    Congratulations! You seem to have a very strong kendo. I will try for godan soon (maybe 2023), and watching your exam was really helpful.

    Another clean men and nice control of centre. Definitely showing composure strongly in the second bout. I can definitely see why you passed. Well done, and well deserved. I said so on Facebook but seeing the video I think it's a solid pass for sure. Again, congratulations.

    This movie is very valuable for me, as I am also preparing for my godan test.
    It is fine to see you can pass that test using almost men strike only, but with good opportunity and "sen".
    Congratulations:)

    Congratulations on passing your 5th dan! And thanks a lot for sharing this video! This is very interesting.
    I just passed 4th dan in Japan (Tokyo) but I want to have an idea of where I need to be in four years from now. Your technique is very pure and clean. In my humble opinion, I think you have been too nice with the second guy: there may have been opportunities for solid strikes when he moves back.
    Can I venture to ask where you took your exam (and passed)?

    • @Kendotips
      @Kendotips  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thank you for your comment. I passed in Greece, and I think you are right it may look like I was nicer but full disclosure my left leg was hurting from the day before and I felt less confident by the second fight because of pain, so I agree I don't think I was as engaging as much.

  • @KendoSwordsman
    @KendoSwordsman 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    I think that's your shotachi in the second bout, it's a nice attempt for De kote from the other chap but it seemed to be the waiting sword whereas you were initiating the debana men I think. So I'd have considered it your ippon.

    • @Kendotips
      @Kendotips  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      In the second fight I wasn't feeling my best and I thought I got nervous because I had the feeling my opponent was trying to bait me. I am glad I kept my focus on going forward

    The kaeshi dou was nice technique but a little behind the sen or loss of the sen I think. The waza still looked sharp though.

      Thank you, I agree. Specially for testing I believe I should have done a better job at anticipating. Watching it after I realize t could have looked like a reaction as well, so I think your observation is on point and something I need to keep working on.

    Once again, congratulations on your godan exame. I have one question. I've always been told that in shiai and in Tai shiai (shinsa) one should always look to be the first one to strike. Is that vid for higher Dan examinations?

    • @Kendotips
      @Kendotips  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thank you, and the video is from my 5th Dan examination ( I guess it can be considered higher dan lol)

    • @tiagoveiga8916

      @@Kendotips sorry. Typo. I meat. Is that valid for higher examinations? What I stated before?

    • @kendosprendlingen590
      @kendosprendlingen590 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@tiagoveiga8916 Well, your statement is a bit oversimplyfied. Striking first without chance or preparation is a reason to fail an higher dan exam! What you need to show is initiative (sen/先) and you may not wait for your opponent. If you apply pressure, make your opponent react and create an opening, then strike and hit first, this is certainly very good for the exam. This is called shodachi (初太刀).

    On the kote by 06, why did he stop? Obviously we can't ask him without him being here, but it seems weird to make a good cut (it looked alright, at least) and then to hop back? I know it's awkward to pass through when you cut kote, but could he not have moved into taitara rather than moved back straight away?
