    Probably my favorite tour and interview so far. Great conversation. Thank you for sharing your room with us. Personally Not a Harry Potter fan but you did an excellent job on the theme. Rooms like this and memorabilia really bring movies to life.
    This kind of room makes sense. Most people aren’t going to be able to dedicate a large space and pour $20,000+ into a home theater. Everyone has different budgets, but at some point the law of diminishing returns goes into effect. This room just about hits the sweet spot.

    According to THX the best viewing angle is achieved by using the ratio: 10” screen at 1 foot distance. If someone has 10 feet distance from the screen then screen size should be about 100”.
    For a 120” screen, the best viewing angle is achieved by sitting at about 12 feet.

    • @Youthman
      @Youthman  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      You are correct, those are THX recommendations. I can tell you for me personally, 100 inch is not at all immersive from 10 foot.
      I am 9’ from 150” in 2.35:1 and I absolutely love it.
      I had two guests over yesterday to demo my set up. They were absolutely blown away not only by the sound, but also by how immersive the experience was. Immediately after watching ready player one, he said he felt like he was in the race car.
      My setup is WAY beyond THX recommendations but not once have I had anyone move from the front to the second row because they felt the image was too big.

    • @iSleepDoc
      @iSleepDoc 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I agree with you because I myself noted the immersiveness at shorter distance but got tired of moving my eyes from one corner to other in order to capture the whole scene. On the other hand when I follow the thx guidelines the whole screen is in my field of vision and I can easily enjoy the whole 3D movie with out straining my eyes.

      @@Youthman No but I have seen many projectors including the one he has. I go by the mindset the projector has to work in a normal livingroom. I'm interested when I get a 4k laser with 5500lumens or more with a reasonable pricetag. My taste in movies is mostly so that multi channel soundsystems do not matter anyway. I'm a poor man who lives in an apartment building anyway, so high soundlevels a no no XD My system cost is like 420€ at the moment including a 92'' portable grandview screen, Optoma FHD laser projector and a Good Monitor audio stereo soundbar I won in a facebook lottery. Still enough to get you evicted. I'm the type who enjoys Lazy life with what I can get without working too much XDXD

    • @Youthman
      @Youthman  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      That makes more sense why you feel 2,600 lumens is a joke as you are only looking at lumen output. His projector as well as my NX7 are not designed for rooms with massive amounts of ambient light. There is not such thing as a budget projector that has massive light output, amazing blacks and excellent contrast. The more output you have, the poorer your black levels and contrast will be. You just have to decide what is most important to you

  • @michaelrobinson9643

    It's possible to create an attached duct on the Projector to take 100% of the outflow and vent it from the room. Look for 3D printed designs or do your own. It helps enable more noise reduction options and particularly if you also do this on the input, you maintain the temp requirements of the projector.
    This can be a nice pathway if you cannot place the projector outside the room or in a sealed hushbox with air circulation.

    hello..first off..GREAT room and great use of the space. I have a few questions regarding the screen. You keep saying that it is a 120" screen (which technically it is), however, I notice you have some velvet strips all around "masking it down/making it smaller" than what it is. How many inches did you mask off on top/bottom and the sides? What is the actual viewing size of 2:35.1 and 16x9 content? ( i am guessing you zoom in for 16x9 content which should be around 90-92 inches??) Still a immersive feeling seated at 9 feet away.

      How could I forget to record a 7.2.4 Dolby Atmos system on a mono lapel microphone to be compressed by TH-cam and listened to by most people from their mobile device. I should be ashamed of myself.

    Very nice job Scott. Big Harry Potter nerd. So is my daughter. She loves it. I love the use of di-poles in the rear. For the space it seems like the perfect choice. Michael another great video.

    Great video. The tour truly needed a room and homeowner as down to earth as this. It lets all those with doubt know that when there is a will, there is a way.

    Really impressive room! Alot of thought and detail. With all the little dim lights and color scheme I definitely feel like I'm watching a Harry Potter movie. Hopefully Scott will chime in to answer my question. He said he went from ben q 3550 to the epson. He said he didn't get an over the top wow factor in difference. The thing I would like to know which might be a stupid question but I'll ask anyway. Was there a big difference in black levels? Like does the $1500 justify the improved quality in the black levels? Hopefully you can answer this 4 me. Either way we'll done theater and also thank you youthman you are really doing a excellent job with these theater walkthroughs

      Not the one you want to answer the question ut i thozght my input might be worthwhile.
      I have the epson as the European model the 9400. This epson does everything extremly well BUT the Black levels. Its a LCD model so Black levels Surfer. It got great color and brkghtness. When you make a hushbox to quit it down and go on the brightest Level you really get incredible in picture contrast and a fantastic picture. But if sou Hunt the best Star wars Intro Black wizh bright stars then this is not the projector for you.
      Sadly a Comparable picture quality with great black costs like 3 Times as much aa the epson. I would think the epson will be the best bang for buck but really high quality beamer for a while. Probably until the predessesor to the ls12000 or the New jvc projector come out. So 2-3 years.

      The black levels are better, but not to the extent you would think. AT screens eat up some of your brightness, so the extra lumens from the Epson did help. Both are fully calibrated, so the picture quality is pretty close. The 3550 is a worthy competitor all the way around and I still highly recommend it to anyone on a budget.

      @@scottwooden9401 Thanks for the reply man! Really appreciate it. I have a similar size room to yours. In my opinion I think the one thing that is killing me is that it's such a small room that the light from projector is just bouncing around from the screen. Like the epson that I got now is to bright. My room is painted dark grey and black ceiling and acoustic panels all around. That's y I'm thinking on trying the benq because it's not as bright

    You should give a few demos of the rooms you feature..

      Last year I received a copyright strike for using an 8 second clip on one of my videos. Three strikes and TH-cam deletes my account. I’m not willing to risk losing my channel to provide audio or video demos.

      Fair call. What a world we live in when this sort of thing happens for a quick sound demo..

    • @Youthman
      @Youthman  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yeah it’s unfortunate. I was merely trying to show the image quality of an Ultra Short Throw projector using an 8sec 4K clip on TH-cam.
