    Got hacked on Facebook and finally came back years later. No more meeting of the prepared minds. That group was the best thing that ever happened to some people. I remember Pete Kohler friend requesting me after some good conversations in there before the God like craze for his knives fully set in. So many stories like that. So many peoples business’s grew. So many things Taught and learned. Great to see you back again.

      @@preparedmind101thanks for the Survival gear information. You're a GOOD AMERICAN ! ⚠️You should also include medium thickness rubber gloves. I bought a pair of long sleeve black color rubber gloves from HOME DEPOT.
      * Person will not need to wash their hands as much when using rubber gloves.
      The 190 Proof Everclear alcohol is good for sanitizing cuts on a person's skin. It can also be used in a Zippo lighter.
      I live in Washington State.

    Like yourself I’ve been trekking, building kits & wiling away hours on-trail, behind the wheel or otherwise disengaged from what I’m supposed to be doing cuz I’m thinking about survival systems, wilderness tragedies, wartime prisoner escapes & doo dads expertly placed in boxes & bags. It’s a genuine illness and you know it’s near fatal when you have bankers boxes of unopened gear still awaiting its perfect kit. (deep breath) So all that aside here’s my brief analysis. Throw in some instant packet brew-ups, some salt, a big roll of wire & a .22LR semi auto with a shoulder rest “stock”. Maybe a wrist rocket. Beanie. Pair of gloves. Caramel hard candies & Cliff bars in every nook available. Nice build brother. New sub 👍🏼

    I was just at Cabela’s and they had this USA made ammo box for $20.00. It is a large box and as you demonstrated in your awesome video, you can fit a lot of survival gear in there! I’m going back to Cabela’s and buying one of the ammo boxes and putting together a kit of my own! Great video! Thanks for sharing brother! Well done!

      I have quite a few of these cabelas boxes. It broke my heart when they put the green ones on sale for $10 near Christmas. Didn't stop me from buying a handful. Paid what I paid for 2 back in August. I place a piece of black duct tape in the recess on the top and write a label in silver sharpie.

    Have you thought about creating a video Chris on caches (stash kits) to stash gear out in the woods.
    The great thing about caches is you no longer have be concerned about weight and bulk. You could effectively have the equivalent of several 100 litres of caches.

    I have added one thing for my car kit. Its one the duffle bags or small back pack that folds into a pocket for traveling. I was able to put a ration in it with a small fire kit with a bic lighter, band aids, alcohol pads, swiss army knife (the waiter) water bag with water tablets, tealight candle. space blanket, plastic poncho. I think it would be nice to put the ammo box in a bag instead of carrying it all of the time. I just put bank line wrapped onto cardboard.

    Anyone wanting to include spiritual comfort items in a survival kit, if you're looking to save some weight, or perhaps aren't subscribed to a particular faith, an alternative item may be a locket with photos of loved ones and mementos of personal significance. When I was away for work a few years ago, my 6 year old sent me a homemade bracelet and a hand written letter for father's day. If I was in a survival situation, that bracelet would comfort me and motivate me to go through hell to get back to my family.

    kinda hoping you make some budget videos. like $100, $50, and $25 survival kits. This was a good video. Best survival food, in my opinion, is peanut butter. Has more of everything than a pack of those Daytrex survival rations. A normal jar is about the same weight and a lot less expensive. Also has more proteins, and more calories.

    One of Beautiful Bride's income sources is academic writing which she has worked at for over two decades. There have been times when she was tasked with straightening out someone else's botched-up work She always says, "Make it your own." I agree with that. Customize this basic hit to best fit your operating environment. Many of us will have specialized needs. An eyewear repair kit and a spare pair in the box would be a must-have for me. I would be useless to the family except for instructing others what to do without my glasses. We live in SE Asia and it is now typhoon season as I write this. A super handy item for all members of the family would be the best heavy-duty plastic trashbags you can obtain. If you can find a few orange color bags, they would also double as signal panels if needed. Taking up little space in the kit, HD trash bags will provide something to sleep in or sleep on as well as function as a poncho-rain suit. Staying dry is important, especially if you do not have a change of clothing. The Philippines is primarily a cash-based society. We will always place some cash in our kits as well as some cash hidden on our person. Depending on how far out you are, a local map to find alternate routes may be helpful. Hey, maybe there is room in the box for a small canister of powder, strips of moleskin, and a spare pair of dry sox for those who may have to walk some distance!

    My 'survival pack', which has rode in my 1969 Ford F250 4x4 since 1982, after my first 3 year enlistment. 1979 to 1982. I bought that truck in 1978 for $500 and it served me well for my 34 year career. I retired in 2013.
    I had that pack made at a saddle shop out of 12 oz canvas and latigo leather, modeled after the ALICE pack.
    In it is a Buck 184 Buckmaster knife. A Wyoming saw that takes down and fits in a leather belt case. An original issue Leatherman. 100 ft of 550 cord. Spool of 600 lb test Bank Line. A four piece Zebco model 4064-8 pack rod and 202 reel. Altoids tin of hooks. A dozen cable snares. A dozen yoyo reels.5 gallon Swiss military heavy rubber water bag. GI mess kit. GI canteens. Trauma kit. Colt woodsman pistol with a brick of Remington ammo and two spare mags. Nine Mountain House pro LRRP rations. Bank bag with fire kit, duct tape, water purification. Another Altoids tin of anti diarrhea pills, ibuprofen, allergy pills. A couple lbs of beef jerky. A few pairs of socks. Strapped to the top is a Cabelas canvas outfitter bedroll with a couple of wool blankets inside it, wrapped in a canvas tarp.
    It all packs in neatly and is ready to go at under 50 lbs.

    Chris ... Great old school basics. The only other additions I would consider are alcohol wipes to go with basic IFAK supplies and for hygiene, spare ammunition (or even a small kit gun), and reading material. A space effective paperback can help with idle time. The ammo box is excellent for storing in a vehicle trunk or ready for grab'n'go.

I have a blessed rosary and familiy pictures in my "get home car back" and if push comes to shove these items will provide me a lot of motivation for the trip home. @@nandrews8412 there's some great right angle flashlights that come with a headband strap for using as a headlamp. I got a pair of Olight Perun 2 flashlights a few months ago during a sale (one for me and my son) and have been very happy with them. The angled head and pocket clip lets you stick it to the chest strap of a pack, the moonlight mode saves battery, the red LED preserves night vision, it charges with a magnetic end cap from a USB power bank, and the magnetic base lets you stick it to your knife or canteen to position where you want it.

      I bought a few 4 pack of Risemart flashlights off Amazon, fairly cheap but they work well and take AAA batteries. A big bonus was the clip, it's a reversible style clip so it can clip on a hat to use like a headlamp. Storing an extra four pack of AAA batteries takes little room too.

    I keep a bottle of tertacaine in my first aid kit!! You can get it from your e.n.t doctor!!! And boy let me tell you!!! NOTHING works better if you get something in your eye that you CAN'T get out for whatever reason... until you get back home or whatever!!!! Nothing wrong with flushing.. but sometimes that doesn't work

    Something to repel ticks might be a good idea especially in Ohio.

      It's always a good idea to have some mosquito spray, but for ticks and such, it's best to be prepared ahead of time, treat your gear with permethrin. That stuff kills all bugs on contact, great on tents, tarps, clothes, footwear, ect, but do not apply it directly on your skin, it's safe on gear that makes contact with your skin though, just don't use it like mosquito spray, lol.

    I have a question will the metal ones work just as good I got one of the metal ones that my grandfather give me and I was wondering if that would be good to build a survival kit out of

      You could. Bigger the better.

    • @toddk1377
      @toddk1377 ปีที่แล้ว

      Metal ones are better imo, they can be rough housed and not break, I've had some plastic ones crack on me just from bouncing around in my truck. If you use the 50 cal ammo cans, what's nice is, you can use an Alice pack frame with the shelf to transport two or three ammo cans on it needed, I think Sootch did a video on that when he did his Alice pack review years ago.

    Lol, bird meth has been popular around here since COVID. Every day a different species is on it. At least they aren't starting at 2:50am like they did the last few years.

      I'll look at Cabela's.

    • @toddk1377
      @toddk1377 ปีที่แล้ว

      That's the 50 cal ammo can size. I'd recommend buying those as the 30 cals seem too small in most cases and some items won't fit well because it's narrow.
