  • In this episode we take a fast landscape photography tour through the Lake District to four easy to access locations. I got one of my best pictures at one of them! On this diverse tour in both subject, style, and the outcome we visit Castlerigg Stone Circle, The Lone Tree at Buttermere, Ashness Pier and the Kelly Hall Tarn south of Torver. If you've never been to the Lake District you should! It's immensely beautiful!

    Could not have been more surprised or more delighted that you started with Buttermere. I spent my summers there as a child and have dreamed of returning. The plan autumn of 2024, please God. I hope to spend at least a month or more there. Thank you so much. This was lovely.

    You are correct in saying you need to spend a lot more time in the Lake District. What you saw here is just the tip of the iceberg regarding what the area has to offer. My parents grew up hiking the Lake District every opportunity they had. A stunningly beautiful spot.

    Amazingly ironic how those previously unwanted highlights in the clouds turned out to totally make the lonely tree photo. Spectacular, Mads. Simply spectacular!!

    • @MadsPeterIversen
      @MadsPeterIversen  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      This kind of highlight is fine because it's controllable, it's those even stronger highlights directly hit by the sun :)

    Hi Mads, I don't know how I'd managed to miss this but I've only just found it. I live on the edge of the Lake District and it's the focus of my photography and videos. I felt a huge amount of pride as you described the beauty of the place that I have chosen to call home. I've watched your videos for a while and allowed you to introduce me to places all across Europe that I didn't know existed so it is strange to see you work in a landscape that I know so well. Next time you visit be sure to spend a bit more time here, least of all to allow those of us that enjoy your videos so much to buy you a pint. It is after all the least we can do.

    • @MadsPeterIversen

    Another great video in your Britain series. The Lake District is wonderful, but can be difficult due to the number of people, and the rain! Terrific shot of the lone tree. Keep 'em coming Mads!

    Love the 2nd shot - pandemic, what a cool mood. Love the lonely tree and how the sky lit it up from behind. Love the pier and the movement of the sky. Nice lighting on the last picture.

    The Lake District is one of my favorite places in the world, although I haven't been there in more than 15 years. After watching your video I want to go back. You also have encouraged me to look at all weather, even cold, cruddy, rainy weather as something not to run and hide from, but an opportunity to be explored. As you have shown, sometimes lousy weather can yield the most amazing scenes and moods. It's worth persisting - even with a hole in the wellie.

    • @MadsPeterIversen
      @MadsPeterIversen  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hehe yes! It's very well worth it! Never heard about a person who didn't get dry again ;) I hope you get to return :)

    What an amazing episode again... I really like the honesty about when things don't go according to the plan, I always get frustrated when the sky shows colours at the "wrong" side or time... and I used to think it only happens to me :P I'm not a naturally patient person but landscape photography helps me to stay positive and take the best of what conditions I get :) enjoy the Lofoten trip!

    • @MadsPeterIversen
      @MadsPeterIversen  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I think it's very important to realize ones "bad" sides and then learn how to better them and becoming a better person. If Landscape Photography gives you that on top of great photos and video it's just perfect! :)
      Thank you very much Nina :)

    I totally get why you would have preferred to compress your focal distance with your drone, but I also think having not done so you gave an excellent sense of the enormity of the stone circle's surroundings and it's (historical) remoteness. Nice.

    WOW!!!! What can I say. You go from strength to strength. These images were awesome and very inspiring. This is not far from where I was born and I haven't seen it in 53 years since I came to Australia. This video gave me goosebumps. Thank you for sharing.

    I look forward to your videos always. It’s both daunting and exciting to see how much better you did than I would have done. Getting both branches of the lone tree to line up so exactly with the bright spot in the clouds was worthy of Cartier Bresson. On a more mundane note, I was pleased to see how you split the horizon with the tops of the lines of piers.

      Thank you times two Stuart! That's a huge compliment as Bresson has really grown on me the past year or so :)

    Once again a superbly crafted video. I first saw your videos when you were at the Feroe Islands and have watched all your videos to date. Very inspiring and yes, you have actually managed to get me to brave the weather and shoot more in foul weather. My favorite image from this video is of the stone circle panorama. Spectacular lighting of a location I have never seen before from the Lake District.
    Thanks for all your hard work.

    Really looking forward to hearing what you have to say about composition, Mads! Not every video can be an epic journey, and that's OK! It's obvious that you put a lot of into effort thinking about and working your compositions in the field, and improvising when the weather conditions demand it. Thoughtful compositions (especially using the clouds) seem to help you create unique shots rather than simply copying what others have done. I look forward to hopefully learning something new as I work to improve. I think my biggest challenge as a photographer is just getting out more to photograph, and not making excuses because of the weather not always being what I want. Your video a couple of episodes back really helped me re-evaluate that, and I'm going to push myself to get wet and uncomfortable more often - all part of the adventure! Enjoy Lofoten (so jealous)! ;)

      Thank you for such a thoughtful comment Jon! Really happy you might go out in the rain and see what happens! It's really about embracing what you've got and maybe also think that extra step into "how do I imagine this photo will look like after postprocessing" :)
