I really appreciated the inclusion of cleaning and preparing the squirrel, in this vid; and your discussion of keeping your knives & sheaths clean, burning off pathogens, as we do in the microbiology lab...just a quick swipe through a flame usually does the trick. Most other instructors rarely show these things, and your inclusion of this information is likely to help protect your students/viewers. Thank you!

One of the biggest things I like about your videos Major Andrew. I never get bored watching your videos, a lot of folks talk about what they are going to do, or about themselves, and what they are trying to sell, for at least the first five minutes or more. Always some good to know info, very usable, from start to finish. If folks would look in your archives, they could mix and match a kit that would suite pretty much any situation. I hope you never get too commercial on us. I don't mind someone trying to sell me something, just teach me something at the same time. Outstanding as always. Catching and eating squirrel on the spot! That's putting your money where your mouth is! Lots of folks talk about it! Lots of posers taking over YT. Thanks for keeping it real.

Firearms, bear bangers or firecrackers, flares, even "bear spray," can help to prevent or defuse wild animal encounters. Ruthless people require certain other measures. Been there, seen that. Soldiers like Andrew are accustomed to carrying particularly lethal items. Gas masks or other breathing apparatus might save people from severe smoke inhalation in case of wildfire. A large part of Alberta was smoky hell the past summer. Maui probably much worse. Complacency kills..

I found some surplus gear pouches I use. I use the M4 double mag pouch for my pruning shears, and my tent stakes. I have a Marine pop up flare pouch that I keep my folding saw in. I also got the folding E-Tool and canvas type bag, that also fits my Deer Skin gloves in. I MOLLE the pouches onto the outside of the pack, leaving the inside still empty for the clothing, shelter, etcetera.

My favorite go bag was a modern duffle bag reduced in length, a waterproof extension inside (much like the M56 combat butt pack has). Although this is only 1 sack/bag it holds all except "utility belt equipment" (knife first aid kit compass, ranger beads, canteen, etc.). If I feel like a "long walk" I put a wwii era pack board on it backwards. Then I can add canvas, extra line, long handle hatchet. I always have my
" wobblie" folded at top so I can reach up and pull it down in miserable weather.
My poncho is a old west type painted canvas big enough to cover a man and horses backside by my grandpa in 1923. So I use this as a quick shelter too.
I use a lot of LC2 and old Korean war equipment these days.

I like that you said this kit could be a bug out bag, bail out bag, 72-hour kit, get home bag. It's good to know why the labels and the purpose of each kit, but sometimes I wish people would just learn the basic items and stop worrying so much.
I think it makes more sense to have a kit and then when you need to act, just add specific items you need like a crowbar or a lockpick set.

I live near forests full of pine. I make a fire starter by picking up an opened pine cone and find a strong stick which I carve one end into a wedge. Then I use the stick to collect pine sap dripping from trees and packing it into the pine cone. I thought about wrapping one in paper so I can take it with me without making too much mess . They light easily and burn hot for a long time if you spend about ten minutes collecting sap. I light them with a small piece of fluffed up cotton based tinder which I make at home and spark it with a small ferro rod. I have the ferro rod and tinder in an aluminum capsule on my keychain. I always have a heavy folding knife I can batton through firewood if I have to. I don't always carry a saw on my person unless I plan to go into the woods but if I do, I can accomplish a lot more and be several times more comfortable. A shovel is another item that multiplies capabilities.
