Last time I was there I saw a dude like 275 stuck in the current toward Alligators, paddling and not goin anywhere. Lifeguard about a buck 20 grabs a paddle board goes out to him, the big dude grabbed his leash and that little dude paddled both of them to the beach in seconds through the rip current and all , like it was nothin. Locals are beasts there! Then a dad and 2 boys (both under 13 yrs. old ) paddle straight to Alligators it was big and breaking just outside the rocks, looked dangerous as hell. I was pretty blown away
@@JD_sarcasm I have so many near death surfing experiences surfing north shore. Countless times I’ve been stuck in currents paddling til I’m about to cry … questioning life. Funniest/scariest experience surfing chuns was a day when sets were big and current is super strong … I’m on a soft top, everyone else out there is on short boards and look very experienced. I’m on the inside trying to paddle back out and I’m paddling out to the left, I’m looking at the horizon seeing the sets roll in … a group of surfers are paddling back to shore, to my right/their left … we pass in the water, one guy says to me “dude the current is rippping” he looks at me questioningly because I’m in no man’s land … then the sets roll in and I’m in the perfect spot, they’re too deep in … the wave takes me, I shoot down the face still on my belly … I hit the bottom and I get on one knee, lean just enough and get absolutely barrelled … on an used and abused wavestorm. I get shot out the barrel and now I’m in a washing machine/current, in the rocks behind the houses. I went from questioning life, to the most exhilarating moment in my life, right back to wondering if I’m gonna die in the next thirty seconds. To top it off I have asthma, and I’m so spent and high on adrenaline/anxiety I’m having an asthma attack and I’m digging in my back pocket trying to unzip it and get my inhaler without it falling out of my hands and losing it.
Hey man I’ve been able to do all the basics on a wave storm I feel like I’m entering that intermediate level what board should I buy next I was thinking a fish
What board would you recommend for an intermediate surfer like me? I can ride up to 8-foot waves (greenface), but idk if my wavestorm is good for me. I am 5'7 and only weigh about 110 pounds, so I physically don't have the strength to duck-dive that 8-foot board (it's too buoyant for me to push under the water). So do you recommend a smaller type of surfboard?
You have to look at volume. You could ride a shorter board that is wider and not as thick as a wavestorm. You might like a fish board around the 6'5 range but its hard to tell what you'll like.

It's insane how deceptively forbidding the waves are up close on the North Shore. From ashore, it can look like little ripples.

I had one awesome but the foam was a bit soft for me so I got a beach cruiser soft top and I spoke the extra stiffness

Yeah, a fish isn't a bad idea. Maybe something around 6'5 with enough volume to still give you paddle power and stability.
