In this video we take a quick look at the single shot 45/70 from Henry. These rifles have filled the niche in the market that H&R is no longer fulfilling after being purchased by Remington. So far the little rifle is holding up well and packs a wallop in a lightweight and easy to carry package. Stay tuned as we will be scoping and revisiting this rifle in the future. Much more on the way.

Boosted98gsx: I have a H&R 10 gauge with a 36" barrel and a 22" slug barrel. Love that gun. Henry sent out a mass email about 6 months ago asking for products shooters wanted to see in their line. I mentioned a single shot 10 gauge and a sxs 10 gauge both with brass frames. I think the single barrel is a possibility but we will probably never see the sxs.

Single-shot rifles, a great way to reduce the expense of ammo consumption and learn the importance of each shot. What I loved about the H&R rifles/shotguns was the break release, it was a push button rather than the dumb side-swipe lever. Was so much more intuitive and ergonomic.

But, in defense of the cartridge, I've been told by many experienced experienced hunters that you can eat right up to the hole, with 45-70. It seems to make a 45 caliber hole right through WHATEVER you shoot.

I bought the Henry single shot in 223, and I am still looking for one in 20ga. But honestly I wish I passed on the .223 because the rifle just isn’t as accurate as I would like for a varmint caliber. The best I could do with any handload has been about 1.5” at 100yds. And that’s a lucky best group, more typically it is a 3moa gun. Which I will agree, wouldn’t be a big deal at all for a 45-70. But for varmint hunting with a .223 it leaves a lot to be desired.... of course keep In mind my results are from a sample of one and your mileage may vary.

grip I imagine it would be, I think my accuracy issues are just the result of a break barrel action being less stable than an action where they barrel is permanently attached to a receiver. And even still it doesn’t shoot horribly bad, it’s just not impressive at 2-3moa

These things cost about $380 dollars, which is about $100 more than you can get, e.g., a Savage Axis bolt-action rifle for. It also costs about twice as much as the H&R Handi-Rifle used to. I love break-open single-shot rifles and shotguns, but they are supposed to be inexpensive; that's part of their appeal. Also, that's the ugliest hammer spur I've ever seen, and they should have used a button to break open the action like H&R did, instead of an ultra cheap (and cheap looking) version of the lever that you see on expensive double rifles and shotguns. Look at all the daylight you can see under that lever.
I keep waiting for a good H&R alternative, but this isn't it. H&R got everything right, and with every other break-open single-shot on the market, there's one or more things about them that's a deal breaker.

Nice video. U said 50 yards for the open sights? I guess that's a range for people that don't want to take the time to know their firearm. In a rifle like that , a scope is totally unnecessary if u know what ur doing. The H&R Buffalo classic I had would easily put five rounds in a five inch circle at 300 yards. That's with the sights that came with the rifle. I'm 65 , and if I can do it , anybody can , IF they take the time to learn their firearm. Everyone's getting soft nowdays. SMDH.

Not to be a jerk or anything, but you purposely shot a target on the ground. That is a basic no no at many gun ranges, it is common practice to only allow rounds to impact backstops. Ground impacts risk ricochet...

@@contrabassbob IT's nice. Shot 168 and 175 gr better than some 150. But we were shooting at 100 yards, of a front bag, elbows off the rear. Kinda cloudy, but we got at least 3" groups.
