

    i'd consider 25lbs to be the minimum for a LARP bow, mine is about 28lbs, downgraded from like 35lbs.

    • @MarisArmoury
      @MarisArmoury  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I find 25lb to be a nice larp weight as well. It makes sure it won't hurt but still doesn't drop the arrow too quickly. As said my previous bow was 20lb but that was mainly because at that time I still had normal archery every week. And there you shoot quite a few more arrows and my back couldn't take 25lb for that longer time period. But buying a separate bow for larp would be a bit much, so my bow breaking ended up being a good thing for me 😅

    That's basically how most of my costimes become 'good' - just iterate :-D

      Always try to add/change at least one thing per event!
