    I just learned in 2021 how to make socks. I used Earthtones Girl No Fear Sock Class. It’s free on TH-cam. She shows 2 different methods, and 2 different heels. Hermione’s Everyday Socks were my first non vanilla pair of socks. So fun to knit! Can’t wait to see your finished half and half wrap.

    Lovely video. As an FYI, I have some Chiaogoo Twist shorties that come with two 2" needles, two 3" needles and 2 cables (5 & 6") . You can combine them into 9 inch to 12 inch lengths for small circumference knitting. I use size 0 for my socks.

      I"m learning so much, thank you!! Another viewer mentioned the same thing. I've never tried a size 0 with socks, but they must make a gorgeous fabric! May I ask how many stitches you cast on?

    Thanks for your delightful podcast. Another excellent source for knitting socks are several tutorials by the Crazy Sock Lady. She has separate tutorials for the various ways to knit vanilla socks, i.e., dpn's, 9" circulars, magic loop, etc. She is excellent.

    TH-cam recommended you to me. Def gonna stick around.
    Re the chiaogoo interchangeables, the comes in different needle-lenghts (three or four) so you should be able to get interchangeables with the same needlelenghts as your fixed

      Sock knitting is my first love. I admit I was quite intimated by lace but it was actually pretty fun! I vote you cast on another sock. 😉💕

    I too am learning (always a student) to knit socks! I listen to Kay the Crazy Sock Lady as well as Earth Tones Girl. Both have sock patterns (that are very well explained). Each uses a different heel technique (I’ve tried both and prefer the heel flap and gusset). My desire is to learn to knit a sweater. Do you have any suggestions? BTW…I love your podcast! Adding you to my subscriptions!

      @playfuldayyarns9230  ปีที่แล้ว

      I've heard of both of them several times I really need to check them out! I've only ever done the heel flap and gusset myself! Ohh a first sweater, that's SO fun! I'm still a beginner in the sweater department for sure...I think I've knit 3 now 🤔 The Shifty twice and I'm still working on The Weekender both by Drea Renee Knits. Her patterns felt very clear and easy enough to follow along as a newly to the language of knitting! But if I had to choose honestly the Shifty felt like a great beginner pattern! It really is just a basic sweater using just knits and slipped stitches and the it's the yarn that does all the work. 😉 I have been told that the Weekender was a good pattern for a first sweater but for me the collar and overall construction was/is a bit confusing for me to visualize... but that's just me! 😋💕
      Thank you SO much for your message and your support by being here with me! Happy knitting!!

    Thanks for sharing ;) Your half and half is coming along beautiful. Often "not the softest" yarns, turn out comfy cozy after a wash ... I hope it happens for that yarn. I loved your encouraging 'you can do it' regarding the socks ;) I've knit many things but no socks, as soon as I hear double points I shut down lol, magic loop doesn't really excite me either ... sounds silly but I still one day want to try a pair. Love all the little yarn balls ... holding a neutral along with all the yarns for a blanket sounds awesome. Enjoyed watching ;) Sunshine, a yarny friend from Ontario Canada,

      Thank you so much for your message and for being here! YES try the 9 inch circulars when you're ready. Double points scare me too.😉
      You're completely right about the yarns getting softer after blocking! I have sweater I knit two of with the same yarn (different colors) and I tried them both on the other (one blocked and one not blocked) and I was shocked at how much softer the blocked one was. Like an entirely different yarn!
      Thank. you again for being here with me!!

    This is how I learned to knit socks! exactly the same person and so far haven't been able to complete any other pattern since but mostly due to 1. needles and 2. needles. I need the right needles or a sock set. I learned to knit socks by watching SimplyInStiches tutorial playlist on Beginner Sock Knitting on 9-inch circular for the Favorite Vanilla socks pattern in sport weight so right now only have that size 3 circular ( in sock sizes) but did just learn to do the magic loop ( easy) and was working on a cute little Valentine sock pattern but my sides were so tight as it was colorwork and have to work on that now and I was worried about getting ladders so pulled pretty hard. SO there is a bit more to sock knitting then just k/p stitch but just start with a basic sock pattern people, not like me because I end up not finishing. But now that ive tried magic loop have to say my favorite way still is just the circulars so will have to invest in a circular sock set soon.

    • @playfuldayyarns9230
      @playfuldayyarns9230  ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes definitely invest in the 9" circulars, they are so great! And I applaud you for going straight to color work! I tried it once and mine were very tight as well. Need more practice for sure on that one! 😋

    Love your podcast and your beautiful advent yarn. I love the Bits and Bob's blanket by Kay Jones of the Bakery Bears. It is such a relaxing knit holding minis with a neutral. She also has a Jelly Roll pattern that I have not tried but looks great. Both patterns are on Ravelry. I am looking forward to more of your episodes! Love your soft pastel color palettes 💗

    I’ve just learnt to knit socks from the same video I could do the basic stitches but always felt intimidated by socks , I was knocked off my motorcycle in Oct last year and in bed for quite some time with my injuries and needed a mental challenge and distraction, so I learnt how to knit socks and have made 5 pairs so far and I’m obsessed, the designer Potter and Bloom has some great simple but pretty sock patterns I’m making her Sword socks and really enjoying the pattern , loved your podcast looking forward to more 😊

      Wow that's so great that you found knitting during such a stressful time! It really is the perfect medicine in so many ways. 💕 I've never heard of that designer so thank you for sharing them with me. I'm going to head off and browse right now! ☺️ P.s. Thank you for being here and sharing your sock knitting journey with me!

    You popped up on my feed, and it was lovely to meet you!! Especially as I am currently trying to learn how to knit socks :) So I will check out your suggested tutorial. Interested to hear about the chiagoo fixed 9" circulars: I am currently using dpns but am keen to try out different methods to see which one suits me better. Thanks, Nicky in UK

    Thank you very much for suggesting the video tutorial for socks! ❤ so far I’ve only finished a pair of socks and I’m truly not proud of them, mostly because I made lots of errors down the way picking up stitches for the heel 😅 also I’m not a good fan of magic loop… everything I could have done wrong I did 😢 I hope for the next one I would have the proper preparation 🤞🏼😋

    • @playfuldayyarns9230
      @playfuldayyarns9230  ปีที่แล้ว

      Awww, I'm so glad to hear and I hope the videos help! I also am not a fan of magic loop 🤪 definitely try the 9 inch circulars! 👌🏼 Also in terms of picking up for the heel stitches as long as you stay consistent it will look great! Sometimes I pick up the back loop and other times I pick up the front loop. 😝 Both work! You can do this, they are going to be great!!!

    Hello! I’m Bobbi of Knitters Kniche podcast. Your channel popped up as a suggestion and I’m so glad I watched. You should check out the Anthology Throw by Helen Stewart of Curious Handmade. I am currently knitting it. The pattern is written for 24, sock weight 20 gram minis. It is a throw that is a circle with simple lace throughout with a beautiful border. It is stunning and unique to any other blanket. I subscribed! ❤😊

      Hi Bobbi! Thank you so much for your kind message and I'm thrilled to have a fellow you tube podcaster here and I'm looking forward to watching YOU! ☺️🥳 I might be slightly addicted to watching knitting podcasts, so truly I'm thrilled. 😂 As far as the Anthology throw, OH MY! I've already cast on a blanket for my current mini stash but the is absolutely my number one "to be" cast on for Advent 2023! It's amazing!

    Welcome, Taralynn! You're a natural in front of the camera and very relaxed. Love your calming voice and encouraging way about learning how to knit socks. I have also learned to knit socks from Tina of Simply in Stitches. I prefer Magic Loop, however, but that's just my preference. Look forward to future episodes!

      She said she took the videos down from TH-cam that weren’t getting many views.
      I believe she mentioned it in one of her latest videos.
      However if you were in the middle of knitting the sock and needed the tutorial, she said she might be able to send a private link to the video.
      You can contact her on Instagram.
      Hope that helped. 😊

      Hi! Oh dear it's not working? I'll go check on it, thank you for reaching out! If you go to her you tube, then to "PLAYLIST" then scroll to the bottom and your should see "Hermoine's sock English knitting tutorial" I hope you're able to find it that way!
      I copied the link here, just highlight and paste it to your search browser and it should come up... just in case. ☺️
