The Olympic 1500m final will be a contrast in styles/strategies. Historically, the Olympic 1500m final has been a slow(ish), tactical race. Often resulting in "slow" times by international standards. Not having pacemakers and with a field stacked with top runners, it comes down to the "sit and kick" runners versus anyone stupid enough to attempt to kamikazi themselves by leading and trying to force a fast pace. It opens them up to a "sitter" outsprinting them in the finishing straight.
So, a very good 800m runner with a good finishing sprint, has a huge advantage over someone who often races 5000m and relies on strength/stamina to win shorter races so needs a fast run race. That might mean going to the front to ensure a strength saping event, to blunt the sitters.
One slight advantage for those longer distance runners is the fact they have had to run heats and semis before the final, often blunting the strength of natural 800m runners.
A perfect example of this was in 1976 when the 1500m final was dominated by a large number of 800m runners. The race was slow: no one wanted to lead. The eventual winner was John Walker, who had failed to even make the 800m final but was the world mile and 2000m record holder who had to hit the front with 400m to go and pore on the pace to blunt the finish of half a dozen 800m guys, many who had made the 800m final, including the 800m silver/bronze medalists. In a mad last lap, his strength won out and he was successful. This is probably what Jakob will have to do. BUT... if he takes the lead too early, like end of 1st lap, there are enough fast finishes who will sit on him and possibly outsprint him at the finish.

That’s all true but as shown in the beginning very few athletes were able to run sub 3.29 in the last 3 years meaning that if Jakob can set a 3.28 pace he’s barely have any competition, though I agree with you the final will be slower and considering all the heats and the 5000 he might not be able to run 3.28 or lower all by himself

My favorite top milers were John Walker of New Zealand and Steve Scott of the USA. Both had ran over 100 sub 4 minute miles in their careers ! Thank you for all of the great runners of today. A year ago, when the Cursa Dels Nassos race was held in Barcelona and Jakob had to start 5km, my young runner was hoping to get a picture with Jakob. Then at one point Robert (my runner) called out - Jakob is coming. I immediately called out to Jakob - can we have a picture with this young man? The guard was already pushing us aside, but Jakob pushed the guard aside and came to Robert! The boy has an excellent picture in Barcelona at night with Jakob. Where is the arrogance? In a shortish career, Snell dominated middle distance and on today's tracks, with todays shoe technology, would more than likely be up there with Jacob. Is just comparing times enough to predict the outcome of a championship race? In Paris you have no pacers and everyone has to go a few extra meters because you can’t always stay on the inner lane. Having to run 10m more is probably unavoidable (half a lane width on average), and it adds approx. 2 seconds (3:27 to 3:29)? Are Kerr and Wightman just focusing more on the medal than on the record? In any case, it will be an exciting race!

Furthermore, Jakob has the 1500m European Record while the Kerr doesn't even have the British record... YAWN.) hit the nail on the head. And don't forget Kerr was promptly outkicked by Nuguse in Kerr's very next Diamond League race in Zurich following the WC in Budapest.
Kerr says he wants his competitors to say Kerr was the best runner "today" - his "today" sit & kick yawner in the 2023 WC will be a distant, waning memory down the road, while Ingebrigtsen's 2023 season with his 2-mile & 2K WRs (beating Komen's 2-mile WR by 4-secs was unbelievable), his near WR in the mile @ the Pre Classic in September, his ER in the 1500 and 3K, and his 2nd 5K WC will never be forgotten. Ingebrigtsen may have spoiled it for distance running fans with his season last summer - I'm at the point now that if the race isn't designed from the beginning to go for an area, natl, or world record, I don't even want to watch it.
If anyone doubts Ingebrigtsen's grit & kick @ the end of a race, rewatch the end of the WC 5K (Katir had 3m on him with 75m to go) and the last lap of the 3K @ the Pre Classic (Ingebrigtsen's & indoor mile world record holder Kejelcha's 300m duel to the end).
I don't know if Ingebrigtsen will be able to recover in time from his current injury to win his 2nd Olympic gold this year. Unless he can quickly recover and the rest actually does him more good than harm, it appears Nuguse, Katir, and Kipsang will likely be in the mix.

The crazy thing about Seb Coe being the only runner to win the Olympic 1500m title twice is that he was a better 800m runner and he never won that at the Olympics. He wasn't even the best 1500m runner from the UK for most of his career. In 1980 most people assumed Coe would win the 800m and Ovett would win the 1500m and in 84, Coe the 800m and Cram the 1500m. It really goes to show that anything can happen on race day.

Coe ran a terrible tactical 800m race in 1980 and Joachim Cruz was unbeatable in 84. Coe's finishing speed in the 1500m was something else and once he got away there was no catching him, Ovett should never have let him open up such a gap in the 1500m as Coe could tend to tighten up if challenged in the home straight.

So far it seems Kerr is trying to make a rivalry out of one "lucky" win in an admittedly important race. Stay focused on yourself dude, if you feel you have to psyche someone out to beat them, imo opinion youve already lost and man will the fall be a great one if you cant walk the walk afterwards heh

You do say some ill-judged things. '....shows a very strong and unchallenged Ingebrigtsen...over the previous 3 years' Are you serious...unchallenged? There have been 3 world-wide titles over 1500m on offer in the last 3 years but Ingebritgsen has won just one of them..the exact same number as Kerr and Wightman. I assume you knew this so why on earth say he is 'unchallenged? I doubt anyone would rank Jakob as anything other than no.1 but his main strength is running fast over the distance with pacemakers in place with the specific objective of helping him to do so. In championship races, pacemakers are not allowed, so he has to compete 'normally' and this shows him not to be the only one capable of running very fast and also that he is not the fastest finisher. Keep it real please. I love watching Jakob compete, he is very good for the sport but so is Josh and his trash-talk which is reminiscent of boxing and adds excitement. You idolising one individual detracts from how genuinely competitive this event is and the fact there are a minimum of 6 genuine strong contenders for Paris...Ingebrigtsen, Kerr, Wightman, Nuguse, Laros and Nordas and that is without mentioning any Africans at all. Would you like a bet with me over who will win in Paris?

I love both Jakob and Kerr, but the latter is trying to maximize its latest win in the WC. Jakob right now, in relation to WC titles, is like El Guerrouj in the 2004 Olympic final. But for the time being, the Olympics, I guess that if Jakob is 100% fit, he will win. The defeat against Wightman I guess it was due to over confidence of Jakob, but I have the idea that he lost to Kerr in 2023 because he was not 100% fit. 2023 season for Jakob was extremely demanding and with a good set of results, so it's natural he became tired at the end. But the quality is there, let's see how it's fitness in the following months unfolds, and also if Kerr manages to work as hard as he trash talks...
