We need graphic cards with upgradable ram. I'm old enough that I remember that I had an svga card that you could upgrade for 1 to 2 mb of ram. And even some early 3d cards (and even sound cards) could add chips or ram modules. No many people upgraded, but has to be an standard. If I can buy a motherboard with the ram I want, why I cannot choose the graphic chip, the ram and even the graphic output or fans? Also you are only talking about nvidia. There is also amd that it's competitive, and now Intel also joined the fight with competitive middle range cards.
@@calebs-take Well, the 7900XTX is a 4k Monster. and I don't play many E-sport titles. So I know I will be good for a while. In 3-5 years I will bump it from Ultra settings to Medium/High when Wu Kong 2 or what ever the next stress test is comes out. :) But Yes, I absolutely agree with your message here! The only reason to ever upgrade a GPU is if there are technological features you really want like ray tracing or DLSS. Or if you've made a decision to make a generational leap in either graphics or resolution. But those are personal things that dont require a new GPU every year.
Is this guy crazy or what?! Running games on max settings at native 4K resolution with RTX On brings the 4090 to its knees. That's why they made DLSS to fake the 4K experience. 3:47 Also 27 inch 1440P is the sweet spot, not 24 inch 1080p. We don't live in 2012 anymore. 7:37 New GPU generations don't come out every year. The closest thing we got to a new generation was the 700 series that came out in 2013, which was after the 600 series from 2012, and even that wasn't a next generation because it was just a refresh of the Kepler architecture.
Most of you guys don't realize developers set FPS caps on some of these games, such that you wont exceed a certain fps no matter how much GPU power you throw at it, there are ways around it of course, but you risk a less smooth experience - look it up,
Plus if a game is 'bulky' & heavy & Buggy badly optimized like many recent titles, it will still perform badly even on higher GPUs? an upgrade won't still solve these issues are ppl are assuming
@@calebs-take FPS is not capped. It's fluctuating between 60-65 fps. Also, people want more VRAM. Having 16GB is not cutting it for high-end gaming. Also, people want future-proofing, not to buy a mid-range 12GB GPU that will be obsolete in 2 years and then buy a new one every generation.
@Мирич-з4е I have a 10GB version RTX 3080 and have encountered no problems with my games, I play at 4K. Card released in 2020 and still running strong now - I'd say that's future proofing. People who have PCs need to learn how to correctly optimise settings on their games, because arbitrarily turning everything up to max literally just eats unnecessary performance, you are the people that Nvidia target with their new cards. Half the things you are maxing out, you won't even be able to see in motion with the naked eye and it's just costing you frames for no reason. Max settings is largely for still screenshots and bragging rights only. You can turn a few settings down and get two images side by side that look extremely similar, except one has bought you another 8-10 frames per second and the other is a glorified memory leak waiting to happen.
@@Longlostpuss 10 gb vram is still acceptable 8 gb vram is obsolete by today standards on newer titles they blow past 8 gigs even at 1080p if you are maxing out settings or even you if do use lower settings on some newer titles they still take or max out 8 gigs of vram you have to completely drop your settings to low to run fine on 8 gig of vram on latest titles.
Some of you guys need to realize that part of the reason the FPS doesn't exceed a certain point is because the developer has put an FPS cap. No matter how much GPU power you throw at it, it will not exceed that FPS, or it will run badly when it does. Look it up! This is why I was saying even if you get the 50 series, if the developer has capped the FPS at 4k, you will not exceed it no matter how much power you throw at it, or the game will still run with issues. Plus, if the game is just badly optimized anyway and has many bugs as we seem to have with most recent releases, even if you have the best GPU, it will still run poorly. So if you upgrade it just so you can play EVERYTHING smoothly, you will still be disappointed.
@@calebs-take Most games have unlocked framerates unless you use v-sync. You can take advantage of a 4090 if you're using a high-refresh 4K monitor AND you wanna max out games end even turn on RT. The 40 series also have features like Frame Generation that the 30 series didn't have and we don't know if this'll be the case with the 50 series. High-end GPUs are luxary producst, they aren't a must have, you don't NEED them but it's ok to WANT them and if you have the money and this is your hobby, why not?
With the Pimax Crystal Super coming out soon, the 5090 will likely still struggle with 90fps and the HMD is capable of 120Hz apparently. I'm not sure if that it's even capable to get 120Hz at that resolution without compression or foveated rendering with the crazy high resolution of both of the panels.
Question: would you prefer ever more powerful GPUs every other year? OR would you rather have more better games you can play on a reasonably capable rig?
First, it depends with your use case, the 3060 is still the most popular GPU for 1080p gaming, it will not handle proper 4K if that's what you're looking for Second it depends on the platform if they accept returns coz with used stuff you never know, & also compare prices coz you don't want to overpay for a used GPU But, for regular gaming at 1080p, the 3060 might be better coz of much higher v-ram,
And you want to make sure your system will be well optimized - as in No Bottlenecks - meaning you want to pair whichever GPU you get with a CPU & monitor that will get the most performance out of it, sometimes people think the GPU is bad but in reality they paired it with a CPU that can't keep up with it, hence chocking the overall performance ... pc-builds.com is great to check for this
I would certainly use the 5090, unlimited resolution in VR would be great.. especially using UEVR, the only great game my 3080 handled with the UEVR mod was Stray.. with 60fps lows..
Beware some mods are not properly optimized; there are games that are so badly optimized they simply wont be smooth on ANY GPU - maybe so that way we always 'need' to upgrade, like chasing waterfalls. For high fps current titles 4060 - 4070 Super - 4080 - 4090 are already good...
Developers & hardware engineers are too focused on the tech side of things instead of optimizations & just delivering more better games we can enjoy on what we already have,
@@calebs-take yes i know, but i think UEVR is well optimized, it just enables VR in Unreal engine games, and the unreal engine already natively supports VR. The only problem is OFC that rendering these games in VR is much more demanding than on a screen, and they are not optimized for that.
I still use the 1070 gtx and I play all my favorite games in 4k +60fps. For me getting a 5090 is not only about playing today is about playing everything in the following 10 years with all fps I want in 4k. The same it was for me the 1070 playing in 2k, when you build a new PC every 6/8 years is worth it.
Then you're in the right mindset for 5090, that makes sense if it's a long term thing... I was attempting to address these videos telling ppl to not get 40 series GPUs yet & wait for 50 series, without addressing whether they needed such an upgrade or not, & missing out on Black Friday sales coz they're waiting for something they don't need,
There's also this thing of ppl being made to feel like they need the latest whenever something comes out, without asking themselves whether they ACTUALLY need it... phones, cars, you name it,
I still use a gtx 1070 ti with 3440 x 1440 at 144hz.. I don't see 144 fps very often but it runs nicely... I notice some sizzle in verticals when sim racing in Assetto Corsa...doesn't bother me, it's never going to be real. The fact it's very quiet makes me cautious of changing it.
I'm blown away that many people are still running 1080p, I've been running 4k for 5 years now and before that was running 1440p for 3 years. However, even on my 3090 I'm still having to run DLSS and sometimes turn down other settings to hit 60fps minimums, I fully plan on going to the 5090 and finally being able to consistently hit my screens refresh rate of 144hz, on 4K and max setting. I realize some titles may not be optimized well and I'll have to still use DLSS, but that's far better than where I am at now.
Great video, and great viewership for only 19 subs. Good luck on your road to 1k subs and beyond. Though, I'm in the category that this video doesn't apply to, and I need the upgrade. As I have a beautiful new 1440p 360Hz refresh rate monitor, but my 2080ti can't hang at 1440p. My FPS isn't where I need it, and I can't fully enjoy VR at high fidelity and high FPS. But for those happy to play at 1080p, or who have a newer GPU, this all makes sense. I usually upgrade every other cycle, this time I waited 2 cycles as the 4090 was so expensive, and they never released a 4090ti.
The thing is that even for VR, the 5090 will still not be anywhere near delivering the 'Real Life' Fidelity people are seeking for VR. In other words, it might be better to just wait for several generations of GPUs to actually get a fidelity that will satisfy extremely high, real life Graphics VR players seek. I made the video because I got fed up with people telling players that they should not upgrade their GPUs yet & wait for the 50 series, without explaining whether they will actually need it for their use cases. Only Jay 2 Cents mentioned this b4,
@caleb-stake Oh, I fully appreciate that, and your video. But it's been 6 years since I've upgraded my GPU, and the 4090 makes Cyberpunk in VR look amazing, but the 5090 will make it even better! That along with streaming or cutting time on editing videos, will just overall benefit my use case. But for most, you're 100% right, it's unnecessary, especially if you already have a recent GPU.
@@notaras1985 I recently upgraded from a GTX1080 8GB to a RX 7800 XT 16 GB for the very reason of need more VRAM. Running Skyrim SE with Mantella and a local LLM, I needed the beefier card. Also moderen titles need more than 8GB VRAM. Though I do agree you don't need the 5090. People don't buy top of the line cards because they need them though - but because they want them. Me - I look for bang for buck. And the 7800 XT fits that perfectly.
4k absolutely maxed setting in b06 and i get around 100fps average and peak around 120. Turning settings down slightly i can get around 150 or more if i really want to sweat in ranked. The difference after 100 is barley noticeable however. Im beyond satisfied with my 4080
I get where you are coming from, but there is something to be said for the value of longevity; I mean, take a look at the 1080 ti --- that thing did it all for a long time, and even though it was expensive, it provided a lot of value to those who got on board at launch (it's basically as good as the 3060 12GB that you are currently using, even though it is 2.5 Gen older). If you compare that to someone who bought, let's say a 960, then had to upgrade to a 2060 because of VRAM, and then felt like they had to upgrade to a 4060 because of VRAM again, and compare that to the 1080 ti amortized across it's useful life, I'm pretty sure the person who bought the 1080 ti ultimately spent less money. I think the 5090 might have the potential to be another GOAT product...
I agree, the biggest selling point for the 5090 is VRAM, but we'll see when it drops. I'm definitely upgrading my 3060 to a 4090 - I suspect the price MAY drop after the 5090 launches & I plan to squeeze all value out of it as I have done the 3060. The 1080ti & 2080ti were Awesome, I saw somewhere Nvidia guys said it was a 'mistake' to make them so good that ppl didn't need any upgrade for a long time, I hope the 5090 is so, but I doubt they will repeat that 'mistake'.
While what you are saying is somewhat relevant to most of pc users however, the reason why I went to 4K is to get that crisp graphic quality. At the same time, coming from high refresh monitors have pampered me with fluidity while having awesome graphics. Even with the 4090, 4K high settings with all the eye candy turned on is just currently performing. Not overkill.
It's more like we may have enough GPU power nowdays... it's better for the industry to focus on optimizing games to run smoothly NOW, rather than pushing tech year to year & reaching for 'heavy', poorly optimized, ever power-hungry games
@ ha I was just gonna reply the trend of studios not optimizing games is one of the reasons to power thru these new titles. Not to mention the newer game engines require quite a beast to pc to perform and there is a big pool of players who are gaming on lower tier pc trying to max everything in games and when it’s not performing they review bomb.
Im still rocking with my 3060ti epic settings on some games reaching 144fps (Any games I play I capped it to 144fps) and medium settings on other games to get atleast 55-65fps. Palworld I can get 90-110 fps with high settings DLSS on quality. Monitor: Samsung G5 32" inch 144hz 2560x1440 CPU: Ryzen 7 5800x RAM: 64gb 3600mhz
As long as you're comfortable with the performance. Have a buddy still rocking the ancient 2050, & able to get around 70 fps on Cyberpunk 2077 1080p high settings, he will need an upgrade for sure but it makes the point,
Most people don't seem to understand that developers play a part in deciding FPS of games. Indiana Jones was generally better optimized than most bulky games - it can run even on some GTX cards. I was replying to some comments that I can bet even for the 50 series, some future titles are still going to run poorly anyway if they aren't well optimized from developers end, or if they put an FPS cap
Definitely go for it. You know how to maximize your Tech for every dollar you spent if you're still working the 1070. I know a reviewer who used the 1080 TI until late last year when he finally upgraded, and two big reviewers who used 2080 TIs until earlier this year when they finally got 4090s. With your mindset you'll definitely keep the 50 series if you get it for a very long time & squeeze as much value out of it as you can. I was bashing the people who upgrade GPUs & phones, & cars every year or two, for example they just got the 4090 this year, & again try to get the 5090 next year... which doesn't seem to make much sense
These are Optimization issues; developers & hardware engineers are too focused on tech that they don't optimize games like they used to; even if you got the 5090, I GUARANTEE another game will drag on it; this way we always 'need' an upgrade,
Aren't we better off having games made to run on our current hardware we have right now, instead of them just pushing tech - as in would you rather have better graphics & more powerful GPUs every other year? OR better games that are optimized for your current rig?
Legitimate upgrade reason. You seem to understand the point & use your tech to the max first... I know 2 big reviewers who used 2080Tis till earlier this year when they finally upgraded to 4090s
why did you pit yourself in a position to where you need to spend an additional 2k for a product you alreay spent a k on..3k for gaming? and thats just two components..so like 5-6k..what?? you better not be broke or in debt
I’m running a 2080 TI and just purchased 4k oled monitor as well. Planning on buying a 5090 for the 32 gigabytes of vram and hopefully some future proof.
This is reasonable because you will be skipping one GPU generation, & it appears you squeeze maximum value from them, 5070 will serve you for long - I was bashing ppl who can't wait to upgrade the highest end GPUs year to year as if they're missing out on something huge, like someone who just got the 4090 & is still planning to get the 5090, & so on...
that will serve you well for some time, especially for regular gaming modern & future titles, I know a big name reviewer still rocking a 2080Ti till now & is not in a big hurry to upgrade, 4070 you'll be set for regular gaming,
@ hey can you do a video with a rtx 4070 from eBay I want someone to do it I see them selling very cheap like about 150 and so don’t know if it’s true or working
Double check, almost all competitive games are preferred at 1080p, it's just more stable & 'mature', plus screen size issues - tho 48" is cool. I had a 56" gaming TV & after a month I went back to 24" OLED monitor,
Yeah I also play on a 48" oled tv, my 3060ti has no problem running it. Only midwits think that you need a 4090 to get 4K. 4K is enough pixel density for scaling/upscaling to work much better than on a 1080/1440p screen, so it doesn't take that much GPU power to get better image quality from basically the same amount of input resolution. 4K TV also have strobing modes, meaning you only need 60fps to get 150fps+ of motion clarity. At 120fps ingame you get over 240fps of motion clarity for free
@@astrea555Only midwits think all games are equal. There are demanding games the 4090 chokes on at 4K. Two big examples are DCS and Microsoft Flight Simulator. Let’s see your 3060ti play MS Flight Sim at 4K and watch it chug along at 23fps. Not everyone plays COD.
i need to upgrade because i only have 6 gb free vram with my rtx 3060ti. I have a standard consumption of 2gb with RTX Voice, Discord, Chrome, 3 Monitors. As a result, I have strong 1% drops down to the low 2-digit range, if not single digits.
Makes sense because it seems you keep your GPUs long time - maximum utilization. Such an upgrade makes sense here since you'll keep it through a generation. I was bashing the guys who believe they must upgrade with every GPU release as if they're 'missing something' even if they already got the current latest one,
YES, it's like, the hardware is pretty good now... could we just get better, more complete games we can Enjoy NOW on the pretty good hardware we Have? -- By the Way, who the hell asked for PS5 Pro, when we don't even have enough PS5 games?
Pretty Confident a 4090 can handle VR just fine, for current requirements, I saw an article yesterday that the 5090 might actually disappoint; plus it's like we need better games now, not more & more GPUs
@@calebs-take I'm waiting until the bench marks are in to determine if getting a 5090 is worth it. Having more GPUs in the market helps with keeping the prices down, even if it is a couple 100.
Hot take. Too much painting with a wide brush. People playing at 4k playing demanding games will most certainly benefit from a 5080 or 5090. If you're at 1080p using a 4090 you're an idiot.
So when do we actually stop chasing these ever increasing resolutions & actually focus on getting good games like we used to before, when the resolution was lower but the games were much better - in the 360, PS2 era, As in where is all of this going? 4K, 8K, 10K, at what point is it enough? - it could also be that most people still play 1080P because they realize there is no point to keep chasing higher & higher resolutions & just enjoy the game NOW,
They always say you don't need one... until you do.... THAT SAID, if you have a 4090 you most likely don't need a 5090, BUT, if like me you have not updated your system in 8-10 years and even though it was top 1% of machines when you got it it's starting to struggle now, there is no point buying a 4090 system with the 5090 just about to release. That's what i'm doing, i got about 8k marked for a new gaming system that will most likely last me for the next decade so i may as well wait.
This is the right mindset, if you're assembling something for the long term then of course, I was just getting tired of these videos telling gamers to skip black Friday sales on GPUs to wait for the 50 series - without mentioning if they will actually need it for their use case - for example a guy that just wants to get into gaming for fun or wants to upgrade older rig to play current titles & some future proofing doesn't need a 50 series
I use a 1080 and a ultra wide 5120x1440. I use a 3080 FTW and wonder is i should upgrade to get everything maxed out. The 5120x1440 has a max of 120hz but I like to crank up the eye candy and had to turn it down on Wukong, what games might be next for turning the setting down? So I feel maybe the upgrade could be an idea.
Depends 1440p still enough but you cant go all out od some games i got a rx 6900 xt and runs most games well but i want to set everything a max and still have good performance so looking to upgrade either a 8000 series or 5000 but will depend on price if im getting a overprice graphics that offer almost the same but at double price them no
thats true...im build my pc with brand new AM5 in 2023 and using 4080 in 4k resolution this is realy enough to reach 60fps in max setting in some AAA games and im enjoy it
Yes. They use FOMO & complicated language these days to market. By the way, Nvidia actually regretted making the 1080ti & 2080ti because they held up so long & couldn't get people to upgrade. I'm concerned they may start making crapy cards that go obsolete faster. The 4080 is solid man, as long as driver updates keep coming, it will have a good long life.
yes, that card was pretty solid, but for gaming most likely you'll need some upgrade soon, but yes, I know a pro reviewer with 1M+ subscribers who used a 2080Ti till early this year, when he upgraded
rtx 40's are being discontinued & replaced by rtx 50's of course new pc builders would go for rtx 50's cuz there's not enough rtx 40's to go around other than rare chances to find at 2nd hand market places
I am upgrading from a og (hd) vive to a 4k pimax. *So I need 4x the memory bw. I need 4x the cores. Compared to my 1080ti. so I need approx 14k cores, 2TB mem BW. At 1,5TB/s BW it doesnt even scale 4x memory bandwidth. And why is there a mac on your desk????
@caleb-stake yeah i intentionally waited for the 5000 series, mostly since I spent the last few years upgrading my wife and kids pcs. Now I will treat myself to a 5090 and not think about an upgrade until the card burns out lol
damn you didnt even wait for the super variant..you bought the shitty first go of turing..now youre gonna go for another shit value card? 2 for 2 my boi!
I 100% agree with this video. I rock a 3080 Ti with an i7 13th gen on 32 gigs of rams and 2 TB high speed SSD and it runs everything well from Blender with ease to Unity to anything Adobe to gaming at 4K 60 - 90 fps and 90 - 160 fps at 1440p. Then I also rock a 4K oled laptop with an i7 11th gen and a 3060 with 64 gigs of rams and 2 TB high speed SSD. I can run any software on it well and for example playing Hogwarts at 70-90 fps at 1440p. Next, I have I think is the GOAT the 1080 Ti paired with an i7 8700k with 64 gigs of rams with 4 TB high speed SSD. And in 2024, that desktop isn't scared of high demanding games or software and can still push anything well. And for fun, I also own the Legion Go with a pretty impressive AMD APU that can run every games I throw at it and if I need more FPS, I simply use lossless Scaling and boom extra 30 fps or more. And whenever I want, it can also be a mini PC anytime. The only thing it can't do well is run any creator software, which sucks but it isn't meant for that. I am not a fan of companies but am a fan of my wallet and always wait for the price to be right. All I stated above that I invested into was bought at the right time when the price was right and a year to three after its release. And, never the latest tech but a generation prior. Now, if a company cannot deliver on a promise while overpricing, I won't even entertain the idea of wanting it because I dont fall easily for the hype. So, when the 50 series come out, if all the 40 series is slashed by half its price I might think about upgrading my GPU to the 4070 Ti super or 4080 and assuming Intel also slash its CPU prices in half, then get the i9 14th gen. But, that's at least another year or two down the road. I see the hype has had people buy without thinking just like people buying the PS5 Pro and now perhaps regretting which tome the launch was a disaster with the PS5 Pro unable to deliver. I havent owned a console since the PS2 the true GOAT and was wanting to invest into the PS5 Pro because of its PC architecture but the launch was a disaster and the PS5 Pro is a disappointment at this time. No matter how great the hype was, I am a fan of my wallet more. But all in all, I agree with this video 100%.
Got a 4090 and nope can't use my HMD at full resolution @ 120hz let alone 90hz NO modern game can be played with settings set to epic or even ultra. So YES I'm buying a RTX5090.
Guest what 😂😂 you wont be able with 5090 at least newer games old ok heres the thing nvidia is not making the same mistake of the 1080 ti a beast at a good price
1080Ti was legendary, For you most definitely, Get the 50 series if you can, you obviously understand how to max out your tech for every dollar, I know a big reviewer who used tm1080ti till late last year when he upgraded, 2 others used 2080tis till earlier this year
I swear there are ppl out there that just buy the latest cause they can, some dude buying a 4090 and now he’s gonna buy the 5090 cause he has the money 😂
Yeah, coz it makes no sense that somebody bought the 4090 last year, & then next year they're buying the 5090, & then buy the 6090 two years after that. It's the same as people who have to buy the latest phones every year, when basically nothing much has changed in the phones,
It makes sense why these companies keep getting bigger for selling the same stuff year to year & making you feel like this years one is absolutely the best upgrade that you need... & next year they will tell us the same thing... & laughing all the way to the bank,
I support upgrading when it makes sense; Like somebody who already has a 4090 is better off waiting like one or 2 more GPU generations before getting the next one - when something REALLY has changed
The funny thing is, when my friend build rendering rigs, they usually get triple or quad 4090s... Telling people that a single GPU is overpowered for gaming in that context is a bit ridiculous.. Yes it's a big expensive card for consumers, but who are you to judge if someone buys a hypercar instead of a family van..
Many ppl are misled into buying stuff they never needed for their circumstances, I've Clearly said if you're a 'regular gamer' you don't need these very top of the line cards. I don't think someone building a rendering or movie studio rig or something like that qualifies as a 'regular gamer' who just wants games to run smoothly. Only Jay 2 Cents discusses this issue, a few others try to address it in their build guides - most other big channels just talk 4k, 8k stuff most people don't care about yet & influencing ppl to think they also need these big GPUs.
@calebs-take fair point yes, but I also hear a lot of youtubers say that we simply shouldn't buy the 5090 because they're so expensive.. Considering prices in the enterprise segment and how close these top end cards are by comparison, I honestly don't get the point of such a statement.. Especially factoring in inflation.. But I agree that people should buy to cover their needs and nothing more, but that's still a bit relative on the GPU side depending on what level of grahipcs settings and resolution you expect to run, because by the end of the day, a 4090 will outperform a 4080...
That’s literally the main reason I’m getting one. Ultra settings with a 4090 and 7800x3d is still a little choppy. I get less than 30 fps a lot of times, especially flying in places like Tokyo. And I’m talking MSFS 2020. Not even 2024 yet.
My point exactly. But even for VR then, 5090 may still not be sufficient anyway - I can bet it will still lag & may still not be a good upgrade for that purpose anyway - until something super powerful that will be satisfactory for that use comes up later on,
I read all the comments here,so sad that ppl are really blinded by all the hype it causes. What is the problem about dlss?I don't care if it fakes real frames,as long as i can play it properly im happy, thanks because of dlss i don't need a newer gpu for a few years.
I need a 5090 for gaming and productivity. It`s faster and never fast enough, productivity only gets more punch and runs even smoother. Games are playable in higher settings so they will be better. There`s always an excuse to upgrade and i will buy it the minute it`s available.
should i repair a 4090 that i got for free instead of buying a new gpu that will not be the same class of card? It is actually a brand new card that was damaged in shipping.
You buy your GPU for your monitor. I have a 4090 and a 1440p ultrawide OLED 165hz. It’s great but i wouldn’t mind some more sharpness, smoother motion, and higher peak brightness. My endgame is an ultrawide 4K at 480hz. I doubt the 5090 will do it but I don’t think it’s fair to say that “this gives enough” without asking “what do you want”?
Definitely you're looking at the high end cards - but I would argue that many games are also poorly optimized these days, these companies & devs are so busy pushing tech at the expense of great, optimization, trying to make up for it with patches,
@@calebs-take i may upgrade when 4070 comes out and that's only if the price is right lets be real 600-800 eu for a mid range gpu is a big no for me and i wont get a 5060 just to play new games on low to mid graphics no ty i may as well keep my 1070 for the next 10 years

Love your video, sadly still too much ppl fall for this strategy and let themselves be manipulated by all the hype.Same for motherboards and cpu's,buy for what you need, not for what everyone wants or has.you don't need a 14900k or 9800x3d,im still playing a 9900ks paired with a 4080,and still playing all latest games on high fps.
4080 you'll be set for a While, especially with no bottlenecks on your build. Ppl are even scared to hear that it's okay to adjust some video settings at times, it's like plague or something. Plus I've been repeating that if the game ships unoptimized & 'bulky', it will still have issues on higher end GPUs anyway & the 5090 still won't solve it if it's just the game itself,
You mean scamtracing? After 6yr it's been out can you even name me 3 games that really use that and deliver? It's looks awful on most games and on those where it's looks ok you get unplayble fps...a real scamtracing💀😂
@@Joshda039 how do you go from a 1660 to a 5090..the fact that you started with that tells me you dont got money like that..unless you landed something new..why are you stepping out your lane like that? just pick up an 88xt thats basically a 4080 for 5 or 6..why go full retard and drop 2k?
I am for the most part an AMD guy since they're not trying to squeeze people for every dollar but I'd be lying if I said I wouldn't trade my 7800XT (amazing card for me) and get a 4080 or 4090.
considering AMD myself, I believe they are catching up & closing the gap, Intel as well. In next 5 years they will probably match every Nvidia offering, especially on the higher end, as public perception catches up as well. AMD is solid already in most use cases.
I will bet you here that Even with the 50 series, it will still not reach those amazing fps - frame rate is partly determined by the developers - look it up, if the game is badly optimized or has frame rate caps, it will not exceed the cap even if you throw a big GPU at it,
The Point Exactly, I even seen someone playing cyberpunk smoothly on a 2050 at 1080 High - I would rather they just optimize games to run better on current cards instead of pursuing newer cards year to year.
i still use my rtx 2060 i dont play much new games because they are awful and it still does my lightweight rendering on daz studio for my work.Great video. I agree you dont need to upgrade because something '"new"' came to the market. The rtx 3090 now costs 500 euros in the used market, tech loses value/money after some period of time
Right if I'd use a small 24 inches monitor I'd never need 4k and a stronger GPU than a RX 6700 XT ir so but while I love to play on my 65 inches LG OLED C1 I need at least a 4080 or a 7900 XT and I'm using a 4090.👍🏻
The marketing is for enthusiasts, not for the casual. There are people like myself who run 4K 240hz and VR some games just don't meet the high frame rate. (Black ops 6) Normally I would be using 1440 for the game but 4K looks a lot better in other games like sons of the Forest. By the way video editing with the 4090 very fast when you go to render it. There's a bunch of other reasons why enthusiasts buy the highest end GPU. you keep saying 1080p I guarantee you all of the enthusiasts will say that is a trash resolution unless you can run it at 400 plus FPS on a monitor that can handle it for competitive games. Have you ever experienced over 200 FPS competitive games? It's a serious upgrade from 60-100 My friend who has recently upgraded to 1440 to 240 it says that he sees stuff happen in slow motion now compared to 100-90 fps.
Playing devil’s advocate: 4090 cannot do 4k/60 on ultra settings without DLSS. This won’t get better as studios are now relying on DLSS to make up for their poor optimisation Me, I will need it as a niche VR sim racing player :)
finally someone who understands this issue, Developers determine the games performance, if a game is badly optimized it will have issues even on a 50 series GPU
@@dimitrirouge5568to be fair, DLSS sonetimes gives better image definition and clarity than native, but devs are cowering behind it little toi much sometimes
for people like me who love modded VR games from flat to VR you are absolutely wrong. Its already hard to max out FPSwith flat games that run in VR because it requires double the performance. Educate yourself friend! Not even 4090 RTX can handle a lot of these games maxed out.
Many of you gamers forget that developers put FPS caps on some games - Meaning no matter how much GPU power you throw at the game, it will not exceed a certain FPS at 4K. Yes, there are ways to bypass these caps, but you risk the game being unstable at that point. And remember that if games continue to launch as they've been launching these days - with lots of bugs & being shipped while they're still too 'bulky' & 'junky' - they will still run poorly even on higher end GPUs because they are not simply not well optimized or 'finished'. But of course for VR it makes sense to upgrade... but it would be even wiser to wait like 2 more GPU generations to be able to have that satisfaction in VR that you guys are looking for. But hey, it's okay to try the 50 series for VR at least,
IMO VR gaming is a gimmick same as 3D tv's...most gamers don't like it, but if you do that's cool and if you want max the VR gaming settings i think you getting your hopes too high since the 5090 won't be able to do the job either it's still way too soon for that, you should wait for the RTX 7090 it's gonna take 5-6yr to max out VR gaming fps.
@@APNANO-c6t VR gaming is a gimmick? Do you even VR buddy? I love VR games and I have played plenty of them. The fact they are modded from flat tv to VR now is incredible the amount of games you can play. How is that a gimmick? Btw, I'm not asking to max games at a 5090 for flat modded games to VR but it will be very close. Most games are already close to being maxed out on a 4090. Unfortunately my 3080 can't handle those games right now due to the double performance they require but some I have played and they are anything but disappointing. Have you heard of UEVR? The fact you are able to use 6DOF motion controllers in these games is incredible with what they can do these days. Most gamers who "dont like it" either A. can't afford a PC to actually run them or B. have never played them. Only games that are exclusive to whatever they own. Go play ghostrunner in VR and tell me thats not worth every penny spent :P
@wicked1rish no i don't VR as you can understand from my comment it's not my thing i tried it and didn't like it...it gives me headache same as 3d tv's back in the days i honestly just don't like all that, i prefer to play my games and watch movies in high quality on falt screen no VR no 3D.
@@APNANO-c6t fair enough. It's a shame people deal with motion sickness in VR. I have always been very fortunate not to. I know bodies can adapt to it if they so desire. I think it's the future myself and it isn't dying anytime soon with the modded community out there. I love VR and I can't ever see myself going back to flat screen games ever again
I don’t agree. I have a 4090. Playing cyberpunk on 4k native max settings with ray tracing tanks my fps all the way down to the 40’s, not to mention path tracing which is unplayable even with frame gen. For me even a 5090 won’t be enough for path tracing especially when i have a 240hz monitor
🤔 interesting, I've heard a few complaints but never frames dipping to 40s - Plus it sounds you're obviously an Enthusiast who needs every bit of detail possible - In any case, playing around the settings may help - otherwise if you NEED every detail, they've got you by the balls... you'll probably be upgrading everything they make forever because there will always be that little bit of visual that will lag on some game no matter what GPU you get
True, but for VR, you are better off waiting at least 2 more GPU generations to find something that will satisfy that 'real Life' fidelity VR players seek, the 50 series is still not satisfactory for that use case anyway,
Of course, it's more enthusiast territory & it's fine, I was attempting to address the insecurity & confusion 'regular gamers' may have about what to upgrade to for their needs,
i have a 3080 10gb, sometimes this card is great, until you run out of vram and your whole game goes to hell, I play on a 4k oled 32" monitor, and I wanna squeeze all the FPS I can out of it, that's why I want a 5090, and I know some games still won't give me those 240fps but when I'm playing first descendant on my 3080 and i gotta use DLSS performance cause otherwise my game will have 7 fps its frustrating, and it's not even the card that's the problem, game developers are taking this newer tech to simply optimize less, making it more difficult to run games. I still agree with this video, IF I had a 40 series I wouldn't be going for the 5090, or if I wasn't running a 4k OLED
I know a big reviewer who used a 2080ti till 2024 August, when he got a 4090, as long as you get drivers & are cool with the performance, use it until it genuinely can't keep up,
YES! the Exact message I was trying to get across! It's much better if you have the 4090 to wait 1 or 2 GPU generations b4 another upgrade - when something has REALLY improved in the GPUs. I was also getting tired of these videos telling ppl to stop buying 4090s & high-end GPUs on Black Friday deals & wait for the 50 series to upgrade - without addressing whether they actually were going to need it for their use cases
Speak for yourself. We are at least one generation away from running the Pimax Crystal at native resolution in demanding flight and racing sims. Want 4k triples? You better invest in the best. There is no such thing as “overkill”. My now 2 year old 4090 is worth just as much as I bought it for. I’ve literally lost nothing in two years and 1000 hours of simming. These cards when you consider the hours of entertainment you get are very cheap per hour. Buy a 4060 and be ready to upgrade a lot more often. Sure, if you are playing Halo then stick with your current card and be happy. But the idea that everyone purchasing the high end cards is just “chasing frames” is disingenuous.
I have a 4090 and an i9 14900kf. I'm glad I took the time to watch this. I think maybe I'll wait till the 6000 series. Thank you for explaining it's all hype.
You will be set for a while, waiting till the 60 series is a solid decision, I know professional reviewers with massive TH-cam channels who used 2080Tis till early 2024, when they finally upgraded to 4090s, then they wait one or 2 generations b4 the next big upgrade,
@calebs-take I will probably do that exact thing. I'm glad someone was honest about it and being reasonable. Tons of people are hyping the 5090 all over TH-cam.
Marketing is one thing. The real reason NVIDIA is killing it is in CUDA, Unifying everything . For Gamers, Marketing has seeped into every gamers head. AMD has adequate cards especially for the price. I Like NVIDIA, but i cant get behind a company that leeches of its customers. Like downgrading the GPU tier list while doubling prices. Limiting certain DLSS to certain Generations. RAM, dont get me started on only supplying the bare minimum of ram. DLSS uses more ram on these lower tier cards. Guess I'll have to stick to the used market until prices come back down to earth.
Most Thoughtful Comment.
Upgradable VRAM would be Awesome 😎💯
& in reality, Vram is the main issue with modern GPUs, if we can upgrade that, we'll be set for like REALLY LONG

@@calebs-take just got a 7900XTX at a deep discount. (was using a 2080ti.) This card will last me for at least 5-6more years.

RTX 4090 can barely keep up with everything on Ultra on 4K resolution. Without Frame Generation.

Exactly, these TH-camrs whining about cards being “overkill” is just ridiculous. They make the high end cards for a reason.

First, it depends with your use case, the 3060 is still the most popular GPU for 1080p gaming, it will not handle proper 4K if that's what you're looking for
Second it depends on the platform if they accept returns coz with used stuff you never know,
& also compare prices coz you don't want to overpay for a used GPU
But, for regular gaming at 1080p, the 3060 might be better coz of much higher v-ram,
And you want to make sure your system will be well optimized - as in No Bottlenecks - meaning you want to pair whichever GPU you get with a CPU & monitor that will get the most performance out of it, sometimes people think the GPU is bad but in reality they paired it with a CPU that can't keep up with it, hence chocking the overall performance ...
pc-builds.com is great to check for this
@caleb-stake it's the TI variant

I realize some titles may not be optimized well and I'll have to still use DLSS, but that's far better than where I am at now.
yep, steam player data. The most widely used GPU is still the RTX 3060 and over 50% of people still play at 1080P and prefer 1080P
The reason you'd upgrade is obvious: VRAM. VRAM VRAM.
It's only 28
@@notaras1985 I recently upgraded from a GTX1080 8GB to a RX 7800 XT 16 GB for the very reason of need more VRAM.
Not overkill.
point is correct, but remember just as some games still drag on 4090s high settings, some will still drag on 5090s,
It's more like we may have enough GPU power nowdays... it's better for the industry to focus on optimizing games to run smoothly NOW, rather than pushing tech year to year & reaching for 'heavy', poorly optimized, ever power-hungry games
I'm waiting for an Intel B780 card with 20 GB RAM, a 384-bit bus, TDP of 300W, and costing only $400.

As long as you're comfortable with the performance. Have a buddy still rocking the ancient 2050, & able to get around 70 fps on Cyberpunk 2077 1080p high settings, he will need an upgrade for sure but it makes the point,
I feel like there wont be a cpu out there that wont bottleneck it unless u are on 4k. Im gonna do a 9800x3d and 4090 for 3840x1600
pc-builds.com can check for any bottlenecks, enter CPU & GPU & it'll calculate
Problem is games are so poorly optimized on POC that GPUs have to work harder than they should. Alan Wake 2 struggles to reach 4k 60fps on a 4090.
I’m not going to buy it but I currently have a 4090. I’m so EAGER to compare the TWO!
Im runing a 1070 and cant wait for 5090 to come out 😂
Definitely go for it.
I play MSFS2024 in VR with super sampling at max level and let me tell you this.... I need the RTX5090
@@pedroarraztoa2789 which is why you need all 5 infinite stones to defeat them
I have a 2080 ti, but i now have a 32" 4k oled... I NEED to upgrade. I am upgrading for the future.
Legitimate upgrade reason.
You seem to understand the point & use your tech to the max first... I know 2 big reviewers who used 2080Tis till earlier this year when they finally upgraded to 4090s
You should get the 5090 if you can coz you'll keep it for years & use it to the max 👍
why did you pit yourself in a position to where you need to spend an additional 2k for a product you alreay spent a k on..3k for gaming? and thats just two components..so like 5-6k..what?? you better not be broke or in debt
I’m running a 2080 TI and just purchased 4k oled monitor as well. Planning on buying a 5090 for the 32 gigabytes of vram and hopefully some future proof.
im on a 3070 8GB, i think i want to get 5070 when it drops but probably not think about it ever again
Great video!!
Glad you enjoyed it
240hz? thats not even enough, it still flickers. i can still see every single mouse cursor.
In that case, you may want to wait 2 or 3 more GPU generations b4 upgrading,
I have scored a 4070 from a family after there son died and I got it for 300 dollars it’s so dam good don’t think I will upgrade for now
that will serve you well for some time, especially for regular gaming modern & future titles, I know a big name reviewer still rocking a 2080Ti till now & is not in a big hurry to upgrade, 4070 you'll be set for regular gaming,
@ hey can you do a video with a rtx 4070 from eBay I want someone to do it I see them selling very cheap like about 150 and so don’t know if it’s true or working
I play on a 48” 4k OLED, and I would never go back. The only reason some many people are on 1080p due is due to costs.
a 4080/4090 can handle that screen just fine,
Double check, almost all competitive games are preferred at 1080p, it's just more stable & 'mature', plus screen size issues - tho 48" is cool.
I'm on a 55 4k screen. Need mo powah
i need to upgrade because i only have 6 gb free vram with my rtx 3060ti.
I was bashing the guys who believe they must upgrade with every GPU release as if they're 'missing something' even if they already got the current latest one,
The games should be the main focus. As a kid I had an Atari 2600 and I had so much fun.I had no idea of what fps meant.😎
YES, it's like, the hardware is pretty good now... could we just get better, more complete games we can Enjoy NOW on the pretty good hardware we Have? -- By the Way, who the hell asked for PS5 Pro, when we don't even have enough PS5 games?
I've recently said a couple of times that the first games I ever played were text based..and fun at the time..and 2 fps was overkill. 😄
I'm sure a 4090 for most vr headset work great, but those with high res a 5090 would be best.
I hope they release a titan version. The vram and bus is too small for high end
- it could also be that most people still play 1080P because they realize there is no point to keep chasing higher & higher resolutions & just enjoy the game NOW,
And just a follow-up question, if you get the 5090 & it stabilizes your 4K experience, will you again start looking into 10K gaming?
@@calebs-take Ever increasing? Jesus you're just full of hot takes aint ya.
I got a 4090 and 3080 today ... And on my 3080 is not enough for sure

Older games ran better bro.
I'm still doing 1080p, long as frames are High & smooth,
thats true...im build my pc with brand new AM5 in 2023 and using 4080 in 4k resolution
this is realy enough to reach 60fps in max setting in some AAA games and im enjoy it
Plus it's more like we need better games now to actually play on our rigs, not more GPUs every other year😁
argh 60 fps in mordhau ... I m lagging .... how I can't hit with my sword the head of people moving around me .... believe me
Compare VR performance. What's the comparison there?

yes, that card was pretty solid, but for gaming most likely you'll need some upgrade soon, but yes, I know a pro reviewer with 1M+ subscribers who used a 2080Ti till early this year, when he upgraded

Come on? you can still buy old GPUs Brand New; better yet, at lower prices when the next generation comes out?
I mean 4080 super in Croatia is about 1200e and 4090 2000-2200e so not really slight cost reduction
4080 Super is a good GPU for general use, it's sufficient,

Path tracing just looks so awesome in Cyberpunk and the 40 series is struggling with it, also I would never ever go back to 1080p, that would be sad.
Got a 4090 and nope can't use my HMD at full resolution @ 120hz let alone 90hz NO modern game can be played with settings set to epic or even ultra. So YES I'm buying a RTX5090.

980 ti here😎 it served me well for 10yr and it is time now...i'll see the new cards and then decide if i get the new 5080 or the 7900xtx from amd.
I would still be running the old 1080ti 11g that burnt out on me. Felt like it did better than my current 3070 that I replaced it with

the surprise: its expensive
My 4070 ti super is just a placeholder for the 5090. Gonna give my kids the 4070
The funny thing is, when my friend build rendering rigs, they usually get triple or quad 4090s...
MSFS 2024 VR flight sim guys hoping to finally use Ultra settings with a 5090, probably the only people that need it.
That’s literally the main reason I’m getting one. Ultra settings with a 4090 and 7800x3d is still a little choppy. I get less than 30 fps a lot of times, especially flying in places like Tokyo. And I’m talking MSFS 2020. Not even 2024 yet.
3080, still getting 50-80fps with 4k rt and dlss with vast majority of new releases up until now.
This is true for flat gamining. But for high resolution VR (especially simulation) you need the best GPUs you can get. And in VR resolution matters.
What is the problem about dlss?I don't care if it fakes real frames,as long as i can play it properly im happy, thanks because of dlss i don't need a newer gpu for a few years.
as long as the game looks good & runs well
I need a 5090 for gaming and productivity.
Of Course! If you can get it repaired since you didn't pay for it... If it runs afterwards you're all set for a while,
You buy your GPU for your monitor.
Definitely you're looking at the high end cards - but I would argue that many games are also poorly optimized these days, these companies & devs are so busy pushing tech at the expense of great, optimization, trying to make up for it with patches,
Without a doubt the 5090 will make a significant difference for flight simulation in VR but of course this is a small corner of the market…
Its not about what you need or not for gaming. I don't even need my 4090 for 4k gaming but I just need it for my ego 😂🎉
i got gtx 1070 and i am happy! yea no way i give 500 or more eu to upgrade nope

Plus I've been repeating that if the game ships unoptimized & 'bulky', it will still have issues on higher end GPUs anyway & the 5090 still won't solve it if it's just the game itself,
maybe the 60 series might be worth an upgrade then, like 5 years from now or something,
I definitely need a 5090 for 4k path tracing gaming. I currently have a gtx 1660 super
You mean scamtracing? After 6yr it's been out can you even name me 3 games that really use that and deliver? It's looks awful on most games and on those where it's looks ok you get unplayble fps...a real scamtracing💀😂
@APNANO-c6t What games does it look awful in? It looks amazing in portal, cyberpunk, alan wake 2, Indiana Jones
@@Joshda039 how do you go from a 1660 to a 5090..the fact that you started with that tells me you dont got money like that..unless you landed something new..why are you stepping out your lane like that? just pick up an 88xt thats basically a 4080 for 5 or 6..why go full retard and drop 2k?

considering AMD myself, I believe they are catching up & closing the gap, Intel as well. In next 5 years they will probably match every Nvidia offering, especially on the higher end, as public perception catches up as well. AMD is solid already in most use cases.

a very reasonable upgrade, I know a professional reviewer with 1M+ subs who rocked a 2080Ti till early this year, when he then got a 4090,
Only buy one new gpu per console generation, avoid the high end, only upgrade motherboard for new memory generations.
Yes, upgrade as we need, I just saw someone run cyberpunk 2077 on 1080p High on a 2050 with no lag or issue!
I agree
1080p is like 720p to me , i can't play a game on that resolution, 4k is a must otherwise upscale to 4k
Did you know that some games in 4k with a 4090 can still only do between 40-50 fps?
I will bet you here that Even with the 50 series, it will still not reach those amazing fps - frame rate is partly determined by the developers - look it up, if the game is badly optimized or has frame rate caps, it will not exceed the cap even if you throw a big GPU at it,
I can still play at 4k with a 2080.. Not sure a 5090 is needed atm..
(Black ops 6)
Normally I would be using 1440 for the game but 4K looks a lot better in other games like sons of the Forest.
It's a serious upgrade from 60-100 My friend who has recently upgraded to 1440 to 240 it says that he sees stuff happen in slow motion now compared to 100-90 fps.
youre playing call of duty on vr? da fucks wrong with you..yeah..you belong in this comment section
Playing devil’s advocate:
4090 cannot do 4k/60 on ultra settings without DLSS.
This won’t get better as studios are now relying on DLSS to make up for their poor optimisation
Me, I will need it as a niche VR sim racing player :)
Yes it can mate, depends on the game. Thats a developer problem, not a GPU problem.

for people like me who love modded VR games from flat to VR you are absolutely wrong.
Most gamers who "dont like it" either
A. can't afford a PC to actually run them or
B. have never played them.
I bought the 4080s Ventus here in Brazil for 1,1k
How is the performance & your experience?
I don’t agree. I have a 4090. Playing cyberpunk on 4k native max settings with ray tracing tanks my fps all the way down to the 40’s, not to mention path tracing which is unplayable even with frame gen. For me even a 5090 won’t be enough for path tracing especially when i have a 240hz monitor
🤔 interesting, I've heard a few complaints but never frames dipping to 40s - Plus it sounds you're obviously an Enthusiast who needs every bit of detail possible - In any case, playing around the settings may help - otherwise if you NEED every detail, they've got you by the balls... you'll probably be upgrading everything they make forever because there will always be that little bit of visual that will lag on some game no matter what GPU you get
"Reasonably recent."
So, 1080Ti is still a go, then.
I'm running my RTX 4090 until I can no longer run games at ultra 4K 60fps.
Sensible... Maximum Utilization for every dollar spent...
To develop VR nanite you do.
True, but for VR, you are better off waiting at least 2 more GPU generations to find something that will satisfy that 'real Life' fidelity VR players seek, the 50 series is still not satisfactory for that use case anyway,
The people that have the highest end gpus do actually game in 4k.
Of course, it's more enthusiast territory & it's fine, I was attempting to address the insecurity & confusion 'regular gamers' may have about what to upgrade to for their needs,
I had a 56" Gaming TV, & after a month I went back to the smaller 24" screen - it was more comfortable for RTS which I play lots
@@calebs-take 4K TV's have been out since 2013.. Playing at that res 11 years later isn't enthusiast territory
i have a 3080 10gb, sometimes this card is great, until you run out of vram and your whole game goes to hell, I play on a 4k oled 32" monitor, and I wanna squeeze all the FPS I can out of it, that's why I want a 5090, and I know some games still won't give me those 240fps but when I'm playing first descendant on my 3080 and i gotta use DLSS performance cause otherwise my game will have 7 fps its frustrating, and it's not even the card that's the problem, game developers are taking this newer tech to simply optimize less, making it more difficult to run games. I still agree with this video, IF I had a 40 series I wouldn't be going for the 5090, or if I wasn't running a 4k OLED
4090 gives you 24Gb faster Vram
If you don't need it don't buy it. I know I need it though so if you bought it already: give it to me :D
Ohhh I need and I will
still rocking 2080ti play stalker 2 no problem at 1440p
I know a big reviewer who used a 2080ti till 2024 August, when he got a 4090, as long as you get drivers & are cool with the performance, use it until it genuinely can't keep up,
you are 100% correct.
I agree! have the 4090 since launch day and sticking with it until the 6090 drops in 2028 lol
YES! the Exact message I was trying to get across!
I Have Msi Suprim X 3090Ti i can wait too RTX 6090 or longer :)
Oh yes we do Need it, time to overclock it by 20% with extremely powerful water cooling
amzing this channel is barely under 50 subs:(
I have a 4090 and an i9 14900kf.
