    Definitely need a part II for the landing gear! I've got a ship with the same looking landing gear and I have no clue where to even start on rigging it!

    11:20 the tip to end all tips! I did not know those annoying relationship lines could be turned off!!! That is a game changer for me. :) This was great. I needed to see this.

      For sure! At the end when one of the second wings’ empties was still parented to the first, it actually would’ve been helpful to see the relationship lines so that I’d no they’re wonky. But 99% of the time I just think they’re annoying and get in the way, especially when there’s a lot of them.

    I dug through this looking for one specific point. I think you're the only one that actually pointed out setting the source axis. Had no idea why I couldn't get the transform constraint to work at all, but you fixed that for me.

    Great work you explain everything so well perfect for beginners. Earned a sub. I would love to see a part two with doors and landing gear. Also when I downloaded some of the models from the link the UVs were messed up and I couldn't get the textures to line up. I also don't know what the "S" image texture stands for. I was trying to work with the arc-170 but the UVs were all messed up. How would you fix this? Again great work.

    • @kextnext
      @kextnext  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thank you so much! So the models are all REALLY not ready for blender. For 1 thing, I had to separate all the vertex groups into separate parts. But even besides that, the lambda shuttle had multiple UV maps on it. So if you change what UV map you’re viewing (in object data properties) it might work? There’s definitely a lot of kinks and such when working with them that you just have to fix by playing around with them. I do want to make a part 2, but it would be after a couple videos.
      P.S. the Arc-170’s one of my favorite Star Wars ships. They look so cool!

    Great video! This helped me so much! I was just wondering if you could either make a tutorial or if you know of any tutorials that show you how to fix the textures. Some of the models I imported work, and others are way off and I have no clue how to fix it.

    • @kextnext
      @kextnext  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      There might be multiple UV maps in the properties tab (I don’t remember what it’s called but the tab with the green triangle) in the UV map drop down, try deleting the one that doesn’t apply to the model.

    The arrow controller is neat, really, but if you wanted, would you have been able to just click/drag/move the spaceship wing itself? Or rather, is that specifically NOT possible in Blender? (See I'm a Solidworks person, which doesn't have a "move this to magically rotate that" function.)

    • @kextnext
      @kextnext  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      You could, but you would have to make sure all the origins are correct, and for the purposes of animation, it would be immensely more work to achieve pretty much the same effect. The purpose of rigging is to constrain how the computer understands how an object’s states can change relative to how the user can understand them. With a simple rig like this spaceship, the amount of benefit from rigging is less than if you were to rig a character. Without a rig in this case, your would have to manually go through and key frame every single little piece in just the right way with equal motion and try to get it to look right (almost like stop motion in the real world where you’d have to move anything you want to have motion). With a character, you probably would not even be able to efficiently animate them without a semi-suitable rig. So rigging is mostly just for animation. If you’re just creating static renders or models, then you can just move what you want to be where you want and call it a day.

    Blender Guru's videos have this trick where it auto-displays every single keypress at the lower-left corner. "Shift-R". "F10". You might consider doing that also, please. I appreciate this video very much but holy moly you're really ripping here and I'm all like "huh? what was that? how did he...? he pressed SOMETHING to do that..."

    And finally, please comment on whether there's even a point to using "bones" in a model that's nothing but rigid parts, like this one. If I'm never doing "bendy" things, then is there even a point to using bones at all?

    • @kextnext
      @kextnext  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Again, for the purposes of animation, “bones” are just another way of doing what we did here (maybe even easier to understand too). Bones also have more options for motion control. If you’re just doing rigid objects, whether you use this method or bones depends on what you need it to do and how you want it to move
