      And that “beter than rolex” they both tell time, realy what grade of stupid one must be.

It is the only German watch I own which is in proximity to the A Lange, and I agree it is a stunner for the price.

    A beautiful watch with a fantastic movement. GO really are worth the money (unlike many!). Perhaps 1 or 2mm too large for my taste in dress watches and I prefer the Reserve to the Moonphase. Am I the only one who thinks it's better looking than a Lange 1? Yes, not gold (a bonus in my book), but the proportions of the date are better I think. Great review and the best macro out there! In my opinion, this is one of the best "value" watches you can find. Look at that level of finishing, moonphase, big date complication, hand engraving on the balance bridge, etc. This watch is ONLY $1700 more than an ordinary steel Datejust 36 here in Canada - the GO is $11,700 as shown in this video. This is going to be my next watch. I could easily consolidate my collection to this GO and my Sub 114060 and be perfectly content.

  • @matthewdavis8199
    @matthewdavis8199 4 ปีที่แล้ว

    Hey Bruce, the service cost is even lower than you indicated. It is slightly less expensive when you convert 730 euros to dollars and back out the 19% VAT. Nitpicking a few dollars is not my point, however. The value lies in that the full service you referenced DOES includes case and bracelet refurbishing. So for about $725 you get everything done that returns the watch to like new condition and specs. That reasonable cost is just an extension in my opinion of the overall value this fine timepiece (brand) offers. I've had my forest green since last Sunday and am loving it!

    • @jonathanlau6964
      @jonathanlau6964 4 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Hey brother... depends on what you want it for in my opinion. The thickness of this watch at 12.7mm vs 9.9mm of the JLC made it clear that if I wanted a dress watch - JLC was the way to go. If you don't want to wear it as a dress watch... do not do the JLC. It is too fine and delicate for an everyday watch or weekend or whatever other scenario you would look for. I had the exact same dilemma as you. I wanted a moonphase watch and was between those two... but I wanted it for dress purposes and went for the JLC. I have not regretted it for one second (though admittedly it is way more under the radar if you are looking for a watch to stand out). Oh... don't forget JLC's 8 year warranty now which is sweet... But I doubt I can get mine serviced for less than $1000.

  • @jonathanlau6964
    @jonathanlau6964 4 ปีที่แล้ว

    Killer watch! Almost bought the silver/white dial as a dress watch, but as you suggested, the "block" case with the thickness at 12.7 mm felt too thick and substantial to be a dress watch (despite the romantic appearance of the moonphase and clean appearance of the rest of the dial). I ended up with the JLC Ultrathin moon which is almost 3 mm thinner (more than 25% thinner), but definitely a completely different aesthetic. Must admit though... the servicing cost is a HUGE plus! That is an incredible deal. I had an old Hamilton Chrono with a 7750 which cost me $900 to have the date wheel adjusted (yes I must've changed it mid 2200 - 200h). Stunner of a watch, just don't know what the best situation to wear it is. No really an everyday watch and not really a dress watch. That was my problem with it.

Okay, the average price point of a G.O. is a fair amount below a comparable Lange AND both companies share a lot of their respective histories AND they have their HQs in the same town, but at the same time Glashütte Original has developed such a strong design language and identity of it's own, that it's hard to justify that stupid catch phrase in 2020.
