that nonsense pen from an AA shrapnel shell has killed me numerous times in this tank.
A rusty T-34 is more resistant against an Ostwind than this supposedly nukeproof tank's upper front plate is against it's contemporary AA guns.

0:01 HE does this on the Kugelblitz aswell. I have "1 tapped" multiple T29s by just spraying the front with it. The HE round on the Begleitpanzer does the same thing underneath tanks.

There is something super weird about sounds in WT... sometimes I cannot distinguish if a sound comes from rear or front, sometimes the sounds are simply muted (if there's too many of them or there are sounds of different volume - it makes sense not hear the engine when arty shells pops around you). I think the overall sound quality is pretty good but the implementation is faulty or is missing something. Gaijin should work on that. I wish we had binaural audio in the game.
I sometimes feel that just the kinetic energy of the APHE round hitting a tank is enough to overpressure it.
Or a dart for that matter, they aren't just needles that enter and leave, they have force.
@@bluntobject2235 The force is dependent upon the resistance (armor thickness). The same way rounds can fly through the air, they can fly through 10mm armor. Conservation of energy means the more the round slows down (change in kinetic energy), the more energy is imparted onto nearby objects

I love how even though phly is basically a partner with gaijin and heavily edits his videos to only show his good moments (he has bad moments like everyone else) and yet you can still see just how much suffering you will go through playing this game.

I've killed this thing with the marders 20mm from the front before, my ATGM only got his horizontal drive, thought myself dead and just panic fired at the front before he'd shoot me. 20mm went through and overpressured his crew

Maybe I'm crazy, but it seems to me that its harder to take out the barrels on certain tanks, especially the Merkava and XM-1.
I have noticed that different barrels have different millimeter thickness so yeah that might be a factor. It could also be good ‘ol gaijin and the weird shit that frequently occurs (like in this vid lol).

Was in a match not too long ago. Someone with a B1 bis on the enemy team had a Tigor plush in their tank. Thought it was pretty cool.
Overpressuring obj279s with the Gepard is actually pretty easy. I‘ve done it several times and I would even call it „reliable“.

I like how between 17:35 and like 17:45 apparently a crewmember got out and just slopped mud all over the top of the turret
I think that Gepard was using a german supersecret wundervaffe a gravitational shell that uses gravity to fold the armor and then sucks out all the air from the tank killing the crew intantly.
I think that's the most likely theory on what happened because surely wasn't a War Thunder's bug.

Phly, could you play the Mig-15 Bis ISH? It's basically the Bis taken to a whole new level of CAS. Orrrr, in this case, a new level of anti-air chaos. Take the big rockets, set a 500 meter fuse, and launch them at aircraft in headons. It's hilarious to watch the confusion as they suddenly implode from 3-5 rockets detonating in their windshield.

The worst thing about that Gepard shot is based on the distance he wasn't even aimed at you, just shooting blindly and got obscenely lucky

I've had that HE trick happen to me before. I was in a Naubaufahrzeug taking out many tanks until a T-28 (1938) suddenly one tapped me with an HE shell . The shell hit the side of the turret in a impossible angle to pen with other shells and killed me instantly.

I'd like to remind everyone, more Obj279s (3) were made than Radwagon 90s (1).
A T29's 90mm APHE detonated and took out my crew after ricocheting off the sideplate of my is-4m at an angle of around 83°

War Thunder is literally in my top 3 games to play of all time. I just wish they'd create a full war scenario style game with tanks, planes, helicopters and infantry troops, and it would be one of the greatest war games in history.
If Battlefield made their tanks and vehicles more realistic then it would be amazing. But no tank or vehicle is taking 3-5+ hits to be destroyed, and people go down in 1-3 hits max in real life.
War Thunder for sure should do this before someone else does it because that's the future of gaming.
People want to get as realistic as humanly possible without actually having to experience war first hand.

They should do the same module damage system that the tanks in war thunder have to the human body

I love playing this tank, i find that getting your positioning just right is extremely important for surviving. I have had matches where i was target practice for the enemy team the entire match with only slightly important pieces being damaged, and ive been one shot. I would say its 70% skills (from playing it and learning how to protect your weak spot) and then 30% luck.

dude, the oneshot potential is literally the only advantage this tank has.
The Obj. 279 shines as long as you have the element of suprise on your side. As soon as anyone shoots back at you, all of it's drawbacks come into play.
*Obj.279 is not a KV-1B.* It performs more like a KV-1 L-11 without any armor.
Due to the crappy protection you have to play it like a light tank which barely works because the mobility is just ok, not great and you can't scout. all the wheeled scouts like the Radkampfwagen 90 surpass you by far in that regard.
Even the humble BMP-1 provides more versatility and firepower for the same mobility, survivability and even at a lower BR than the Obj 279.
everything else is either as fast or faster than you. Stabilizers, rangefinders and thermals are the norm for all of the MBT's too.
the armor is ludicrously unreliable even against AA shrapnel as seen in the intro. on top of facing HEATFS and darts that ignore your armor, the model itself is bugged and absurdly susceptible to small arms fire. happened to me too numerous times while fighting AA vehicles.
the survivability is bad as 3/4 guys are in the turret and there is ammo everywhere, and your armor sucks as stated above.
compared to any other MBT or light vehicle of BR 9.0-9.7 (which is your matchmaking 88% of the time), you buy the ability to use good APHE at high tier for a huge hit in mobility, survivability, armor protection and respawn cost.
At least we get a decent reverse gear for running away! How do you say "HURRRAAAAAA" in french?

Fun fact: If you complain about the game on War Thunder forums, people will always shift the blame on you first.
Until about a month ago I was using some expensive Sony wireless headphones using virtual surround sound and had the same issues where I didn't hear some things or the direction of sound was off. Changed to 7.1 headset and all of a sudden I hear everything and I don't get sounds from the wrong place anymore. For the record I'm now using ROG theta true 7.1 surround headphones.

0:00 I’ve had this happen to me but with a bf109 7.62 I was a full crew fresh spawn t34 American and I was over pressured by it however I also did it to a panther frontally with a 50cal on a Sherman 76 idk why it happens as a 50 call and 7.62 shouldn’t over pressure but it does…for some reason
