Ryan, I would submit you were at the right place at the right time to be able to get a great deal on the Ascendo sub, and other Ascendo speakers. I expect your setup will be epic

For what it is worth, I had some Def Tech’s prior to upgrading to Ascendo. Mine were the original Def Techs back when Sandy Gross ran the company. Back in their day, these were outstanding speakers, I would submit they were end game for some. They were just fantastic in a 7.1 or 5.1 configuration. The Bi Polar design added depth. With the advent of Atmos, the bi polar design really doesn’t work well. It’s one of the primary reasons why I was willing to part ways with them after 25 years. Modern day Def Techs, just aren’t of the same quality in my mind. I realize this is subjective.

Could Ryan not install a small freight elevator into his house, to move his heavy speakers to the basement?

Regarding the Yamaha chat, I had the same experience when I upgraded from a Yamaha processor to a processor with Dirac, the soundstage shrunk.

I've been following this channel for few years, and I love it and it has helped me a lot. Now I miss more channels, or at least ONE! 😅 specialized much more in the area of surround music equipment, and not so much in movies.
I use my Home Theater 7.1.4 for movies, but also for music in surround format. I love music in this format. As we know, this format is growing quite a bit in the musical field, and I am not referring to concert videos either, but to studio music.
Does anyone know of a channel (TH-cam, for instance) specialized in surround music equipment? I know one dedicated to surround music, but not amplifiers, speakers, etc.
Well, Youthman! maybe this area could also be a new challenge for you and your channel, what do you think about it? Find equipment balanced for movies and music, and 100% dedicated to music as well.
    Tx!

What would be the difference in equipment?
Proper theater equipment is also great at 2 channel. Unless you are into vinyl and tube amps.

@@djlee688 Well, it's really not like that. I'm afraid that most home cinema equipment, depending on its quality, is just good or very good for watching movies. But they do not offer HIFI quality sound for music, neither stereo nor surround. These equipments were created focused on cinema, but not music. And this is the problem. Little by little, this is changing, but slowly, very slowly. And it is due to the growth of music in surround format.

@@josega7320 I hear you, definitely true back in the day, less and less now. My brother uses Revel Salon towers in his theater and I'm about to go to Perlistens, definitely no slouch for 2 channel listening.
And since my theater is fully treated with RT60 decay around 0.35, it's a fantastic environment for sound.

Ryan try limiting dirsc to just 500hz or below.

People speak bad about kscape and madvr because they do work but are not as advertised being the holygrail. I explain better, kscape has higher bit rate, do you hear or see it? No.
Madvr is life changing to the image, a friend has it with his jvc n7, on 8 ft wide screen image looks amazing, another friend purchased the same jvc projector without madvr and he is running 11ft screen, does it look bad? Basically because the image is bigger it looked better and no madvr, that is why it's not envy for sure, if it's about money it's understandable sinces justifying price for something that is so expensive, and watching results of projected images without using picture processing in between comes to a conclusion that customers pass when the difference in the result is marginal. My thought as always.

People don't use kscape.because it has a better bitrate than disc. They use it because it has a better bitrate than streaming. It's for people like me (although I can't afford it) who can't be bothered with discs. As for madvr. It's for theaters that have everything else and the disposable income. I was impressed with the motion interpolation and I'm sure the other features are nice to have but yea again I doubt I could ever justify the price. Tbh I can't see or hear any difference between apple TV and disc on my 120 inch screen so I don't even buy the disc argument. A 100 dollar device does me.

@@John-ok8tsI mean, you're wrong when you say that disc doesnt have a discernable difference in audio compared to streaming. You can simply look at metadat and see that in the raw numbers. If you want a true testament to this, I want you to stream blade runner 2049 from apple tv and pay attention to the opening eye scene. Now, do the same using a blu ray disc and tell me you genuinely can't tell a difference in audio quality...

@@muddasirsultan6256 I'm not saying disc doesn't have a higher bit rate. I'm saying I can't hear a difference. I don't own the disc version of BR 2049 but the eye scene sounds great on my system. If anything the bass is bordering on too much. On the discs that I have I couldn't tell. I've heard disc version sometimes have more bass but I'm not a bassaholic to begin with so I'm fine with them the way they are.
