Yes, you can change any 2 leads of a 480 3-phase motor....but....industry standard is line 1 and line 3. And the best place to swap those 2 is at the peckerhead of the motor...that way all the colors of the wires are correlated up to the last connection. Now it'll work either way and it's not necessarily work, but it's just an FYI from a commercial electrician 👍

I have an 80s model Atlas copco compressor I'm guessing the pump is a 5hp-7.5hp idk it's big and atlas doesnt specify on its tag what it is...anyways bought it used it had a baldor 5hp on it single phase well just recently burned up that motor windings melted due to I'm guessing age and alot of auto paint being collected onto them, I recently bought a 7.5hp 30amp motor for it...all it has is the compressor switch do I necessarily need a magnetic starter on this? Or can I get away with running it without? I have 25foot of 6/3 wire running to the compressor room and have a heavy duty 6/3 style dryer plug running from the outlet down to the compressor
you couldn't get away with a 5 hp motor on 220 single phase. most pressure switches are only rated for 2-3 hp max.
I would defiantly recommend a a magnetic starter. and you need to check the RPM of the new motor against the old motor you may have to change the pulley size if you have a big rpm difference. feel free to contact me through thecompressorguru.com . we sell starters pressure switches and anything else you may need for a compressor.
@@THECompressorGuru ok thanks I went with the same rpm for the motor which is 3450 as the baldor 5hp was also had to buy a new sheeve pulley since my old one was 7/8 and new motor is 1 1/8"
What should i use to plum my air lines with and the size . I got a Ingersoll rand 80 gallon single stage 5hp from tractor supply. Appreciate sum suggestions.

My curtis 3 phrase 5hp motor 230 the motor has 3 black 1white all the whites are tired together do the 3 blacks connect like this

You need to get your “ phrases “ right !
I'm sure you have figured this out already but for people who watch this after the fact DO NOT connect all the black wires together on a 3-phase system....you'll let all the magic smoke out
do yourself a favor and go buy the Harbor Freight hydraulic wire crimper.. VERY tight crimps with little effort
